Theme and Design
Strut Your Stuff On This Neon-Lit Dancefloor
Weird vibes in Crank It Up. The action is set on a dancefloor with neon lights and a bequiffed dancer with gold chain and knee high boots appearing to the right of the grid. He crops up in the paytable too. It’s not really a full on rock slot, or a Jammin Jars style pumping disco number so its hard to see which boxes Pragmatic Play were trying to tick here. The overall air of confusion isn’t helped by the oddly lightweight soundtrack with what sounds like ocean waves crashing!
RTP and Variance
Crank It Up! has an RTP of 95.95% at most slot sites. However, Pragmatic Play slots are usually built with more than one RTP rate to give casino operators a choice on how tight they want the game to be. Therefore you may find this one running at lower RTPs at some casinos.
We recommend that you check the RTP for yourself before playing for real to make sure you are getting value for money. You can do this by hitting the ‘I’ link under the reels then scrolling through the pages until you see ‘Game Rules’. On this page you will find the Return to Player. I recommend playing at MrQ from Lindar Media which consistently runs slot at the optimum RTP settings.
Maximum Win
Crank It Up has a maximum win of 10,000x which is about average for Pragmatic Play’s high variance games. That means you can win up to £10,000 with a £1 stake. If you want higher potential then I recommend checking out our list of Pragmatic slots with the highest max wins.
Symbols and Paytable
This is a simple 5 reel, 3 row slot with 20 paylines. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols on a row from left to right starting at the left most reel.
There are 8 pay symbols in the table. Low payers are the cards, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, valued at from 0.25x for 3 Jacks up to 5x for 5 Aces. Premium symbols are represented by the shades, headphones, trainers and mic. These are valued at from 1x for 3 shades up to 35x for 5 mics.
There is also a Wild that lands only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It substitutes for any pay symbol to complete a line but has no pay value of its own.
Features and Gameplay
This is one of Pragmatic Play’s most simple games. There are no extra features in the base game, so it’s all about triggering that free spins round.
Free Spins With Sticky Wilds and Multipliers
You need 3, 4 or 5 of the gold disc scatter symbols to drop which gets you 10, 15 or 20 free spins.
During the feature, when wilds drop they mark their spot on the grid. Next time a wild lands there a multiplier is added to the spot at 2x. The next time it happens the multiplier goes up to 3x, then 5x, then 10x.
At the end of the round, you get a special 3 spin bonus where those positions marked with a multiplier take on a Sticky Wild with the multiplier value built up from the original free spins. Any win line passing through a Sticky Wild has the multiplier applied, and if more than one is involved, the two multipliers are added together.
You can also re-trigger the free spins round by landing 3, 4 or 5 scatters to earn another 10, 15 or 20 more spins. But this can’t be done during the second phase of the round.
Final Verdict
When you kick out 4 or 5 games per month (at least) there will always be a few duds in the mix and Crank It Up! feels like one of those. The production is low quality and spinning 100s of times waiting for the free spins round without any base game features to keep you entertained will be monotonous. It’s possible that the bonus round with its sticky wild multipliers will redeem the game and for that reason high variance fans might be prepared to stick it out, but overall I fear this is one game that won’t stand the test of time.
Testing Notes
I played 250 spins on Crank It Up! on Pragmatic Play’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 100,000
- End balance: 99,887
- Hit Rate: 19.6% (49 winning spins in 250)
- Biggest Win: 49x
- Free Spins Round: 0
Well that went by quickly! I rattled through 250 spins on Crank It Up! in no time and smashed the balance in the process. Like a true high variance game, very little happened for long periods and then out of nowhere a 49x win dropped with a bunch of wilds on the screen. That was the best moment. The win rate was relatively low at less than 20% and I never even got a sniff of the free spins round. The lesson is, tread carefully with this one.
