- Can be a tough game due to high variance
Theme and Design
Retro slots fans will immediately love the graphic style that’s been chosen for Banana Town Dream Drop. Reminiscent of the original Super Mario or Sonic the Hedgehog games, this slot has a pared-back, ‘Gameboy’ style to it.
If you’ve already played the original Banana Town slot, then you’re not going to find anything distinctly different here in terms of graphics - it’s really the gameplay that sets this title apart.
RTP and Variance
This game has a lower than average RTP of 94%. While this might seem stingy at first, this low RTP reflects the fact that 12% of every bet goes directly into the progressive jackpot prize pool.
If you’re a jackpot chaser, this is great news. If you’d rather benefit from an increased RTP of 96.12% you can always try the original Banana Town slot, without the Dream Drops jackpot feature.
This slot is a highly volatile one, meaning you could play for some time without hitting a win. The upside is that when you do strike lucky, you can win big. Those on a tight budget might find the original version of this game is a little more wallet-friendly.
Maximum Win
There are five separate jackpots on the Dream Drop network. The biggest one of all is the Mega, seeded at €500,000 and with a minimum payout of €1,000,000. Those shooting for the jackpot will be more than happy with the sums, but what about the players who want to make smaller, steadier bets?
Banana Town Dream Drop Jackpot has a pretty decent non-progressive max win of 10,000x your stake. This is ahead of plenty of games with the same Dream Drop feature, but Neko Night Dream Drop Jackpot provides an even more impressive 20,000x max win, with that same progressive jackpot feature.
Symbols and Paytable
Banana Town Dream Drop uses a scatter pays system, which means that if you land at least 8 identical symbols anywhere on the grid, you’ll get a payout. There are 6 reels and 5 rows, so a lot of space to work with!
The low-value symbols are all bananas, blue, green, red, and yellow. They’re valued at 1x for 10 green or blue bananas up to 3x for 12 red or yellow bananas. The premium symbols are the monkeys themselves, of five different varieties. These are valued at 4x for 8 monkeys (green or blue background), up to 12x for 12 Boss Chimp monkeys (orange background).
There aren’t any wild symbols in this game, but the $ sign is a scatter symbol that can trigger free spins.
Features and Gameplay
For a game that seems so simple on the surface, Banana Town Dream Drops has a whole lot of interesting features. Let’s take a look at them one by one.
Multiplier Upgrade
Every time you make a win by matching a set of symbols, you receive a multiplier. Each of the symbols has its own multiplier which is applied to consecutive wins of the same symbol type. They can reach up to a maximum of 64x making a huge difference to your overall payouts.
Cascading Wins
The cascading wins mechanic lets you capitalize on your success. If you make a win then the winning symbols disappear from the screen and new ones start to fall from above. If you make a new win with these symbols then the same happens again. This continues for as long as you keep winning and doesn’t cost you any additional stakes/spins.
Free Spins
Look out for the $ sign as this acts as a scatter symbol. If you land three or more of these then you get to enjoy the free spins feature. You receive eight free spins for the first three scatters you land, increasing by one for every additional scatter symbol.
Dream Drops
The Dream Drops Bonus is a hugely popular feature that you’ll find in around 30 Relax Gaming slots. In this particular game, you’ll see 15 crates of bananas sat on fluffy white clouds. You get to choose one crate at a time to reveal the name of a jackpot. If you reveal the same crate three times, you win that jackpot. The maximum possible jackpot for this game is £3 million.
The jackpots are seeded as follows:
- Rapid Jackpot = £1
- Midi Jackpot = £5
- Maxi Jackpot = £100
- Major Jackpot = £25,000
- Mega Jackpot = £500,000 (with a minimum payout of £1,000,000)
Final Verdict
If you’re a fan of the original Banana Town slot then you’ll love this version. The Dream Drops feature gives you the possibility to shoot for big wins while enjoying the same great gameplay as the original.
The graphic style is fun and retro and the four distinct features add plenty of variety to gameplay. The max win is pretty high for a progressive jackpot game (particularly in the Dream Drops series). The volatility can lead to the occasional dry spells when it comes to wins, but overall this is a solid retro slot game, with plenty of fun and creative features.
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on Banana Town Dream Drop with real money at BacanaPlay. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 0.2
- Start balance: £3.408
- End balance: £16.88
- Win Rate: 15.5% (31 winning spins in 200)
- Biggest Win: 21.5x
- Free Spins Round: 1
That win rate shows how tight this game can be – just 15.5% of spins produced a win. Outside of triggering free spins or the Dream Drop its just about combinations of cascading wins and symbol multipliers and seeing how far that can take you. It’s exciting watching the multipliers go up and waiting to see if you get a win with a symbol with a high value, but it never really happened for me. Instead the biggest base game win I saw was just 8.5x!
The free spins round triggered once in 200 spins, producing a win of 21.5x. It’s better than the base game because your multipliers carry over and that creates much more opportunity to build them up. You can see one of the premiums was carrying an 8x by the end of the round. But it never got used up, which happens a lot. The lesson is … be very patient and set your balance to deal with the losing streaks. As for the Dream Drop – not a sign of it! Not surprising in just 200 spins.
Overall, the game production is very good and Banana Town was an entertaining play though typically tight.
