Theme and Design
A Fresh And Fun Style For Fishing-Themed Slots!
Big Bite displays the unmistakable artistic style of Push Gaming, with a clean, illustrative look and amusing anthropomorphic characters. But if you were looking for the ominous atmosphere of Razor Shark then you’ll be disappointed. This is a more light-hearted slot, inhabited by smiling, cigar-chugging Orcas, and pipe-smoking dogs and penguins in deer-hunter hats. It all takes place against the backdrop or an arctic seascape, which makes it feel a bit chilly. But overall the vibe is benevolent, and in-keeping with the low variance gameplay which will make it a big crowd pleaser in my opinion.
RTP and Variance
Big Bite has 5 RTP settings – 96.33%, 95.27%, 94.24%, 90.28% and 88.28%. The top setting of 96.33% is good, just above average, and 95.27% is acceptable, but it’s advisable not to play below these two. Certainly, avoid sites where the RTP setting is 90% of below. You can check by loading the game up and hitting the hamburger link then the ? and browsing til you see Return to Player.
If you are looking for a casino that consistently runs games at the optimum RTP then MrQ makes a good choice. Their games are always set to top RTP rates.
Unusually for a Push Gaming slot, Big Bite runs at low-medium variance, which means the wins should be evenly distributed, opening up this studio to a wider audience than you would normally expect.
Maximum Win
For a low-medium variance slot, Big Bite has a surprisingly big potential – 10,000x. It is very rare to see low variance slots with much more than a 1,000x top win so Push deserve credit for that.
Symbols and Paytable
In terms of reel configuration, Big Bite is your average slot - 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines. You’ll need to land 3 or more identical symbols across a payline from left to right, starting at the left-most reel, to trigger a win.
And just as the max win brought up a nice surprise, so too does the paytable with big values across the 10 symbols. There are 4 low payers, 3 mid payers and 3 premiums. The low payers are the standard card suits – clubs, spades, diamonds and hearts. The mid-level symbols are the boot, bottle and compass. And the premiums are the dog, walrus and penguin. The top value premiums weigh in at up to 200x for 5 on a payline.
There is also a Wild, represented by the boat. This substitutes for all pay symbols to complete paylines as well as paying out 200x where 5 drop onto a payline.
Features and Gameplay
Fish, Jackpots and Orcas
Throughout the game, as well as standard pay symbols you should be looking out for both Fish symbols and Jackpots Symbols which drop onto reels 2, 3 and 4 ONLY.
The fish symbols each display a random cash value from 1x to 1,000x. The Jackpot symbols are Mini (15x), Minor (75x), Major (350x), Mega (1,500x) and Grand (10,000x).
Like many fishing slots, in Big Bite the money and jackpot symbols are no good on their own. In this case they need an Orca to trigger the payout. These land on reel 1 and 5, and when they drop, they will collect the value of all fish and jackpots (except the Grand).
The Orcas are therefore your golden ticket, more powerful still because they may also drop with a multiplier of 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x attached. When they do, the multiplier is applied to the full value of the payout from fish and jackpot. And better still, you can land two at once and double up your prizes!
The 10,000x max is paid out only when an Orca lands on reels 1 or 5 at the same time as the Grand Jackpot symbol.
Free Spins With Expanded Grid and Progressive Gameplay
Make no mistake, the free spins round in Big Bite is superb, with gameplay worthy of the best high variance Push Gaming slots! As standard, you’ll need 3, 4 or 5 scatters to trigger and you’ll get 10 spins. The configuration is as follows:
- 3 Scatters – 10 spins with a 1x Orca multiplier
- 4 Scatters – 10 spins with a 3x Orca multiplier
- 5 Scatters – 10 spins with a 10x Orca multiplier
The new game grid is now 5x5 with 20 paylines instead of 10. And … it displays a meter to the right of the reel set. Orca symbols that land now power up that meter with 4 levels to hit. Each new level earns more spins and a greater Orca multiplier.
- Reach Level 1 – 5 free spins and 2x Orca multiplier
- Reach Level 2 – 5 free spins and a 3x Orca multiplier
- Reach Level 3 – 5 free spins and a 5x Orca multiplier
- Reach Level 4 – 5 free spins and a 10x Orca multiplier
Final Verdict
Big Bite is an exciting departure for Push Gaming whose speciality is high variance gameplay. What they’ve done here is clever, performing a careful balancing act to bring the volatility down whilst still maintaining an exciting win potential through a well-configured bonus round which will genuinely deliver thrills at the upper end of the progressive multiplier scale. Big Bite will also likely attract a new audience of casual players to Push, thanks to that fun design style which is softer than Razor, but more interesting than other fish series like Big Bass. It will be interesting to see if this is a one off or we see more like Big Bite in the future.
