I played 250 spins on Cats of Olympuss on Push Gaming’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.

The wins felt very streaky in this test session. The first 100 spins produced many more payouts than the next 150 which were poor in comparison. And surprisingly the free spins round triggered after just 18 spins. Don’t expect too many instant coin payouts because these rarely appeared. Instead, most wins were a combination of wilds or stacked wilds with pay symbols. The multiplier wild was a rarity too.

That said, overall, things chugged along at a nice pace with a reasonable win rate in the base game (19.6% in our test) before the best stuff happened when 3 scatters landed to start the bonus feature.

The free spins round triggered twice. The first time produced a 33.4x win with 2 of the 4 reel sets in play. How successful you are depends in part on how many wild stacks you have on the reels. I had just 1 on reel set 1 and 2 on reel set 2. By adding more and opening up more reels its easy to see how Cats of Olympuss could really go off.

Theme & Design

Cats of Olympuss mixes cutesy cats with an Ancient Greek theme. The action is set way up in the clouds, somewhere close to Mount Olympus where the gods lived we presume. The artwork is of a high standard, as we expect from Push Gaming. And there is a nice peaceful soundtrack to the game. Overall it’s giving off some nice friendly vibes. That might be at odds with the highly volatile game engine this studio usually produces.

There are 9 pay symbols in the table. Low value ones are the card suits valued at from 0.1x for 3 diamonds up to 1x for 5 hearts. Premiums are the fish, harp, brown cat, white cat and king cat. These are valued at from 0.4x for 3 fish up to 10x for 5 king cats. The king also pays out for just 2 on a win way (0.5x).

There is also a wild, represented by a crown with a W on it. This lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It has no pay value but it substitutes for all pay symbols to complete win ways.

The base game in Cats of Olympuss comes with stacked wilds with multipliers and instant prize coins. There is also a free spins round with added modifiers. Here is how it works:

Stacked Wilds With Multipliers 

Like standard wilds, stacked wilds substitute for all pay symbols. They may also come with a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 6x, 7x or 8x which is applied to any win they are a part of. And if they appear during free spins then they stay on the reel they appear on throughout the round.

Instant Prize Coins 

These can land on reels 1 and 5 only, carrying a multiplier value of 1x, 2x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x, 100x, 250x, 500x or 1000x. To trigger the payout you need to land at least 2 wilds on consecutive reels at the same time.

Free Spins Feature With Pick Me Upgrades

There are two types of scatters – the standard and the double scatter. These have the word bonus printed on them (twice for the double). Collectively you need to land 3 scatters on one spin to trigger the free spins round.

They only appear on reels 2, 3 and 4.

Now the game kicks into a new gear with up to 4 reel sets in play. How many are active depends on how many scatters you landed. 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters will see 1, 2, 3 or 4 reel sets in play from the start of the round.

The Final Verdict

Cats of Olympuss is another high quality, high variance game from the Push Gaming production line. The sound and visuals are nice, though they won’t appeal to all hardened slots players out there. Some might find them too cutesy. Anyway, despite that fluffy exterior this is still a game with a mean engine.
