Excellent Production Including Stardust Animations and 3d Book Symbols

It’s fun to see how each game studio brings their own style to the ‘Book of’ format. Just as Quickspin’s Book of Duat is most definitely a Quickspin production, so Book of Power is a Relax Gaming one. The artistic style is instantly recognisable from the studio who brought you the Temple Tumble series, with its clean and warm hue.

The backdrop is what looks like the outer wall of a temple with two huge stone statues of Pharaohs. There is a kind of dusty filter over the whole scene which makes it feel like you’ve just walked into a recently opened tomb. The reels themselves are crystal-clear however, with sharp illustrations of Egyptian-icons. There are also cool animations – the Book, for example, turns 3d when it lands and emits a kind of Disney fairy dust to give a sense of magic. And our Explorer, looking like a friend of the Temple Tumble adventurers, animates when he lands on the reels. And to complete the production there is a dramatic orchestral score that strays a little from the traditional Egyptian sounds we’re used do in these games.

So, altogether, a top-class production with a luxurious, quality feel.

RTP and Variance

Book of Power has one RTP setting of 96.11% so no matter where you play it will run at this level. That is around average so no complaints there. As anyone who has played Book of games elsewhere will know, these are traditionally high variance slots and Relax have felt no need to change that. The base game ticks along relentlessly as you wait for 3 or more Book symbols to land and trigger the free spins where, in this case, combinations of expanding symbols and multipliers can drive big wins.

The top payout in Book of Power is 15,000x which catches the eye. It is higher than Play n Go’s Book of Dead (5,000x) and Ghost of Dead (10,000x) but short of games like Quickspin’s brilliant Book of Duat (32,760x) or the scary Book of Shadows (30,761x) by Nolimit City.

Symbols and Paytable

There are 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines in action on each spin in this game. You can only bet on 10 paylines per spin unlike Play n Go’s Book of series which allows you to drop the paylines to just 1 if you wish.

It is a feature of ‘Book of’ games that they have good value in the paytable and Book of Power is no exception. The low value symbols are the cards, 10 through to Ace. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 10s up to 15x for 5 Aces. Then there are the picture premium symbols. These are the Pyramid, Temple, Pharaoh and Explorer, valued at from 0.5x for 2 Pyramids up to 500x for 5 Explorers.

In this instance the Wild is represented by the Books – blue and red. These substitute for all other symbols to complete paylines but are also instrumental in unlocking the free spins round which I will explain further down. They also have pay value at 1x, 10x, 100x or 500x for 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.

Blue Book Symbol Triggers a Standard Book of Free Spins Round

The first round is triggered by the blue Book of symbol. 3, 4 or 5 blue books landing ANYWHERE on the reels earns you 10, 15 or 20 free spins.

As standard, ONE symbol will randomly be chosen before the free spins starts to be the expander. When it lands, it expands to full reel height and so that further wins can be triggered in any direction.

That is your typical Book of free spins round. But there is a twist. If you land 2 further Blue Book symbols during free spins then ANOTHER symbol is randomly chosen as the expander AND 5 more spins are awarded. And if the randomly chosen symbol happens to be the one that is already the expander, then a 1x multiplier is added to it instead.

Red Power Book Symbol Triggers Power Free Spins With Upgrades

The extra round that you get here has been carefully configured to produce added thrills. So, as usual, 3, 4 or 5 Power Books get you 10, 15 or 20 free spins. And one symbol is chosen as the expander. But the difference is, if you land 2 more Book symbols then rather than adding another expander, the one you have is simply upgraded to the next pay symbol.
