The design also bears all the hallmarks of the Relax Gaming products – beautifully rendered with great detail, particularly in the animations and sound affects.

Listen for the noises as stone blocks crash into one another, winning symbols and blocker tiles crack and explode into many pieces, and the Knights slam their swords down to indicate multipliers and mystery symbols being applied.

Altogether very fitting for a slot with such immense potential but tough, tough variance.

Templar Tumble 2 Dream Drop has an RTP of 94%. However, keep in mind that 12% of that return is made available for the progressive jackpot pool so it can feel like you are playing at a much lower RTP. This is standard for Dream Drop games, almost all of which run at 94%.

Symbols and Paytable

Templar Tumble 2 Dream Drop uses a pay ways model where wins are triggered by landing identical symbols on adjacent reels from left to right, regardless of the row they land on. With 6 reels and 7 rows, that gives you 117,649 paylines on each spin.

You know you are facing an uphill battle when you look at the paytable here. It’s not generous that is for sure. The 5 low payers – diamonds, clubs, hearts, spades and stars – won’t get you a win higher than 0.6x for six on a line. The premiums – tree, bird, lion and knight – are a little better but still top out at just 2x for 6 of the highest paying knight.

The flip side to this tight paytable of course is that there are 117,649 paylines in play on all spins and opportunities to boost value with multipliers and mystery symbols, as well as the chance of randomly hit a jackpot, however remote.

Features and Gameplay

Templar Tumble 2 is a tumble wins slot with progressive gameplay.

With each spin, a mix of symbols and blank blocker tiles is dropped onto the grid. If a payline is completed, winning symbols, and adjacent blocker tiles are removed and new ones are dropped in to replace them. This is a ‘tumble’. If this brings up another win, then the process repeats. If not, the round ends.

Whilst this is happening you have the chance to collect symbols that trigger one of three features – multipliers, mystery symbols or free spins. The exciting, and frustrating part of the game, is that once the sequence of tumbles ends, your collection of symbols is lost and you are back to the start again. A new spin, more tumbles, and more chances to collect symbols.

Activating Multipliers and Mystery Symbols

The big event here is the free spins round or the Dream Drop Jackpot game. But these are rarities and in the meantime your attention should be focused on filling the blue and red meters held by the Knights standing either side of the grid. To do so you need to destroy symbols or blockers that land with blue or red frames around them. Each one that is destroyed fills another space on its respective meter.

Each meter has 5 spaces. Destroy 5 symbols with blue frames and you fill the blue meter. And the same for red. Once you hit 5 blue, your win multiplier increases by 1x for the round. Once you hit 5 red, you get two new mystery symbols added to the reels. These reveal either a standard pay symbol or a 1x or 100x cash win. 

The vast amount of time spent playing Templar Tumble 2 will involve dead spins or you watching just one or two tumbles before the round ends and your meters re-set. However, there will be times when the tumble sequence stretches further, your multiplier grows and more mystery symbols are added with cash values and that can be pretty exciting.

And there is a further twist. Blockers never drop in after the original spin, only symbols. So, gradually you are filling the grid with symbols. And once all blockers are gone, each new meter level is just 3 high.

Free Spins Round Without Re-Sets Between Spins

Finally, there are the five Dream Drop Jackpots. This network was launched in May 2022 and has grown in popularity quickly so that the prizes grow quickly and the Mega now regularly drops a win of in excess of £1,000,000.

To get a chance at that you need to be awarded a random Jackpot Spin. This could happen at any time. When it does, on a few grid of six reels you must land six DD symbols. If any of the reels come up blank, the chance is gone and you return to the main game. If all six reels land a DD, then you’re into the main jackpot round.

Here, a new reel set flanked by Templar Knights in gold armour appears. This has 5 reels, one for each jackpot. Spins start and once again only DD symbols and blockers land. The spins continue until one of the reels is filled with DD symbols and its jackpot is triggered.

The Final Verdict

High variance games in the Dream Drop series can be very tough and monotonous plays but whilst Templar Tumble 2 was no easy ride it did prove more entertaining than others with a similar high risk model like Neko Nights for example. The multiplier and mystery symbols mechanics keep things interesting throughout the base game, even though on most occasions the tumbles ended before any significant wins could be triggered. The atmosphere and design carries the game a long way too – its easy to get immersed in its grandeur whilst waiting for an epic even to land. We never unlocked the free spins round but it has the kind of progressive features that indicate every once in a while it will go off in a big way.
