Theme and Design
Dream Drop Diamonds is a high class aspiration slot in every way. It is set in the grounds of a luxurious Caribbean hideaway with pool, sun loungers, palm trees and speed boats in the backdrop and plenty of high-end products to browse on the reels. If you wondering how to spend that Mega Jackpot should it come your way then you don’t have to look much further than what is in front of you! Meanwhile, in the background a kind of Ibiza sunset ambient tune plays, reflecting the holidays vibes in the visuals.
Aspirational slots like this are pretty straight forward and it’s no surprise that a studio like Relax with all their talent have nailed it with Dream Drop Diamonds.
RTP and Variance
Dream Drop Diamonds has an RTP of 93.98%. This is just a little under average for a Dream Drop jackpot game, most of which sit at 94%. Progressive jackpots generally have lower RTP as a contribution from every bet is made towards the prize pool. In this case it is 12%.
Like all other Dream Drop games, Diamond is a highly volatile slot. These game are very much weighted towards small numbers of big payouts in the bonus rounds, so don't play if that is not your thing.
Maximum Win
Dream Drop Diamonds has a maximum non-progressive jackpot win of 10,000x which puts it on a par with most other slots in the Dream Drop series. There are a few with higher potential such as Neko Nights and Templar Tumble 2 (both at 20,000x). But 10,000x is about average.
The main event is the Dream Drop Jackpot feature which has five prizes, including the Mega Jackpot seeded at £500,000 and capped at £10,000,000.
Symbols and Paytable
Diamonds is a win ways slot where you need to land matching symbols on adjacent reels on a 5 reel and 5 row grid starting with the left most reel. The row the symbol is on is not relevant, only that it is on an adjacent reel. That gives you 3,125 win ways to play with.
What is noticeable when you browse through the game rules is that symbol values are low, even at the top end of the paytable. There are 8 basic pay symbols. The lowest four are the card suits, clubs, diamonds, hearts and spades. They pay out a maximum of 0.3x for 5 on a line. The premiums are the jet skis, cars, private jets and boats. Even these top out at 1.5x for 5 on a line.
HINT: These low values mean that you need to build Cascade sequences with lots of small wins in the base game to get any decent returns.
There is also a Wild but you won’t encounter this unless you hit the free spins round where it appears only after Diamond symbols have dropped onto the grid.
Features and Gameplay
Like Templar Tumble 2 Dream Drop this is a Cascading Wins (tumbles / avalanches) slot. That means after each winning spin, winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in to replace them. If more wins are triggered then the process repeats, and so on.
Prize Ladder Wins
The interesting part is that a progressive element has been built around the cascading wins, which means the longer the cascades sequence is, the bigger you can build your wins. This is where the Diamond Instant Win Prize Ladder to the left of the reels comes in.
The ladder has 30 rungs on it and each one can be filled by landing a Diamond symbol on the grid. Each new diamond is removed from the grid to fill one new rung, but once the sequence of cascades ends then the ladder re-sets.
The prize values on the ladder start at 5x for 5 rungs and 10x for 10 rungs but increase exponentially the further up the ladder you climb, until the top of 30 rungs pays out 1,000x.
The caveat here is that filling the ladder is very difficult. In our time playing this game we’ve never got passed rung 5, and that is the first prize stop. However, it is all based on luck, and if you get on a lucky streak then you can see how thrilling this part of the game could be. One of the best parts about Dream Drop Diamonds is how quickly things move along. There is little pause between Cascades so you move up the rungs quickly which adds to the excitement.
Free Spins With Added Wilds
You should also try to collect bonus symbols during each sequence.
Three of these unlocks 9 free spins with another spin added for every bonus symbol on top of the 3. Now Diamonds have even more power as they award an extra free spin and add 1x to the Diamond Ladder multiplier each time they land. And when they are removed from the grid to fill the rungs, Wilds take their place.
And just to improve your odds further, there is no re-set of the ladder between free spins. So, if you got to position 10 on the ladder and ran out of luck on your Cascades, you don’t lose that position, but start from there again on the next spin.
The Dream Drop Jackpots Feature
The main event is the Dream Drop feature, which always guarantees you a win from one of the five prizes. In our session we scooped the lowest value Rapid Jackpot once at £11. It’s not a big win but the excitement of playing for the Mega Jackpot is worth it.
The feature is triggered at random. You see a message saying the game is going to play then you get a single spin on the existing grid with only DD symbols and blank symbols appearing. If a DD symbol lands on EVERY reel, then the bonus Dream Drop Jackpot game is unlocked. If you don’t get DDs on every reel, then the feature ends and you return to the main game.
The Jackpot game takes place on a 5x5 grid again. This time each of the FIVE jackpots has its own row, from Rapid at the bottom to Mega at the top. With each spin, DD symbols and blank symbols fall onto the grid. At the end of a spin, all the blank blocks explode and DD symbols fall further down.
The Jackpot Feature ends when spins run out. At this point, the jackpot is awarded for the highest row filled with DD symbols. Remember, you are GUARNTEED to win a prize here, so at very least the Rapid row will be filled. Lucky punters may see ALL FIVE rows filled.
At time of writing (September 2022) Dream Drop Jackpots were seeded as follows:
- Rapid: £1
- Midi: £5
- Maxi: £100
- Major: £25,000
- Mega: £1,000,000 *
*The seed value for the Mega Jackpot started at £500,000. It increases by £500,000 after every second win. This will continue until it reaches a maximum of £10,000,000.
Final Verdict
Compared to other Dream Drop slots, Diamonds felt like an easier play despite its tough variance. It kicks out regular wins, though they are very small in size due to the low symbol values, and there is always the tease of that prize ladder, though for us it never really got going. But in summary, with its luxury lifestyle design and fun gameplay there is enough to keep you engaged and playing this game even when those big win moments are few and far between.
