Testing Notes: Here’s What Happened When We Played King of the Party
IMPORTANT: To give you an accurate assessment of the games we review our writers play 200 spins. Whilst this is a useful tool to help us review games and to give an example of what might happen when you play, keep in mind that 200 spins is only a very small sample and cannot be used to accurately predict what might happen over another 200 spins. The outcome of all slots play is always random.
Boom Or Bust? Our Session By The Numbers
I played 100 spins on King of the Party on Thunderkick’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 5,000
- End balance: 5,240.40
- Win Rate: 26% (26 winning spins in 100)
- Biggest Win: 250.4x
- Free Spins Round: 0
This was a short session just to see how King of the Party played over 100 spins. The win rate came in at 26% which isn’t bad at all though it felt very choppy. At one point I went at least 10 spins without a win, then dropped 5 on the spin. The overlay multipliers come up very regularly but of course they often don’t activate because no win is triggered. That can be frustrating. The highlight of the session was that big 250.4x payout that you can see in this screenshot. That was 13 of the top paying lion symbols and a 6x multiplier! I didn’t get a sniff of the free spins round but that isn’t unusual over such a short number of spins.
What We Liked
- Overlay multipliers can build quickly to boost wins
- Fun theme with cool dance soundtrack and animations
- Wilds cause more avalanches in the free spins round
- Extend the free spins round by landing more scatters
What We Didn't like
- Max RTP is 94.32%
- 5,000x max win is low

What Our Reviewer Says ...
"Simple gameplay but super production make this a fun slot to try if you like your dance music and want to get in the mood for a summer rave!"
Overall Score: 6.8
Theme & Design
Our Score 7
An Animal Rave With Techno Soundtrack!
The setting for King of the Party is a dance festival, but this being a cartoon one, the party-goers and DJs are all animals including hyenas, lions and snakes. A huge stage sits behind the game grid, with neon lights, strobes and a relentless techno, electro beat bringing the atmosphere. In front of the stage is a crowd of dancers, bobbing up and down to the music. It’s a nicely produced game as you would expect from Thunderkick and will suit anyone getting ready to hit the festival scene this summer and in need of a warm up.
RTP and Variance
Our Score 7
What is RTP?
RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next. Read more here. What is Variance?
Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.King of the Party has a fixed RTP rate of 94.32%. That is lower than what most people consider to be the average RTP for a slot game, which is 96%. However, keep in mind that this rate is fixed. Many slot providers these days create games with more than one RTP rate and leave it to the site operator to decide which setting to run the game on. That means you could be playing at 90% or lower sometimes.
This is also one of Thunderkick’s high variance games so it will be volatile. This studio has been known to create some very volatile games, like the recent Xterminate. So beware, it can burn your balance fast!
Maximum Win
Our Score 6
What Is Maximum Win?
Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.With that in mind the maximum win value of 5,000x feels a bit low. Other high variance slots from Thunderkick have much higher potential like Esqueleto Explosivo 2 (50,000x) or Xterminate (25,000x). If you want to find games with big potential then check out our list of the highest max win slots.
Symbols and Paytable
Our Score 7
This is a scatter pays slot and it plays on a 6 reel, 5 row grid. Scatter pays means wins are triggered when 8 or more identical symbols land ANYWHERE on the grid, regardless of their reel or row position.
There are 10 pay symbols to score wins with. They are the four card suits – hearts, diamonds, spades and clubs – and the star, valued at from 0.2x for 8 up to 1x for 12 or more, and the five rock star characters – the snake, the cat, the pig, the hyena and the lion, valued at from 0.5x for 8 snakes up to 50x for 12 or more lions.
There is also a Wild, represented by a big ‘W’, that can substitute for any pay symbol to complete a win.
Features and Gameplay
Our Score 7
Avalanche Wins
First of all, like many Scatter Pays slots, this is an avalanche wins game. That means, after any win, winning symbols are removed from the grid and new ones drop in to replace them. If this creates another win, then the process repeats. And so on, until no more wins are created.
Overlay Multipliers
At any point in the game, a pay symbol can appear with a random overlay multiplier. If an overlay multiplier appears over a winning symbol then it is collected at the bottom of the grid with others that overlay winning symbols. They are totalled up before being applied to the win value before the final payout is calculated.
Free Spins Bonus Game
There is also a Bonus Game in King of the Party, triggered by landing 3 or more Bonus Scatter symbols, represented by the gold disc as follows:
- 3 bonus scatters gets you 10 free spins
- 4 bonus scatters gets you 15 free spins
- 5 bonus scatters gets you 20 free spins
- 6 bonus scatters gets you 25 free spins
When the bonus round starts, if you had a multiplier active on the triggering spin then that is carried over into the feature.
And now, if you have Wilds on the grid that aren’t part of a winning combination, then they explode, as do any pay symbols on the same row and reel, triggering another avalanche and the chance to build a new win. And, if this removes an overlay multiplier, it’s value is added to the total under the reels too.
And finally … by landing more bonus scatters you can extend the round: 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 scatters gets you 3, 5, 7, 9 or 11 more spins.
The Final Verdict
King of the Party might not have the most exciting line up of features – it’s only about building a nice multiplier value from the overlays – it’s still carried along nicely by the production and the relatively good win rate. When you have payouts dropping on around 1 in 4 spins and a relentlessly upbeat party going on in front of you then you can’t help but enjoy the game. And if you like dance music-themed games like Feel The Beat from Hacksaw or DJ Cat from Push Gaming, then this could be a good choice for you.
Useful Tips When Playing King of the Party
Remember, online slots are games of chance, there is NO strategy that can improve your odds of winning. However, reading our review and following these tips will help you get the most out of your time playing this slot game.
1. Watch Out For The Multipliers
Keep your eyes on those overlay multipliers and the accumulator at the bottom of the grid. That number will be applied to the total win from your spin and avalanches. And it can grow fast!
2. Play With A Low Stake
We always advise to exercise good bankroll management when playing high variance slots like this one. It can burn your cash fast, so set a low stake relative to your balance whilst you wait for the big moments to drop.
3. Look For Gold Discs
The gold discs are the bonus scatters needed to unlock the free spins round. You need 3 or more to land on one spin, ANYWHERE on the grid, to trigger the feature!
4. Play At Our Recommended Slot Sites
We have chosen the sites on this page because they score well in our reviews and they are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. That makes them fair, safe and secure. Never play at unlicensed sites.
