About This Slot
Rock n Roll and slots are a match made in heaven, from NetEnt’s glorious rock series featuring legends like Hendrix and Ozzy Osbourne, to Play n Go’s more recent Kiss release and Alice Cooper and the Tome of Madness. In Gods or Rock, Swedish slots specialists Thunderkick have created their own typically off-beat take on this popular genre, replacing the usual iconic rock-star headliners with mythological creatures and gods, including Medusa, Anubis and Thor. This is a raucous slot with rock an epic stage setting, a screaming audience waving crosses, a stadium with dragon decorations and a night sky glittering with stars. It makes you feel like something spectacular is about to happen here.
The atmosphere is full of energy whilst 6 towering reels take centre stage, each 5 rows high and adorned with a range of rock-themed symbols. In order to trigger a payout, players need to match symbols adjacently in the same row or diagonally in rows above or below each other. There are some cool features to enjoy, including some epic multipliers, and the free spins round comes on like the climax of any great rock gig, with a stunning light show and frenetic noise!
It’s available now at most slot sites in the UK, but keep reading our review to find out how to crank up the noise for yourself first!
RTP, Variance and Top Payout
The RTP of this game is 96.05%, which is about average for an online slot, whilst the high volatility makes this a risky play with big ups and downs in payouts. Whilst not on the level of a No Limit City or Big Time Gaming, Thunderkick have produced some pretty dangerous high-risk games in their time so beware of the volatility and set your stall out for some frustrating sessions before hitting a decent combination of free spins and multipliers.
Fortunately, with a minimum bet of just 10p, the game is still playable for those with a slightly more cautious approach to slots play. The maximum payout of 20,000x stake is achievable in the bonus round but keep in mind that wins like that are extremely rare, and in reality anything over 1,000x is a good result.
Symbols and Graphics
The symbols in Gods of Rock include the rockers on stage: Medusa, Anubis, Lucifer, Athena and Thor. These characters can award from 1.4x to 5x stake for hitting 6 of a kind on the reels. The lower payouts come from the high cards represented by the 9 through to Ace.
You’ll also find 2 Wild symbols – the regular Wild and the Charged Wild. Both these Wilds can substitute for the other symbols in the game, while the Charged Wild can also trigger the Reel Multiplier to boost your potential rewards further.

Gameplay and Features
In true high variance style the best action in Gods or Rock comes in the free spins round where progressive multipliers are unleashed without any re-set between spins and the whole event can re-trigger by filling the bonus meter.
You might know this as Cascading Wins. After any winning spin, winning icons are removed from the reels and new ones drop in to replace them. More wins may occur and the process repeats until no more winlines are formed.
Reel Multipliers and Charged Wilds
Alongside the standard Wild in Gods of Rock is the Charged Wild which has explosive qualities!
Landing the Charged Wild will increase the Reel Multiplier on its corresponding reel by 1x. The multiplier can keep increasing up to a maximum of an 11x. If you hit more than one Charged Wild, the Multipliers are multiplied together. This means a 2x, 2x and 2x would create a total Multiplier of 8x. All multiplier re-set between spins until you hit the bonus round.
After the Charged Wild has boosted the Reel Multiplier, it explodes to destroy all symbols surrounding it, causing a new Cascade of symbols, then drops down its reel to become a regular Wild. The number of symbols removed by the explosion is counted on the Meter which is displayed to the side of the reels. Now, if 30 symbols are removed, the Wild Encore Feature is triggered.
Wild Encore Feature
The Wild Encore Feature is activated when 30 symbols are removed by the Charged Wild. When this happens, 1 to 3 new Charged Wilds are added to the reels at the end of the latest series of drops. These new Charged Wilds destroy more symbols, launch a new Cascade and charge up the Bonus Meter further.
Then … if 55 symbols are destroyed, the Free Spins round will be activated.
Gods of Rock Free Spins
When the Wild Encore Feature causes 55 symbols to be removed by the Charged Wild, you’ll trigger 8 Free Spins, a round that includes any Multipliers won during the main game. During the free spins, if the Bonus Meter is filled it will then reset and an extra 3 Free Spins to your total.
Gods of Rock is an imaginative slot that combines a weird mix of mythology and ancient gods with a classic rock concert setting. In their usual style, Thunderkick have taken a well-trodden path and sprinkled their own magic dust over it to create something no one else could have thought of! Remember how everyone else’s Raging Rhino games became Pink Elephants in their hands? Well it’s something like that!
And as far as features go, the action is pretty impressive too. In particular it seems that Thunderkick have been taking some inspiration from the mighty No Limit City, utilising an exploding Charged Wild in the same way that xBombs cause mayhem on the reels in slots like Evil Goblins xBomb. The best part though is the Reel Multipliers, which can combine in a massive way when two or more are active and potentially result in some spectacular rewards, especially at higher betting levels and in the free spins round. This is where an epic sequence of wins is going to come for some lucky punters as multipliers no longer re-set between the spins.
Meanwhile, for maths students, whilst the RTP is good, remember that this is a massively volatile game, and those with smaller balances to play with should be cautious to risk going all out to win the 20,000x stake top prize. The Rock Gods can burn you big time!
In summary this is a great game for Thunderkick and rock music slots fans, and the quirky theme and devastating features make it a high end addition to this studio’s catalogue, as long as you’re prepared for that high risk game engine.
