About This Slot

Vikings Go Berzerk is a powerful slot with a dramatic setting and some strong features. In the opening sequence you’ll find a Nordic warship in the middle of an angry sea with lightning flashing overhead. This moody visage is amplified further by the awesome warriors on the reels and the large reel set with 4 rows of symbols. This is typical of Yggdrasil who have built a reputation for creating games with original themes and high production values.

This is a sequel to the original Vikings Go Wild and this time the madness has been ramped up to Berzerk level. For those who like a bit of background, Berzerkers were a – possibly mythical – particular type of Norse warrior, more fearsome even than the standard Vikings, who would fight to the death in a trance-like state. Those with a taste for Thunderkick slots might remember a game called Bork the Bezerker with a mad-man hero fronting it.

Vikings Go Bezerk has a similar look to the … Wild original, with a 5 reel by 4 row reel set and plenty of wilds in action, whilst the medium volatility level might come as a relief to players expecting maximum volatility gameplay to go along with the crazy promise of the title. Those who loved the original will certainly get along well with this slot, avaiable right now at any new slot site in our list.

RTP, Variance and Top Payout

The RTP of this game is 96.1%, which is totally average for an online slot, while the medium volatility level makes for a balanced experience with a good quantity of payouts compared with bets and a more even distribution of payouts than the original. The 25p minimum bet is slightly higher than most other slots, so it’s not that cheap to have a spin. Vikings Go Bezerk also comes with a max payout of 4,000x stake, which is achievable if you manage to land the Golden Chest during Free Spins and unlock the biggest Multipliers.

Other notable stats include a hit frequency of 20.9%, whichi means roughly 1 in 5 spins will trigger a win, and 1 in 128 for the free spins round. In short, you’re going to need some balance to work with before you can unlock the bonus round and potentially higher rewards.

Symbols and Graphics

Win in Vikings Go Bezerk are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols on a payline on the reels from left to right. The symbols in Vikings Go Berzerk include the 4 fearsome Nordic warriors, who can award from 6x to 10x stake for 5 of a kind. There are also Wild symbols, which can stand in for the other symbols to create more potential wins. The treasure chests are the Scatters, which can appear on reels 4 and 5 and activate bonus features. There are also some gold, silver, bronze and pewter coins, which work like high cards in other slots to award the lower payouts.

Gameplay and Features

The base game here is pretty standard stuff with just the two Treasure Chest features giving your wins a boost, but it’s really the free spins round where the game opens up and an interesting ‘meter’ feature is added to the gameplay.

Treasure Chests

There are 2 treasure chests that can award special features in both the base game and the bonus round. The regular treasure chest appears on reel 4 and the golden treasure chest appears on reel 5. During the main game, the regular chest will award 2x to 40x stake or 7 to 21 Free Spins. The golden chest can award 10x to 400x stake, 7 to 21 Free Spins, Ragnarok Free Spins or a Rage Boost.

During the Free Spins round, regular chests can award 2x to 40x stake, 2 to 4 additional Free Spins, a Sticky Wild reel or 2 additional Sticky Wilds. Golden chests can award 10x to 400x stake, 2 to 4 extra Free Spins, a Sticky Wild reel or 2 extra Free Spins.

Free Spins

Landing 3 or more Scatters will trigger the Free Spins round with 7, 14 or 21 available, depending on how many Scatters triggered the round. Before you Free Spins play out, you can spin a Bonus Wheel to decide your Modifier:

  • Wild Reel – one reel randomly turns entirely Wild
  • Starting Wild – 1 Sticky Wild appears on the reels
  • Free Spins – 1, 2 or 3 extra Free Spins are awarded
  • Ragnarok Free Spins – All Viking symbols go Bezerk
  • Extra Treasure Chests – 5 extra treasure chests are added to the reels

During the Free Spins round, any Viking character that appears will battle against the Siren. If the Viking wins, it will turn into a Sticky Wild.

Rage Meter

At the beginning of the game, one of the Vikings has their Rage Meter half filled. When they land on the reels, their Meter is charged up until it is filled and 7 Free Spins are triggered. The respective Viking also goes Berzerk for the duration of the round. A ‘bezerk’ Viking will ALWAYS win its battle against a Siren, therefore guaranteeing Sticky Wilds during the free spins triggered off the Rage Meter.

Our Verdict

Vikings Go Berzerk is an exciting sequel to Vikings Go Wild with bolder graphics, stronger features and a harder edge. The Free Spins trigger fairly regularly, while the Ragnarok Free Spins are especially effective at bringing home the Sticky Wilds. In particular we love the Rage Meter feature which reminds us a little of the meters in Reactoonz and more recently, that in Thunderkick’s Gods of Rock slot.

In terms of maths, the medium volatility here is a pleasant surprise, making this more playable for those who are put off by high risk slots action, although the 25p minimum bet isn’t that pocket-friendly and needs to be taken into account. The 4,000x stake jackpot is decent too, though not brilliant, and you’ll be looking for Free Spins with plenty of treasure chests to push close to this bounty.
