I wasn’t expecting Kiss Reels of Rock to be as tight as it was. There was no sign of the free spins round at all in 200 spins. The Lock and Load showed up most – 11 times in all. Whilst the Drive Me Wild bonus appeared just 5 times. Neither of these triggered my biggest win which was a 32x from a standard win ways win of 4 premiums and a wild. Despite the features and the drama on stage, without the free spins Kiss Reels of Rock didn’t hold my attention that well. But on another day, it could have been different.

Epic Stage Set, Pyrotechnics and Light Show

Without being a fan of Kiss the band you can still appreciate the crowd-pleasing energy of their music and Play n Go have done a great job of bringing that to the reels. Like at a real gig, the stadium-wide stage is flanked by a huge metal scaffold with massive speaker stacks. As you spin, lights of all colors scan the audience and huge jets of flames regularly fire up into the air.

I felt that during the base game it was like waiting for the band to arrive on stage. There is no music, only the sound of rattling metal as the reels spin then jolt into place. However, its far from boring, with each character symbol showing a band member 2 rows high leering down from the reels, and when either of the two features trigger – Lock and Load and You Drive Me Wild – a band member struts out in front of the reels to thrash a guitar or breathe fire. Then, things kick on in a big way if you do trigger the bonus: the game comes to life with the soundtrack of the band and its worth sticking around for.

Up To 4,096 Win Ways and 12x Payouts For Top Premiums

My guess is they were trying to copy a guitar shape when they built this reel set. There are 6 in total with a symmetrical 2-3-4-4-3-2 row configuration. Now, this is also a Win Ways slot which means there aren’t standard paylines, but rather wins are triggered by landing identical symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, regardless of their row.

This creates a nice 576 win ways per spin.

But what’s exciting is that when the free spins round drops, those reels extend to a full 6×4 with 4,096 win ways in play, very much a classic online slot configuration.

The paytable shows some good value throughout, especially when you hit the premiums which are the 4 band members. They are valued at between 1x for 3 of the drummer up to 12x for 6 of the star man. Low payers are the cards 9 through to Ace. They bring up 0.2x for 3 9s up to 4x for 6 Aces.

The Final Verdict

Kiss: Reels of Rock stirs up mixed feelings. It is certainly a great looking game and Play n Go have done a fabulous job of creating the kind of live mayhem the band are known for on and around the reel set. Top marks there. And we have to acknowledge that huge top payout which is what will draw most players in. But on the other hand, don’t be mistaken because the developer has not made a friendly game. Instead, this slot feels like it will blow up only on rare occasions and to service that a lot has been kept back for those big events when Encore Free Spins triggers. The obvious flip side is that there will be many frustrated players who don’t get to see the bonus round at all or give up trying. And you will have to swallow that down if you want to play what seems to me to be a super-volatile game. It’s your choice. But to be fair, Kiss have always been a band that likes the extremes of high drama, so what else could Play n Go do?
