Theme and Design
Pragmatic Play have created many sweet-themed slots over the years so they know how it’s done. The backdrop is not quite as saccharine as you see in games like Sugar Rush 1,000 or Sweet Bonanza 1,000 but it’s still a delightful landscape of pinks and blues with blue skies and fluffy clouds hovering over a gingerbread house. The plinky piano soundtrack is standard stuff too, upbeat and happy. Why mess with what works?!

RTP and Variance
There are three available RTP rates for casino operators in the UK. They are 96.50%, 95.50% and 94.50%. There it not much between those but when you’re playing to win every little helps, so we recommend finding slot sites where the RTP rate is at the optimum 96.5% setting. In our own research we’ve found MrQ from Lindar Media to be a good option. They always run Pragmatic Play slots at the highest RTP rates.
HINT: You can check the RTP rate for yourself wherever you play by hitting the ‘I’ button under the reels and scrolling through the game rules pages until you see Return to Player.
It’s no surprise to find that Candy Corner is also a volatile slot. Most of Pragmatic’s sweet-themed slots are. That means it can be a streaky play with an uneven win distribution. Setting a low stake level will help to ride out those dry spells.
Maximum Win
The max payout is capped at 10,000x, also typical of Pragmatic Play slots. That’s not a bad top win, giving you £1,000 from a 10p bet if you get that lucky. Bigger wins are available in our list of Pragmatic Play slots with the highest max wins.
Symbols and Paytable
Candy Corner is a grid slot played on a 7x7 square with cluster pays wins. That means you need to land clusters of SIX of more identical symbols to complete a win. The fun part about cluster pays games of course is that you can potentially build huge clusters of 30 or more symbols worth big money.

There are 8 pay symbols to match up. They are the banana, blueberry, water melon, kiwi, green sweet, blue sweet, doughnut and red sweet. They are valued at from 0.2x for 6 bananas up to 200x for 30 to 45 red sweets.
The game also has a Wild – represented by the letter W – that can substitute for pay symbols to complete clusters. It can appear anywhere on the grid.
Features and Gameplay
As well as tumble wins, the features to look out for through both base game and free spins are the modifier corners which bring extra wilds, multipliers and instant wins into play. Here is how it works:
Tumbles After Every Win
As with many cluster pays slots, Candy Corner uses a tumble wins mechanic. That means after each win, all symbols in winning clusters are removed from the grid. The remaining symbols drop into spaces left behind and new ones drop in to fill the final spaces. This process may create more winning clusters, in which case it repeats. Until no more winning clusters are formed.
Modifier Corners With Multipliers, Instant Wins and Wilds
The games gets its name from the Modifier Corners feature. Each of the four corners of the grid has an empty space at the start of a spin. Those spaces MAY get filled by a random modifier symbol from this list:
- Instant Win Symbol – a chocolate block displaying a prize of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x or 50x.
- Win Multiplier – a green sweet displaying a multiplier to be applied to all wins from the current spin. The multiplier values may be 2x, 3x, 5x, 8x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 75x or 100x.
- Add Wilds – A canon adds between 2 and 8 wilds randomly onto the grid.
- Big Wild – an expanded wild sized 2x2, 3x3, 4x4 or 5x5 is added in a random position on the grid.
NOTE: In the base game only ONE of each type of modifier can land on any spin.

Free Spins and Golden Free Spins
There are 2 versions of the free spins round - a standard one and a Golden Free Spins. Which you get is decided at random. Both give you an enhanced gameplay.
You need to land at least 3 scatter symbols – the sweet with ‘Scatter’ written on it – to trigger the round. You get 6, 8, 10, 12 or 14 spins for 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 scatters.
The big difference is the now up to FOUR of the SAME modifier can drop into the Modifier Corners on any spin, except for the Big Wild, of which only TWO can drop on the same spin. Also, a new modifier symbol is available, an Extra Free Spins one that can add 2, 3, 4 of 5 more spins to your total for the round.
And during free spins you are GUARANTEED to get at least TWO modifier symbols on every spin.
The Golden Free Spins round has one further addition. Before the round starts one modifier symbol is chosen to land on every spin as a third GUARANTEED modifier. This can be the new Free Spins modifier, but it that lands then you just get 10 more spins and the standard two guaranteed modifiers per spin.
These are significant enhancements to the base game round and show Pragmatic Play have teed up some big win potential for the free spins phase of the game!
Final Verdict
There is lots of winning potential in Candy Corner all stored up in those powerful modifiers. The problem is unlocking them of course. With the best opportunities weighted to the free spins round where modifiers drop on every spin rather than every 20 spins, it’s clear you’ll need to hit that feature if you want to see the best of this game. So patience and a good starting balance are needed. Remember, it may look sweet on the outside, but Candy Corners might just be a tough play.
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on Candy Corner on Pragmatic Play’s test servers prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 100,000
- End balance: 99,949.10
- Win Rate: 26.5% (53 winning spins in 200)
- Biggest Win: 37.6x
- Free Spins Round: 1
Candy Corner was a fun game to try, ticking all the boxes for cute, sweet-flavoured slots. But it definitely has that volatile edge. Overall the win rate was a very solid 26.5% - that’s more than 1 in 4 spins kicking out a win of some kind, which is great. But it could also run 8 to 10 spins without a win quite easily, so be ready for that uneven pattern.
I also found that the modifiers in the base game were a lot rarer than I expected. The first 30 spins produced none. Yes, ZERO modifiers! I was beginning to think the game was broken. But then over the following 170 spins, 20 modifiers showed up. Despite the chance for up to 4 to land on one spin I never saw more than 2 at one time. Most common was the random wild or the instant wins. I never saw a colossal wild. And I only recall a couple of multiplier modifiers. The best base game win was a 14.1x which included a 10x instant win modifier.

As expected, the best win came when the free spins round finally triggered after 172 spins. I got just 6 spins but it’s much more powerful configuration at this point because you are guaranteed to see at least 2 modifiers per spin. Now you can combine a multiplier with a good instant win prize for example, and that really pushes up the total win.

So overall I thought this was a fun slot but tight in the base game. The frequency of modifiers is just about enough to keep you interested whilst waiting for a free spins trigger, but it can burn you in the process, so keep that in mind when choosing a stake.
