What Our Reviewer Says …
A very simple game with humorous theme but does that one feature carry it?
What We Like
- Simple gameplay is very easy to follow
- Change to build big high paying clusters
- Multipliers of up to 100x added randomly
- Transforming symbols stay that way in free spins
What We Didn't Like
- Low RTP at some slot sites
- Not much variation in the gameplay
Theme and Design
There aren’t all that many other slot games out there with a carrot as the main character, in fact, we can’t think of any. So, there’s a point for originality on offer. The remainder of the fruit and veg theme is a slight twist on the classic fruit machine, with a cute farm in the background for added cottagecore points. The soundtrack complements the playful graphic style to create a fun slot machine, that doesn’t take itself too seriously.
RTP and Variance
With a default RTP of 96.3% you simply can’t complain. The medium volatility makes this a solid choice for players who would like a shot at the big wins, but don’t want to burn through their bankroll too quickly.
Tip: The RTP of this game can change, so it is worth checking that the casino you’re using is applying the default RTP. Other RTP rates are 94.51%, 92.28% and 88.28% and many UK slot sites use these. We recommend playing at MrQ from Lindar Media which is one of the few sites to consistently run slots at the optimum rates.
Maximum Win
A top payout of 10,000x your bet is the highest prize in King Carrot. This is pretty standard for Hacksaw Gaming and a very nice haul if you can manage it! If you’re looking for a similarly ‘farmy’ slot with a higher max win then Wild Yield by Relax Gaming offers 50,000x your bet, but much higher volatility.
Symbols and Paytable
King Carrot is played on a 7x7 grid and has a cluster pays mechanic. This means you simply need to land 5 or more matching symbols that need to connect to each other horizontally or vertically.
There are eight normal pay symbols, plus the super premium carrot pay symbol, a wild, a scatter, and two further king carrots. The low value symbols are the grape, pear, elderberry and strawberry, paying from 0.1x your bet for 5 symbols, up to 5x your bet for 14+ symbols. The premium symbols are the blueberry, lemon, apple, and watermelon, paying from 0.2x your bet for 5 matching symbols, up to 10x your bet for 11+ symbols. The most premium of all is the carrot, which can pay up to 500x your bet for 49+.
Features and Gameplay
Hacksaw Gaming managed to create a pretty clever feature with the addition of the King Carrot symbols, but that’s not all there is to this slot. Let’s take a look at all of the different mechanics at play.
King Carrot Symbol
King Carrot symbols can land at any time at all during the base game and the free spins round. When they do, a lower paying symbol is chosen randomly to be replaced by carrots.
If you land multiple King Carrot symbols at the same time, or on subsequent re-spins, then more than one lower paying symbol is replaced by carrots. Every time a King Carrot symbol lands on the reels you also get a re-spin.
Epic King Carrot Symbol
Epic King Carrot symbols can also appear at any time during the base game or free spins as long as there’s already a standard King Carrot symbol on the grid. Each Epic King Carrot symbol triggers a multiplier that will drop on one of the carrot symbols on the grid. The multipliers are assigned a random value of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 25x, 50x or 100x.
These multipliers affect winning combinations of carrot symbols only. They apply their multiplier to the total win value, but will also combine with any other Epic King Carrot multipliers too, adding their multipliers together before awarding the final amount.
Bird Attack Feature
At any point during the base game a formidable bird shadow might swoop across the reels, but don’t panic. This bird could actually bring good luck. As it swoops across it removes at least one row or column (up to the whole grid). The only symbols that are safe are the wild and scatter symbols. Once the bird has finished swooping, new symbols drop into place.
Carrot Carnage Free Spins
If you land three or more scatter symbols - the letters 'FS' - during the base game then the Carrot Carnage free spins round begins. You start off with 10 free spins. There is much more power in this feature because all of the symbols that are transformed by the King Carrot symbol during this round will remain as carrots for the whole round.
By turning as many symbols into carrots as possible, you inch ever closer to that juicy max win.
Final Verdict
Overall, King Carrot is a brilliant slot game for fans of the farming genre. It manages to sit right in the middle of the road in terms of volatility and offer a decent max win. While it won’t appeal to the mega jackpot chasers, it still offers a plenty big enough prize. The King Carrot and Epic King Carrot symbols add a whole extra layer to the game, making it possible to actually secure those high prizes.
If you like the cute cartoon style and enjoy an interesting free spins round with some unique gameplay then this vegetable-based adventure might be the quirky slot you’re looking for.

I played King Carrot at 20p stakes for 100 spins. The game is very simple once you get to know it. All the pay symbols have quite low values so you need to build clusters of carrots to score decent wins. The only way to do this is by landing the King Carrot to transform pay symbols into carrots and trigger the re-spin.
I landed 18 King Carrots in 100 spins and it felt like I needed more. When you do, it doesn’t always trigger a good payout. In fact, the only time I started seeing 20x or more wins was when 3 King Carrots landed, transforming 3 pay symbols into carrots. That gives you more chance of completing clusters of course. I got that far twice with a best payout of 26.3x.
The other helping hand you might get is via the Epic King Carrot which adds multipliers onto the grid, but I didn’t see that once in this session.
I stopped after 100 spins. To be honest, I like the idea of this game but in reality I found it quite slow. You need to have at least 3 King Carrots in play to build proper clusters and it was a long wait for that to happen. With not much else to entertain you, I left I there.
