Theme and Design
Some slots fans may already be familiar with the Wild Chapo story. It involves a mad Mexican with long moustache, broad-rimmed hat whose never far from his dynamite sticks and his pet donkey, dog and owl. It’s a comedy of sorts in which the hapless hero seems to blow up everything in sight, sometimes on purpose, sometimes not. Either way, as ever with Relax slots, the production is superb with a fun 3-d animated clip to kick things before you get down to business.
The action takes place in a shack somewhere in the Mexican desert, blue skies overhead and cacti scattered around. It is beautifully drawn and soundtracked by a classic Mexican guitar track. Watch out for the rolling sound as the reels spin over wooden shutters and the fun little animations when the premium animal characters form part of a win.
RTP and Variance
Wild Chapo Dream Drop has an RTP of 94% whilst 12% of each bet is made as a contribution towards the progressive jackpot total for the Dream Drop network. This is standard for Dream Drop games, most of which run at 94% RTP.
This is also a highly volatile game, another characteristic of this slot series.
Maximum Win
The maximum win for Wild Chapo Dream Drop in the standard game is 10,000x. This is about average for Dream Drop games though you will now find some with a 20,000x maximum win such as Neko Nights and Templar Tumble 2. Of course the progressives now regularly pay out over £1,000,000 thanks to a £500k seed too.
Below is a list of games with a similar variance and payouts.
Symbols and Paytable
Wild Chapo plays on a 5 reel grid with 3 rows on each reel and 15 fixed paylines. You must land 3 or more identical symbols, or a mix of symbols and wilds, along a payline from left to right starting on the left.
Symbol values are good with all low paying card suits - Hearts, Diamonds, Spades and Clubs – paying between 0.4x for 3 on a line and 4x for 5 on a line. The 4 premiums - Owls, Cayotes, Donkeys and El Chapo pay out between 1x and 25x for 5 on a payline.
Wilds are useful in this game too because not only do they help complete winlines but they also pay out at 5x, 15x and 40x for 3, 4 or 5 on a line.
Features and Gameplay
Like all high risk Relax Gaming slots, Wild Chapo Dream Drop is a difficult game to break. The reels rattle and spin time and again with no return but amongst all those dead spins, occasionally something good happens.
Expanding Wilds and Re-Spins
First of all, the symbols to look out for are the TNT crates and the Bonus.
TNT crates are explosive and will cause wilds to expand upwards on their reel. However, this only happens if this will create a win. Don’t expect it to happen every time like we did or you’ll become very frustrated. When there is no win to be made, they just fizzle out instead.
Bonus symbols on the other hand will either trigger a re-spin or free spins.
When landing two then they will transform into sticky wilds and set up a re-spin. Landing a wild on the re-spin will then trigger another. This can happen over and over until no more wilds land.
Both Expanding Wilds and Re-Spins proved quite rare in this game and the feeling is that most of the power is reserved for free spins round and the progressive jackpot. Nothing wrong with that, though both of those are very tricky to unlock too!
Free Spins Round
The free spins works like this. Three Bonus symbols gets you 7 spins, 4 gets you 9 and 5 gets you 11. A further 3 scatters in the round will earn you another 3 spins.
The game here is all about scoring wins and setting yourself up for a grand finale. Because each time a bonus symbol lands then a little bonus icon will appear where it landed. If another bonus symbol lands in that position during the round, another bonus icon is added. Then, before the final spin, all bonus icons become wilds with multipliers equal to the total number of bonus icons collected in that position.
When your final spin plays out, wild multipliers are further enhanced if they combine – rather than being added together they are multiplied by each other. So, if you had a 3x and a 2x on a win line, your multiplier is 6x.
Dream Drop Jackpots
The main even is undoubtedly the Dream Drop feature. In this instance, Relax use a Prize Wheel to determine the jackpot to be paid. There are two stages to winning one of the them.
- At any stage in the game a jackpot spin is tiggered to play out on a new 5-reel grid. You get ONE spin only with DD symbols and blanks. You need to hit FIVE DD symbols – one on EVERY reel – to move to the next stage.
- Rather than a reel set, Wild Chapo uses a Prize Wheel in gold. It’s really simple. Just spin the wheel and wait to see where it lands. The arrow will point to a segment displaying one of the five jackpot names. These are the JPs and their seed values:
- Rapid: Seeded at £1
- Midi: Seeded at £5
- Maxi: Seeded at £100
- Major: Seeded at £25,000
- Mega: Seeded at £1,000,000*
*The seed value for the Mega Jackpot started at £500,000. It increases by £500,000 after every second win. This will continue until it reaches a maximum of £10,000,000.
Final Verdict
Wild Chapo Dream Drop is the same as the original game, just with the progressives added on. If you are not interested in progressives then you can afford to give it a miss in favour or the version with a higher RTP setting. However, if chasing down a £1,000,000+ prize is what you are here for then this version is for you.
Once again though, Relax’s high volatility engine means that Wild Chapo can be a frustrating experience for much of the time. The features are fun, particularly the TNT symbols that explode to produce expanding wilds, but they are pretty rare. Outside of the jackpot, the best route to big wins will be in the free spins round where it may be possible to fill the entire grid with multiplier wilds for a finale not to be missed!
