Betfred is a typical sportsbook that has expanded into casino, poker, bingo and slots. There is a lot packed in and a lot of navigation to work around so it can feel confusing. The site is designed for long lists of betting markets and odds. That design does not alter when you navigate into the games area. This makes it feels more crowded and intense than a dedicated casino or slot site and was not really to my taste. If you do lose your way at any time then you can just click the Games button in the top navigation to take yourself back to ‘home’.

In terms of performance, Betfred website was surprisingly poor. There were issues with pages loading slowly, sometimes taking up to 10 seconds. On a few occasions I clicked on the ‘Games’ link and a message came up saying, ‘No games available’. This is surprising for an operator of this size and something I haven’t seen before.

Putting those usability issues aside, when you do arrive on important pages like Promotions and FAQs all the required information was available and clear to read.

The registration at Betfred took a little over 2 minutes. The sign-up form has five steps in it, rather than the usual three, and you’ll need to enter your full name and address, email, mobile number and date of birth. Unusually, you are also required to enter a Security Question. That gives an added level of comfort if you are concerned about someone hacking your account. The form was then processed in seconds and registration was complete.

I deposited £10 with Mastercard to qualify for the welcome bonus and received 100 spins for the Blueprint Gaming slots. Like much of the experience at Betfred, the cashier can feel a little clunky. The games and casino are not fully integrated with the sportsbook and you need to transfer your cash balance to a ‘casino chip’ balance before you can use it. It’s a little awkward but if you become a regular player here then you soon get used to it.

Online Slots 6/10

The Betfred slots catalogue includes games from around 35 suppliers. The main contender here is Playtech, but there are also games from big names like NetEnt, Microgaming, Thunderkick, Yggdrasil, Blueprint Gaming, IGT, Barcrest, ELK Studios and Pragmatic Play.

In total I estimate there to be around 750 games available. This is well short of dedicated casinos like Casumo (well over 3,000) or a white label operator like Skill on Net (over 4,000 games on Play OJO) or White Hat Gaming (well over 2,500 games on Temple Nile).

Jackpot Slots

One of the more impressive parts the Betfred Games is the Progressive Jackpots selection with 250 listed in total. You can browse these by provider – Jackpot King (Blueprint Gaming), DWG, Mega Jackpots (IGT), Must Drop Jackpots (Red Tiger) and Mega Moolah (Microgaming). There were no Dream Drop Jackpots (Relax Gaming) or Mega Fortune Jackpots (NetEnt).

New Slots

There is a ‘New’ category in the game menu as well which displayed 19 games when we reviewed the site. This is not a huge amount and reflects the small scale of the catalogue as whole. It did feature some very recent releases including Rabbit Garden by Pragmatic Play and Dyn-a-Miners (IGT).

Megaways Slots

Betfred Games has its own Megaways slots section with 88 titles to choose from. This is a reasonable selection though you can find more at a White Hat Gaming site like Temple Nile (140+ Megaways slots). Highlights of the Megaways selection include Rainbow Riches Megaways, White Rabbit Megaways and Blood Suckers Megaways.

Game Menu, Search Functions and Game Window

The game menus is basic at Betfred Games. It lacks the sophistication you find at big casinos like Play OJO where you can search by paylines, variance, game suppliers and other interesting filters. Instead, like much of the Betfred site, it’s not so easy to find your way around.

The games themselves load up in a new window in front of the site which feels very old skool. Most sites have been embedding games since at least 2010!

Slots RTP at Betfred Games

If you are a regular slots players then you may know that not all casinos run slot games at the same RTP settings. Some providers offer the games with multiple settings and leave it to the casino operator to choose which to run the games with. Betfred Games are one of the few slot sites to publish a full list of their slots with the RTP settings on their site. You’ll see it under Quick Links in the main navigation.

As part of our review process we checked 10 slots with more than one setting to see which level Betfred has chosen. This is what we found:

Betfred is one of the few slot sites we have reviewed – Mr Q is the other – where Pragmatic Play and Nolimit City slots we checked were run at their optimum RTP levels. The other games we looked at run at the upper end of the available RTP settings. Overall, Betfred Games performs well for slots RTP.

