- Super high volatility can make for frustrating times
Theme and Design
The artwork for Galactic Racers Dream Drop is definitely space-age. You’ll enjoy some freaky-looking aliens on the grid, which by the way, is on the back of a nitro-fuelled race car. The buzzing neon background makes this feel like the outer space of the 80s.
However, it’s the stark resemblance to another series that you might notice first. Quickspin’s Cash Truck 3 Turbo (and the previous two releases) both feature the same ‘grid on the back of a car’ idea, but it’s a cool one, so we’ll let it slide.
RTP and Variance
Like most of the other games that have the Dream Drop jackpot feature, Galactic Racers Dream Drop has a pretty low RTP of 94%. This might seem like a bit of a raw deal, but 12% of every single spin goes straight to the jackpot pool. So, those seed values can grow pretty quickly!
In terms of variance, this slot is ranked as high. You could go a long while without hitting a win, which can put off gamers on a budget. If you’re looking for a similarly space age slot with more wallet-friendly variance then Cosmic Rush Dream Drop could be a good alternative.
Maximum Win
You can choose to play the Galactic Racers standard version, which doesn’t allow you to shoot for the progressive jackpot. In this case, the maximum win is 10,000x your stake, which is pretty decent. The same is true for the Dream Drops version, but you also get the opportunity to win the progressive jackpot. The largest progressive jackpot seeds at €500,000 and has a minimum payout of €1,000,000, so you could be in with a chance of seeing a bumper win.
If you’re looking for a slot with an even higher max win (and a similarly great space theme) then you could try Space Miners Dream Drop which has a staggering max win of up to 50,000x your bet.
Symbols and Paytable
Set on a 5 reel, 4 row grid, Galactic Racers Dream Drop is a win ways game that offers 1024 win ways that pay from left to right when at least 3 matching symbols appear. You need them to land on ANY row, on adjacent reels, starting at the left most reel.
The Galactic Racers Dream Drop slot has some pretty unusual symbols, ranging from terrifying/ugly aliens down to token cards. The low value symbols are the token cards, in blue, green, yellow and red. These all pay 0.1x the bet for 3, up to 1x the bet for 5. The premium symbols are seven different alien racers. Pay for these ranges from 0.5x the bet for 3 blue aliens, up to 10x the bet for 5 purple aliens.
You’ll also find the Nitro Bonus wild symbol which substitutes for any pay symbol, as well as the Trophy scatter symbol. If you get three trophies then you’ll trigger the free spins feature.
Features and Gameplay
Galactic Racers Dream Drop has a slightly pared-back approach when it comes to features. The biggest feature of all is without a doubt the opportunity to snag one of those Dream Drops progressive jackpots, but there are a couple of other features to keep things interesting.
Dream Drops
The Dream Drops feature allows you to play for prizes well into the millions. It triggers at random times, asking you to spin the Dream Drops reels to try to score at least one DD symbol per reel. If you do, then the Dream Drop bonus game itself begins - if not, you’ll be sent back to the base game.
The bonus game is played out on a 5x4 grid which you need to fill with DD symbols. Fill up 1, 2, 3, 4 or all 5 reels to land a progressive jackpot. The more reels you fill, the larger the jackpot you win.
The jackpots are seeded as follows:
- Rapid Jackpot = €1
- Midi Jackpot = €5
- Maxi Jackpot = €100
- Major Jackpot = €25,000
- Mega Jackpot = €500,000 (with a minimum payout of €1,000,000)
Multiplier Frames
On any spin at all (in the base game) you can land between one and five Multiplier Frames. Though the range isn’t specified, they went as high as 10x in our tests - and could probably go higher! If you land more than one multiplier at the same time then their values are added together before being applied. In order for a multiplier value to be applied to a win, that win line must go through the frame. So, if you landed a 5x win and it passed through a 3x multiplier, you’d get a 15x payout.
Free Spins Bonus Round
To trigger the bonus round you need to land at least three trophy symbols. The number of trophies that you land depends on the number of free spins, 3 trophies equals 8 spins, 4 trophies for 12 spins and 5 trophies gets you 15. If you’ve also landed multiplier frames then they are carried over into the feature too, helping to boost your wins. Oh - and they’re sticky too!
In addition, on every spin, their multiplier values go up by 1x, so they become more powerful in boosting the wins.
Final Verdict
The highly volatile nature of this slot makes it a better choice for gamers with budget to spare. However, if that’s the case then you’re in for a treat. The non-progressive max win of 10,000x your bet is fairly generous, though there are other titles by Relax Gaming that offer much higher max wins. It’s a shame that there isn’t a little more in the way of features, but with a seriously cool space-age theme and the possibility to land a massive progressive jackpot, Galactic Racers Dream Drop gets the thumb up from us.
Testing Notes
I played 250 spins on Galactic Racers Dream Drop for real money at Casumo. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: £0.2
- Start balance: £971.33
- End balance: £1,116.47
- Win Rate: 18% (45 winning spins in 250)
- Biggest Win: 753.8x
- Free Spins Round: 1
- Dream Drop Game: 0
When a slot has minimal features like this one it can be a very slow play. However, on this occasion Galactic Racers kicked out one big free spins round win for me (753.8x) which offset all the frustrations up to that point. It’s the typical patterns you see in high volatility slots.
Overall, the win rate was 18%, which is a little low. The Multiplier Frames themselves – the only base game feature – showed up frequently, appearing in 70 spins, or 28%. But they weren’t used on every occasion. Nevertheless, when they are used, then they are handy in boosting the many small, under stake-size wins that you get. But the hero event, aside from the obvious Dream Drop game which never triggered, is the free spins round. I got to see what this is made of as I collected 8 multiplier frames with a combined value of 30x by spin 7 of 8, which produced the big win of the round, shown in this screenshot.
Ok, so this will be a rare event, but it shows what Galactic Racers can do on a good day with those powerful, sticky multipliers that combine together. Along with some pretty fun race-track animations, it’s quite the climax.
