What Our Reviewer Says …
A HUGE progressive jackpot bolted onto one of the all time iconic Western slots!
What We Like
- Mega Dream Drop Jackpot pays out up to €3,000,000
- Classic Money Cart bonus round with Hold and Win format
- Part of an iconic game series
- 10,000x non progressive max win too
What We Didn't Like
- Tough volatility make it one that can burn your balance
- Lower RTP than original due to jackpot contribution
Theme and Design
Perhaps it was the release of the Red Dead Redemption games that rekindled our love of the Wild West? Either way, there have been plenty of super-popular Western-themed slots in the last few years, 2 Wild 2 Die, The Wild Gang, and now the latest in the popular Money Train series, Money Train Origins Dream Drop.
Relax Gaming hasn’t exactly ‘hit copy paste’ when it comes to the latest installment, but they have stayed faithful to the original Western theme. The playgrid is a train carriage set over the backdrop of a wooden Western town. There’s even a cinematic introduction where you get to meet all of the main characters.
RTP and Variance
With an RTP of 94% this game puts 12% of every single spin straight into the progressive jackpot pool. So, while the RTP isn’t exactly excellent, we think it’s more than made up for by the fact that you’re adding to that jackpot all the time.
The volatility on this game is also super high. So, you’ll need a healthy bankroll to even out the gaps between the wins. If you’re looking for a much less volatile option then there are a couple of other games on the same progressive jackpot network that could be worth trying: Cosmic Rush Dream Drop and Temple of Fury Dream Drop.
Maximum Win
When it comes to the top payout, there are two that we need to consider. The Dream Drops jackpot is what most of us are hoping for. The Mega one seeds at €500,000 and can’t be won until it reaches at least €1,000,000. Not bad!
There’s also the non-progressive top payout and this game is pretty generous with that too. It has a 10,000x non-progressive max win, which is about average for slots on the Dream Drops network. If you’re looking for a higher paying slot then Dueling Jokers Dream Drop is a good option. It has an old school, fruity-slot vibe and 50,000x non-progressive max win.
Symbols and Paytable
The 5x4 grid features 40 paylines. Wins are made by landing between 3 and 5 matching symbols across a line from left to right starting at the left most reel.
There are 8 paying symbols, as well as a wild symbol which can substitute for any of the other pay symbols. The low value symbols are the card suits, worth between 3x and 5x the stake for 5 symbols. The premium symbols are the characters, which are worth between 8 and 20x the stake for 5 symbols.
Features and Gameplay
Money Train Origins Dream Drop has three solid features. Let’s take a look at them in detail.
Wild Symbol
If you spot a golden revolver during your game then that’s the wild symbol. It can be substituted for any of the other paying symbols to make a win. It also ups what you’re paid out for that win. You get 0.8x, 4x or 20x the bet for 3, 4 or 5 wild symbols.
Money Cart Bonus Round
The Money Cart Bonus round is a brilliant feature with lots of interesting mechanics. You trigger it by landing 3 scatter symbols anywhere on the grid. Once the bonus round starts, only tumbleweed (blank squares) or bonus symbols will land.
You start off with 3 respins. Once you fill a reel with symbols, an extra reel is added above it, up to a maximum of two additional reels. You can land the following symbols:
Bonus symbol: shows a value of 1x to 10x your bet.
- Collector: collects all of the values in view and adds them to the value on its own symbol.
- Payer: shows a value that gets added to all of the other symbols.
- Banker: just like a payer, but its value is added to all symbols that show for the whole bonus round.
- Healer: gives new life to collector and payer symbols, between 2 and 7 turns.
- Persistent Collector: collects all of the values in view, adds them to its own value, keeping them for all spins.
- Persistent Payer: just like the payer symbol, but lasting for all following spins.
If you manage to fill all 28 of the squares on the grid with symbols (excluding the Healer) then you get a prize of 1,000x your bet and the feature ends.
Dream Drop Bonus
The DD bonus symbols can land before any normal spin. If every position gets filled with a DD symbol then the bonus round triggers. You’ll be asked to pick from the squares on the grid to reveal a jackpot (rapid, midi, maxi, major, or mega). If you get three of a kind, that’s the jackpot you’ll win! The seed values for each jackpot are shown below:
- Rapid (seeded at €1)
- Midi (seeded at €5)
- Maxi (seeded at €100)
- Major (seeded at €25,000)
- Mega (seeded at €500,000 with a minimum payout of €1,000,000)
Final Verdict
Relax Gaming has managed to bring together all of the elements that made the Money Train/Money Cart series so popular. The theme is flawless with stunning graphics and a twangy Western theme tune. The Money Train bonus round is excellent too, offering the potential for big wins.
While this is a high volatility game, there are big prizes at stake. If you’ve got a generous bankroll and a hankering to head to the Wild West, then this game is a brilliant choice.
Testing Notes
Test spins and results analysis by Mark Wadie on 28.06.24
Results from 400 spins with real money on Money Train Origins Dream Drop at Bacana Play.
- Stake Size: £0.2
- Start balance: £53.87
- End balance: £3.95
- Win Rate: 14.5% (58 winning spins in 400)
- Biggest Win: 17x
- Bonus Round: 1
It’s nice to know the Dream Drop version of Money Train Origins is as unforgiving as the original. It took 394 spins to unlock the bonus only to come away with a win of just 17x, shown in this screenshot. Not a single special symbol showed up during the re-spins. Before then I saw no less than 8 near misses where 2 BONUS symbols landed, but the reels fell agonisingly short waiting for that 3rd.
Over a total of 400 spins the win rate was 14.5%, which is about what you expect from a Money Train game, maybe a little under. The biggest base game win was a 23.6x from a win involving 5 wilds.
As for the Dream Drop bonus – no sign of that at all.
So, as simple, classy and volatile as ever!
