Theme and Design
Crazy Tooth Bring Their Own Production Style To This Bass Fishing Slot
This might be a Bass-themed slot based in peaceful lake setting with mountains in the background, but the characters on display are a little different to what we see in Pragmatic’s classic fishing series for example. We have manic looking fishermen and an out of place spear-fishing woman for a start. Can you catch bass with spear? I guess so. Anyway, the style is very much Crazy Tooth and the twangy guitar soundtrack, complete with whizzing reel on each spin and splashing water sounds adds a fun element to the experience. It’s well produced and as good as any other fishing slot out there.
RTP and Variance
All About The Bass has three RTP rates – 96.17%, 94.1%, 92.32%. To see which rate the game is set to at your casino you’ll need to hit the 3 dots in the top left corner of the screen, then select ‘Help’, then scroll through to the bottom of the page. It may be hard to find a slot site where this game is running at its optimum rate of 96.17%, but I wouldn’t recommend settling for less than 94.1%. Barz Casino from White Hat Gaming usually offers Crazy Tooth slots at this level or higher.
The volatility for All About The Bass is set to medium. So, the win distribution is relatively even. This is a less volatile experience than Pragmatic Play’s Big Bass games for example.
Maximum Win
Despite its medium variance, All About The Bass still comes in with a relatively high max win of 9,009x. That’s not bad at all. But if you prefer chasing down bigger wins then check out our article on slots with the highest max wins.
Symbols and Paytable
All About The Bass is a 5 reel slot with 3 rows and 21 paylines. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols across a line from left to right, starting at the left most reel.
There are 10 pay symbols in all. The values are VERY underwhelming.
The six low value ones are the basket, worms, float, net, hat and picnic box. These are valued at from 0.08x for 3 baskets up to 0.4x for 5 picnic boxes. The premiums are the four characters – the female spear fisher, the crazy looking guy with the fishing rod, the bearded guy with the net and the guy with the red moustache and rod. They are valued at from 0.16x for 3 up to 0.8x for 5.
In the base game there is a Wild symbol that substitutes for any pay symbol to complete a payline. It has no pay value of its own. There are also 2x multiplier versions of the wild that appear on reels 1, 3 and 5, and 3x multiplier versions of the wild that appear on reels 2 and 4.
Features and Gameplay
All About The Bass has a classic cash collect feature and a free spins round. Here is how they work.
All About The Bass Cash Collect
When you start playing this game you’ll notice that above the reels is an extra row into which fishermen in boats drop at random. Below each reel is another row where fish are displayed with cash values on them. With each spin, the fish MAY move one position to the left, but they don’t always do that. Sometime the fish row sticks for 3 or 4 spins at least.
The objective is to catch the fish and collect their value by landing a fisherman in a boat and a hook symbol on the reel beneath him at the same time. Fish come in different sizes with different values printed on them.
- Small Fish: 4x to 10.4x
- Medium Fish: 14x to 40x
- Large Fish: 47x to 91x
- Mega Fish: 160x to 960x
NOTE: Multiplier Wild values are applied to the fish’s value if the wild lands on the reel above the fish at the time the fish’s value is collected.
There is also a Special Fish which has comes with a multiplier value of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x or 10x or a Collect All or Instant Bonus award. They work like this:
- The multiplier value is applied to ONE of the other visible fish before that prize is awarded.
- The Collect All will activate the prizes displayed on the fish on the other 4 spots at the time it is awarded.
- The Instant Bonus takes you directly into the bonus round described next.
And … if you have a 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x Special Fish in play under the reels, its value will increase to the next level up as it moves across the row with each successive spin.
All About The Bonus
The second phase of the game is this one. It is triggered by landing 3 or more scatters – a cup with BONUS written across it.
Now we move into a different kind of Cash Collect game on a new grid where only cash values and Specials are displayed. Cash values are from 0.4x to 6x.
You have FIVE spins in which AT LEASTone of FOUR multipliers will land anywhere on the grid – 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x. Multipliers are carried onto the grid by fish which swim across a row, stopping to either trigger a collect of the value of the cash displayed, applying its multiplier value first, OR to trigger the special symbol displayed.
Specials work are as follows:
Retrigger Symbols – number of spins increases by value equivalent to the triggering multiplier. The re-trigger transforms into a cash symbol.
Credit Boost Symbols – all cash values are increased by the credit boost value multiplied by the multiplier value.
Rows Symbols – all cash values on the row the multiplier lands on are collected after the multiplier has been applied to them.
Columns Symbols - all cash values on the column the multiplier lands on are collected after the multiplier has been applied to them.
Orthognal Symbols - all cash values in adjacent positions (top, bottom, left, right) to the multiplier are collected after the multiplier has been applied to them.
Final Verdict
It would be a disservice to Crazy Tooth to label this game as just another Bass fishing slot. The online gambling world is seeing a glut of fishing games right now and you need to do something special to stand out. I think this studio has done just that with this game. The production style is very fun, and the mechanism to unlock the cash collects means edge of the seat gameplay as you wait to see it you can land the big prizes that swim across the bottom of the grid. And the bonus round itself is original, setting up prize values and powerful special symbols, so you can see what you might win, before teasing out the suspense as you wait for multipliers to unlock those prizes. It’s fun, but as the test session showed, it can also drive you a bit mad when you lose out on those prizes. Good fun then, if a little frustrating too!
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on All About The Bass on Crazy Tooth Studio’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: £1
- Start balance: £2,000
- End balance: £1,898.60
- Hit Rate: 23.2% (58 winning spins in 250)
- Biggest Win: 24x
- Free Spins Round: 1
This is a fun game and Crazy Tooth have their own style so it doesn’t just feel like another bass fishing slot game. The win rate was good – 23.2% is about average, and one free spin round in 250 spins isn’t unusual so no complaints there either.
However, on the flipside, the balance took a beating here, mainly because all base game wins were very small because the paytable has such low values. The maximum value of a premium is just 0.8x for 5 on a line. So, you are TOTALLY dependent on multipliers to see a win of any decent value. The best I got was an 11.84x.
And far as landing wins from cash collects goes, I saw just 4 in 250 spins, the best of which was a 6x! And here’s the issue with this slot – it’s a massive tease! It regularly waves big prizes in front of you in the base game where fish with huge values or instant bonus game access sit waiting to be caught, only for no hook to land to trigger the win. So beware, it can be frustrating.
Finally, the bonus round produced a 24x win and to be fair, it’s a fun alternative to a basic free spins game. Like a classic Hold and Win, scoring big payouts is all about landing the most powerful special symbols that can collect up multiple cash values in one go. I only had one row symbol, and no other on the grid, so my win wasn’t great. But you can see where a good combination of specials and big multipliers might produce something much better.
