Hyperburst is an online slot game from innovative game developer, Yggdrasil Gaming. It arrived at UK slot sites in October 2020 setting up a rumbling volcano that threatens to blow at any moment as a neat metaphor for the classic high variance slot game – you wait, you wait, you wait … and then ‘BAMM!’ out of nowhere comes that explosion of high energy reel action with consecutive payouts and cumulative features.

Yggdrasil are famous for their visuals and sounds. This is the studio that brought us the Vikings series and games like the recent Florageddon for example. So it’s no surprise that Hyperburst is a compelling prospect from the moment you load it up. The action is set on what looks like a Tropical volcanic island. The 5×4 reel set floats in front of the rising Volcano with cavernous crater and bubbling lava.

The features are not as many as in other Yggdrasil games but Colossal Reels, Win Multipliers and Re-Spins all combine at times to make you think an eruption is imminent. Sometimes it is, others it isn’t.

This is a sharp looking slot with a slow-burning soundtrack that rises in volume and intensity to reflect changes in the gameplay. The backdrop is epic and the reels themselves hold some intricately carved symbols that have a Polynesian style to them. Their values are modest but with multipliers and colossal reels they can soon deliver top payouts. Here are the highlights of the paytable.

  • The game takes place on a 5 reel and 4 row grid with 20 paylines in play at all times. There are no reel expansions.
  • Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols on a payline from left to right.
  • Low payers are the cards, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. Aces deliver a 2x payout for six on a line.
  • Premiums are the carved masks. These are blue, green, purple and red. They are valued at up to 8x for six on a payline.
  • There is also a Wild that subs in for all others to form wins and also pays out a whopping 100x for six on a line. Even hitting 5 of these can award a 20x stake prize, so it’s by far the best-paying symbol in the game. These Wilds can also appear as Colossal Symbols, which means you have even more chance of forming a winning combination.
  • There are no Scatter symbols in Hyper Burst because there are no ‘free spins’ as such. Instead you get Re-Spins which come after every win.

Hyper Re-spins on EVERY Spins Bring Up Colossal Reels

After ANY win in the game you will be granted a Re-Spins. Now, TWO of reels 2, 3, 4 and 5 are joined together. This makes a Colosssal Reel with 2×2 symbols on it. If you win again, the reel expands to 3 wide, and then 4 wide, known as a Giga Reel.

Hyper Mode – Eruptions With Multipliers!

The ultimate goal is to hit the Hyper Mode which happens when all FOUR middle reels are joined. The action continues, but this time, with each winning spin a newly-introduced win multiplier progresses. It starts at 2x and moves upwards through 3x, 5x, and finally a maximum Multiplier of 10x. The multiplier stops growing at this point but there is no limit to how many re-spins you can get. Just keep spinning and winning!

Hyper Burst is a powerful slot that is deceptively simple but has huge potential. Just be aware that despite have the POTENTIAL to deliver big win sequences this game can be a tough nut to crack. You can spend many spins waiting for something to happen. Having said that, you only need one lucky one to set the ball rolling. When that happens look to activate the maxed-out 4×4 Giga Reel along with some 10x Multipliers then you could actually get something close to that 12,800x top payout!
