Like most Relax Gaming slots, Space Attacks has a really fun feel to it. There is a Men In Black space invaders quirkiness to the design and the cloning features fit nicely with the alien theme. However, annoyingly they rarely showed up for me, and in 100 spins never produced a win. Instead, I did get two shots at the free spins round, one of which produced a 13.2x win and the other a 5x win. There I did get to see the Clone symbol in action, and combined with a good few cascades it worked a bit of magic.

Take aways? This is a fun slot, though not as exciting or sophisticated as others in Relax’s catalogue. Probably only worth playing for the progressives.

There’s already a super solid space themed slot (try saying that three times fast) in the Dream Drops collection, Space Miners Dream Drop, but Space Attacks manages to hold its own, in part thanks to its brilliant design. You’re situated inside a spaceship looking out onto stars and planets whizzing by. There’s a modern day Star Trek vibe to the cockpit and the transparent reels add to this futuristic feel.

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. This slot has an RTP of 94% which might seem low at first but it’s pretty standard amongst the slots on the Dream Drops network, Part of the reason for this is that 12% of every spin goes directly to the jackpot pool. So, while it’s not brilliant, at least you know it’s bumping up that jackpot every time.

Space Attacks Dream Drop is played on 5 reels and 5 rows with 295 connected paylines. To make a win you need to match symbols on at least three reels that are adjacent to one another and either 1 row above, 1 row below, or on the same row. All wins start from the first reel on the left.

There are 10 pay symbols in this slot, as well as a wild, a bonus symbol, and special symbols which we’ll cover shortly. The low paying symbols are the card suits (diamonds, spades, clubs and hearts). These pay out between 0.2x and 0.35x the bet for 5x symbols. The premium symbols are the aliens in blue, green, orange, red, and gold colours. These pay out between 0.6x and 2x the bet for 5x symbols. 

The wild can substitute for all pay symbols, but not special symbols.

Connected Ways

First up is the way to make wins, through connected ways. This means that you make wins whenever matching symbols appear in a position that’s ‘connected’ to the others, (one above, one below, or the same row on adjacent reels). You need to line up the symbols in that connection on three or more adjacent reels, starting from the left. 

Cascades

Whenever you make a win through the connected ways, a cascade begins. This makes the winning symbols vanish and lets new symbols cascade into their place. The cascade keeps going for as long as you keep making new wins. 

Special Symbols

The 3 special symbols work as follows:

  • Clone Chosen Symbol (pink question mark): One of the symbols currently on the reels is chosen. Then all of the rightmost instances of those symbols on each row are cloned in every position to the leftmost reel, helping to form wins. Then, the special symbol becomes a wild.
  • Clone Symbols All Rows (green hazard sign): Five random symbols are chosen from reels 2, 3, 4, and 5 and are cloned to the leftmost reel. After this, the special symbol becomes a wild.
  • Turn Into Wilds (yellow W): 1, 2, or 3 symbols at random are turned into Wilds. All instances of the symbols become wilds and after the special symbol becomes wild too.

Free Spins

If you land three bonus symbols then the free spins round begins. This feature has an interesting format – for every spin you win, the free spins counter resets to 3, for every spin you lose, the counter decreases by 1. After 3 non-winning spins in a row, the free spins round ends.

But also, every time the spins are rest to 3, your win multiplier also increases by 1x. This multiplier applies to all wins but resets at the end of the round.

The Final Verdict

With its futuristic space theme, there will already be a whole host of players waiting to try out this game. In terms of design it absolutely doesn’t disappoint and the progressive jackpot will also be a big draw for many. The non-progressive max win of 8,000x your bet is perfectly respectable, especially with the progressive prize on offer. However, it is lower than the rest of the Dream Drops competition. 

With that said, medium volatility will make this game a little easier on the bankroll. Especially when you combine it with the three special symbols, each making it far easier to form wins.
