How We Review Slot Games

We test and rate all slot games across 5 criteria, assigning a score out of 10 for each and an overall score that is an average of the 5. To build an accurate assessment of each game we gather information from the supplier and play in real play or demo mode. Find out more.

Money Sleigh is a Christmas-themed slot from Relax Gaming based on the Money Cart 3 slot. There is no base game, only a Hold and Win round triggered by landing 3 bonus symbols on a 5×4 grid. If you trigger the round you get 3 re-spins which re-set each time you land a special symbol. As well as snow globes valued from 0.1x up to 1x, there are 13 special symbols that have special powers like gathering visible values, re-distributing them and reviving other special symbols.

This is a highly volatile slot with a 10,000x max win. Spins start at 10p.

Testing Notes: Here’s What Happened When We Played Money Sleigh

IMPORTANT: To give you an accurate assessment of the games we review our writers play 200 spins. Whilst this is a useful tool to help us review games and to give an example of what might happen when you play, keep in mind that 200 spins is only a very small sample and cannot be used to accurately predict what might happen over another 200 spins. The outcome of all slots play is always random.

Boom Or Bust? Our Session By The Numbers

I played 100 spins on Money Sleigh on Relax Gaming’s test servers prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.

  • Stake Size: 1
  • Start balance: 5,000
  • End balance: 4,952.70
  • Hold and Win Round Rate: 7% (7 Hold and Win Rounds in 100)
  • Biggest Win: 35.9x

It’s a weird concept playing a slot with no base game. Fortunately, the Hold and Win round triggered roughly 1 in 14 spins (7%) so you don’t have to wait too long for it to drop. But once there, mostly the wins were small: 2.2x, 2.3x, 2.8x, 2.6x, 3.8x, 2.1x and then … 35.9x.

Money Sleigh Eternal Helper symbol
An Eternal Helper – bottom left – on the way to a 35.9x win

On 4 out of the 7 features I didn’t even see a special symbol at all, and on 2 of the remaining features I saw a special but it was a Gatherer or Helper and didn’t achieve much. The 35.9x win came courtesy of an Eternal Helper which doubled the value of symbols on every spin. If you get one of these going and keep re-setting the counter you are in business. One of those and a Gatherer-Giver, even better.

Takeaways? As volatile and tight as you would expect, but with a Hold and Win round with the potential to pop in a big way too.

What We Liked

  • No messing with base games - just a Hold and Win round!
  • Fun festive production
  • Lots of special symbols to collect and re-distribute coin values
  • Solid 96% RTP
  • Nice max win of 10,000x

What We Didn't like

  • A tough and volatile slot

What Our Reviewer Says ...

"A decent re-work of a classic Relax Gaming slot but with volatility that doesn't let up, even for Christmas!"

Overall Score: 7.4

Theme & Design

Our Score 8

Money Sleigh is about as far from the Wild West steampunk caper that is Money Cart as you can get. The game takes place in an idyllic festive setting with a cute house and fir trees shrouded in snow in the background. In the foreground our Santa’s sleigh slides into view, with rows and reels of snow globes waiting to spin. A traditional cheery Xmas soundtrack plays over the top. It’s top level production as you would expect from Relax Gaming.

RTP and Variance

Our Score 8

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next.  Read more here.

What is Variance?

Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.

Money Sleigh an RTP rate of 96%. That is a good return for a slot these days and typical for a Relax Gaming one.

The volatility is most definitely high, in keeping with the rest of the Money Train and Cart series. Expect this one to be tight as hell for long periods before kicking out a big win or two out of nowhere.

Maximum Win

Our Score 8

What Is Maximum Win?

Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.

The max win in Money Sleigh is 10,000x. That is the same as Money Train 3. It’s not a bad win potential but if you want more (but without the festive cheer) you could try our list of Relax Gaming’s highest max win slots.

Symbols and Paytable

Our Score 6

Money Sleigh plays on 5 reels, each displaying 4 rows. However, there is no pay table as such as there is no traditional base game. Instead, once you start playing only bonus symbols or blanks land on the reels. You need to land 3 bonus symbols to trigger the main event, the Hold and Win bonus round.

Features and Gameplay

Our Score 7

Money Sleigh is all about the classic Hold and Win feature round. You start with 3 re-spins and during the round only snow globes displaying money values or 1 to 10, special symbols, or blanks land. Each time a special symbol lands, the re-spins counter re-sets to 3.

Money Sleigh Hold and Win Round
The Hold and Win round with 2 extra reels in play

These are your special symbols:

  • Gatherer – collects all visible values on the reels and adds them to its own.
  • Gatherer-Giver – gathers the value of between 3 and 5 symbols, adding them to its own value before giving back its new value to each of those symbols.
  • Helper – doubles the value of 3 to 8 symbols.
  • Santa – brings between 2 and 7 special symbols back to life – i.e.the Gatherer, Gatherer-Giver, Helper, Super Helper, Super Giver.
  • Snow Bank – removes any normal symbols from the grid.
  • Super Helper – doubles the value of one symbol 2 to 6 times.
  • Super Giver – takes a coin value of between 5 and 100 and adds it to another symbol between 3 and 10 times.
  • Eternal Gatherer – takes all visible values on the reel and adds them to its own on every remaining spin of the round.
  • Eternal Helper – doubles the value of between 3 and 8 symbols on every remaining spin of the round.
  • Enternal Gatherer-Giver – chooses from 3 to 5 symbols, takes their values and adds to its own before paying the new value back out to each of those symbols. Does this on each remaining spin of the round.
  • Eternal Santa – revives between 1 and 7 special symbols on each remaining spin of the round.
  • Eternal Mystery – turns into a different special symbol with each spin.

And finally, each time a reel is filled with special symbols an extra reel is added to the game. This can happen TWICE.

The Final Verdict

Money Sleigh will be a great Christmas gift for those high variance slots fans who enjoy the Money Train series and want a quick way to enter the Hold and Win round in the absence of bonus buy in the UK. As our test session showed you should trigger once in less than every 15 spins on average which isn’t bad. And thanks to those powerful Eternal special symbols and the re-set mechanism that keeps taking you back to 3 re-spins, it has lots of potential. However, Money Train remains a very volatile game which means it will be really tight, even in the season for giving!
