Theme and Design

African Legends takes the popular African theme and gives it a slightly different twist. Whilst in many slot games the focus is on cramming in as many safari animals as possible, here it’s about letting the environment sing. You’re sat on a plateau watching the vast African wilderness. Acacia trees perch precariously on rocks to either side of the reels as menacing clouds roll in. It’s beautifully illustrated and even more beautiful when the rain starts to fall in the free spins round. In fact, lightning occasionally flashes too. It’s a beautiful take on a much loved theme that would be hard to improve.

RTP and Variance

Let’s preface this by remembering that African Legends is a progressive jackpot slot, these slots almost always have a lower RTP than we’d like. African Legends is no different with an RTP of 94.92%. With that said, for a progressive slot, this really isn't bad. It’s actually a little better than most of the Dream Drop Jackpot network, which are generally considered to have pretty healthy RTPs.

African Legends combines its respectable RTP with medium volatility. Hopefully, this means you’ll scrape together a few decent sized wins on your way to that jackpot.

Maximum Win

The top non-progressive max win for this slot is 1,200x your stake. This is right at the lower end of the scale. For comparison, Wolf Blaze Megaways WowPot has a non-progressive jackpot of 18,720x.

Symbols and Paytable

The game has a 5 reel, 3 row setup with 243 paylines. Wins are made by landing 3 matching symbols (or more) on a payline, starting from the leftmost reel.

There are 9 pay symbols in total, as well as a wild. The lower-paying symbols are stone-carved card suits: diamonds, hearts, clubs, and spades. Landing 5 of the same low-paying symbol pays between 0.8x and 1.8x the bet. The premium symbols are African wildlife, including warthogs, hippos, rhinos, elephants, and lions. Landing 5 of the same premium symbol pays between 3.2x and 6x the bet.

The Wild Symbol is a golden statue and pays 10x the stake for a 5-of-a-kind combination. Wilds substitute for any other symbol and can appear stacked on the third reel.

Features and Gameplay

African Legends uses multipliers to great effect and has that all important progressive jackpot to play for. Let’s take a look at how each of the mechanics works individually.

Wild Blast 

At any point in the base game, the wild blast feature can trigger, turning up to 5 symbols into wilds. We saw this feature 4 times in 100 spins in testing, or once in every 25 spins.

Rolling Reels

Every time you make a win, the symbols involved in that win will disappear and more symbols will roll down into their place. If this makes a win, the same will happen, again and again until no new wins are made. 

Multiplier Trail

Every time the ‘reels roll’ you increase the multiplier trail. The first roll is a 2x multiplier and this continues up to a maximum of a 10x multiplier. This is applied to all wins.

Free Spins

If you roll the reels 4 or more times consecutively, then the free spins round begins with 12 free spins. If you achieve 5, 6, or 7 consecutive rolls then you start the round with 15, 18, and 20 free spins respectively. There’s also the multiplier to consider which sits at 5x for 4 rolls and goes right up to 10x for 7 rolls.  

Wow Progressive Jackpot

If you manage to make 8 consecutive rolls then you trigger the one of the Wow Progressive jackpots. The seed values for what you could win are shown below:
