Midas Golden Touch 2
By Thunderkick
Midas Golden Touch 2 is the sequel to an online slot from Thunderkick based on the story of the King whose touch turned everything to gold. The gameplay is simple with 15 paylines to win on, helped by wild multipliers in the base game which increase in value when more appear on a line. The free spins round includes sticky re-spins and epic wilds multipliers that are GUARANTEED to land on every spin. Collecting scatters in a meter adds more spins and doubles the multiplier value each time. The max win is 15,000x and spins start at 10p.

Theme and Design
Gleaming Gold Everywhere In This Slot Based on the Popular Myth of Midas
Midas slots are a popular genre for slots developers, for obvious reasons. The turning things to gold narrative fits well with hunting down big wins, and the story can be used to create some sparkling slot full of emblems of wealth, as well as the chance to bring in the character of Midas himself. Which is exactly what Thunderkick have done here, with the reel set dropped into a marble-floored temple, with vast pillars either side and giant flags hanging from the ceiling. The frame of the reels is gleaming with gold too, as are the crown, treasure chest and other pay symbols. If you like a good mythological slot and plenty of bling, this is for you.

RTP and Variance
Midas Golden Touch 2 has a fixed RTP of 94.27%. That means it will be that value wherever you play. Whilst this is under the average (around 96%) for online slots, keep in mind that many studios now produce games with more than one RTP setting and you can find yourself playing at 94% or less at many UK slot sites. So, in fact, 94.27% isn’t as bad as it sounds.
Like the original Midas Golden Touch, this sequel has a high variance rating. Thunderkick know how to build volatile slots – check out their Xterminate slot from March 2024 for proof – so don’t expect an easy ride. There is lots of potential here, but you can burn your balance at speed as well. Beware!
Maximum Win
The maximum payout from Midas Golden Touch 2 is 15,000x. That makes it higher than the 10,100x from the first version, and a serious concern. For more high max win action from Thunderkick try Gods of Rock with a 20,000x max payout.
Symbols and Paytable
The action in this game plays out on a 5 reel and 3 row grid with 15 active paylines to score wins on. You’ll need to land 3 or more identical symbols on a line from left to right, starting at the left most reel.

There are 10 pay symbols. The low values are the six cards – 9, 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace. These are valued at from 1x for 3 9s up to 7.5x for 5 Aces. The premium symbols are the chest of treasure, cup of wine, crown, and Midas. These are valued at from 3x for 3 treasure chests up to 75x for 5 Midas.
There is also a Wild, represented by Midas’s hands. This will substitute for any pay symbol to complete a payline, has multiplier powers which are described in the next part, AND pays out at 10x, 20x or 75x for 3, 4 or 5 on a line.
Features and Gameplay
Wild Multipliers
So, wilds are important because they substitute for any pay symbol to complete a win line. They also carry a multiplier value that increases when more wilds are included in a line, as follows:
- 1 wild in a line: 2x multiplier applied to the win
- 2 wilds in a line: 4x multiplier applied to the win
- 3 wilds in a line: 8x multiplier applied to the win
- 4 wilds in a line: 16x multiplier applied to the win
- 5 wilds in a line: 32x multiplier applied to the win
Gift of Midas
At any time during the base game (but not the bonus round) then the Gift of Midas may trigger. When this happens, between 1 and 9 wild symbols, OR 1 and 3 scatter symbols, are added to the reels. This can trigger more wins OR help trigger the free spins round.
Free Spins Round With Sticky Re-Spins
The main event is the free spins bonus round. You need at least THREE scatters, which look like temples emanating a golden light, to drop at once. The more scatters you land, the more spins you get as follows:
- 3 scatters: 8 free spins
- 4 scatters: 10 free spins
- 5 scatters: 12 free spins
During free spins, after any win, winning symbols are locked and a re-spin ensues. This repeats until no more wins occur.
And … you get the benefit of an Epic Wild at the start of each free spin. This behaves as any standard wild, but starts with a 2x multiplier. Now, you should also watch the scatter meter to the side of the reels. Every THIRD scatter that is collected earns you 2 more spins and doubles the value of the wild multiplier, up to a maximum of 32x.
Final Verdict
Thunderkick have produced another slick high variance slot with simple features that can produce some big moments, though some frustrating sessions too. The gameplay is less fun than in earlier Thunderkick games like Pink Elephants or Flame Busters, but for those who prefer simple features and payouts based on straightforward escalating multipliers, where the wait might be long but when they arrive, the wins are spectacular, this is an excellent choice. Golden Touch 2 is also a little more glitzy than the original, and boasts a significantly better potential, making it a worthwhile follow-up.
Testing Notes
I played 500 spins on Midas Golden Touch 2 on Thunderkick’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: £1
- Start balance: £5,000
- End balance: £4,792.50
- Win Rate: 16.6% (83 winning spins in 500)
- Biggest Win: 44x
- Free Spins Round: 1
Thunderkick can produce some very volatile games and this feels like it’s own of those. The win rate was low – just 16.6%, or less than 1 in 5 spins – and it took no less than 441 spins (yes, 441) to trigger the free spins round. Along the way the biggest win I clocked was just a 44x. That’s when 2 wilds were involved in a line, bringing the multiplier up to 4x. Apart from that, I didn’t see much of note in the base game other than lots and lots of near misses.

During free spins I managed to trigger the next level-up by collecting 3 scatters, which pushed the wild multiplier on each spin up to 4x, as well as giving me an extra 2 spins. The end result was a 40x win - unspectacular after waiting 441 spins. But that’s the way these games role. If you play, be ready for that and set your stake accordingly.