Live Dealer 8/10

The live dealer experience at Betfred is supplied by Playtech. There are no Evolution Gaming or Pragmatic Play tables which is quite unusual.

But whilst it lacks the diversity of rivals, unlike many smaller slot sites and casinos, Betfred does benefit from having its own exclusive branded tables. These are found in the Betfred Lounge where there are three Blackjacks and two Roulettes as well as a Big Friday Quiz gameshow each Friday at 9pm.

The Betfred lounge is an interesting alternative for live dealer fans who want to try something different (live dealer studios usually pool their player base on shared tables at their partner casinos so wherever you play the experience feels the same). The stake range is also good with bets of up to £2,000 on any game.

Meanwhile the main Playtech lobby has 37 Blackjack tables with stakes ranging from £1 up to £10,000. There are 33 Roulettes including some unique formats like Mega Fire Blaze Roulette and Jet Set Racing Roulette. There are also Baccarats and Sicbo and a Gameshows tab featuring Spin and Win and Buffalo Blitz live slots.

Loyalty Promotions 8/10

For regulars, there are several weekly promotions that give you the chance to earn extra free spins. Most work on the simple basis that if you stake x you’ll get x free spins. Typically, stake £25 and get 5 free spins, stake £10 and get 10 free spins, or collect up to 200 spins over a week by earning 1 spin for every £10 staked.

These are good offers because the winnings are always paid out in cash though as free spins deals they are always restricted to the games the spins are eligible for.

Neverthless, Betfred appears to have a more active promotions calendar than rival smaller white label sites.

Cashier Options 7/10

The Betfred cashier will be sufficient for most slots players in the UK. You are covered for Mastercard and Visa, and eWallets Skrill, Neteller and Paypal. There is also the Paysafecard for the pre-paid option. However, there are no other services to use. So, you can’t deposit with Apple Pay, Google Pay or Trustly. What Betfred does offer is a low minimum deposit. The entry level for all deposits is £5. And there is no minimum withdrawal though you must contact the support team if your withdrawal is under £5.

Payout Speed 9/10

I made several withdrawals to test the payout times at Betfred games.

• £5 to Skrill on Monday at 14.44 – funds received Tuesday at 00.36 – 9 hours 15 minutes.
• £5 to Mastercard on Monday at 15.32 – funds received Tuesday at 00:00 – 8 hours 28 minutes.
• £10 to Paypal on Tuesday at 09.17 – funds received Tuesday at 12.03 – 2 hours 46 minutes.
• £20 to Mastercard on Wednesday at 16.59 – funds received Wednesday at 17.39 – 40 minutes.

In each instance withdrawals were processed in well under 12 hours and on one occasion in under 1 hour which makes this a very fast payout casino.

There is also a very comprehensive FAQs section on the site with lots of answers to common questions on account verification, deposits and withdrawals, promotions and bonuses.

Betfred offers a good range of contact options. However, response times have been slow in my experience, particularly during peak times. Early evening the queue is normally 10 or more people and it can take up to 30 minutes to speak to an agent. It is surprising considering the size of Betfred that they do not have more staff available.

KYC Process 9/10

At Betfred, initial age and address checks on registration are done behind the scenes using 3^rd parties like Experian. I was able to pass the verification process and deposit and play immediately this way.

If your age and address cannot be verified or you are required to provide further proof at a later date, Betfred have integrated with the 3^rd party Hooyu system which uses automated AI systems to verify ID documents uploaded online. This significantly speeds up the notorious KYC (Know Your Customer) checks that have been a constant source of frustration for casino players in recent years. My own experience with Hooyu has been mixed. Sometimes the system doesn’t recognise your documents, but you can only expect that to improve over time. It is still a good sign that Betfred have integrated this system for its customers and should reduce the number of complaints related to KYC checks and slow withdrawals.
