Theme and Design

Florageddon is a claustrophobic slot from its artwork to its sinister piano soundtrack. The backdrop to the 5×3 reel set is a world in which plant life has choked everything from phone boxes and taxis to walkways and buildings. It’s carnage for sure! Upon those reels are all manner of vicious looking vegetation with evil grins and sharp teeth. Beware, this game can bite!

Like most of Yggdrail’s output its inventive and stirring stuff. A few spins and we were immersed in the twisted atmosphere.

RTP and Variance

Yggdrasil have given Florgaeddon four possible RTP settings: 96.0%, 94.0%, 90.5%, 86.0%. Most UK casinos will run the game at the 94% of 96% setting but its worth checking before you play by opening up the game info screen. We verified the RTP at three UK casinos:

Symbols and Paytable

Florageddon plays on a simple 5 reel and 3 row reel set but utilises a pays both ways mechanic which is tied into the progressive multiplier mechanic as well. Wins can be created by landing identical symbols on adjacent reels, regardless of position, from both left to right and right to left, starting with either the left most or right most reel.

This gives you 243 win ways on any spin.

Symbol values are low. However, keep in mind that this game relies on multipliers to produce good payouts – they are central to the gameplay and can quickly start to drive up your wins once you get on a run.

Low payers are the cards Jack through to Ace with a top payout of 0.5x for five on line. There are also mid-level symbols represented by road signs, street lamps, fire hydrants and clocks, each overrun with voracious plant life. These top out at 0.8x for five on a line. And finally, premiums come as the monster-plants themselves in blue, green, orange and purple. The most valuable of these is a 5x for five on a line.

And there is also a wild that subs in for all others to complete win lines and a bonus symbol that unlocks the free spins round.

Features and Gameplay

At its heart, Florageddon is a Dropdown (Cascading) wins slot with a progressive multiplier feature. Your objective, and the only way to score significant wins because symbol values are on the low side, is to maintain a run of consecutive wins and dropdowns. The longer the run, the higher the progressive multipliers climb, and the more modifiers you can unlock.

So, you start with a simple spin.

If you land a winning combination, then the game pays out, all winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in to replace them, including a GUARANTEED WILD. At the same time, progressive multipliers on either side of the reels come into play.

Scoring a win from left to right will trigger the progressive multiplier on the left of the reels as well as moving it up one place. And scoring a win from right to left will trigger the progressive multiplier on the right of the reels as well as moving it up one place.  Both multipliers start at 1x.

Every Dropdown can bring up another win, and a further increase in one or both (if it’s a win both ways line) progressive multipliers.

There is also a Dropdown counter at the top of the reels which keeps track of how many successive Dropdowns have occurred. Every time you hit four, a modifier is unlocked. A modifier will be either a Multiplier Booster which increases both multipliers by 10x, a Wild Stack which adds three extra wilds in a stack to one reel, Double Wilds give you two wilds instead of one in the next dropdown or an Extra Life which means after the next non-winning Dropdown the board will clear and another drop will happen without re-setting the game.

And that is the basics.

It’s one of those games that can frustrate in a big way as one or two Dropdowns doesn’t earn you much and a each re-set is annoying so progress can be very slow. However, on the rare occasions where you hit four, five, six or more Dropdowns, things get interesting very quickly. The progression of multipliers is something like 1x, 2x, 4x, 11x, 16x, 22x , 29x … so once you get to 7 drops in a row you are up to 29x with a modifier. You can see how that can work well for you.

And of course, there is a free spins round too.

You’ll need scatters to trigger this – 3 scatters for 7 free spins, 4 scatters for 9 free spins and 5 scatters for 11 free spins.  If you’re feeling lucky there is the option to gamble your spins to unlock the next level, but keep in mind that when you do you risk losing the lot, and they don’t come up that often! Gamble from 11 spins and you can get a maximum of 16 spins.

There are two important changes in the free spins round – multipliers DO NOT re-set between spins and modifiers unlock after every THIRD dropdown, not fourth. That is a significantly better configuration as any slots player knows.
