I played 250 spins on Cash Truck 3 Turbo on Quickspin’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.

These numbers are fairly typical for a high variance game. A hit rate in the low 20’s % isn’t bad, but I should add a warning that the losing spins had a tendency to arrive in streaks, so you could sometimes go 10 to 12 spins with nothing. As for the main event, one Hold and win round in 250 spins is about what you would expect too. Sometimes this kind of game can take 300 spins or more to trigger, so I wasn’t disappointed.

The base game doesn’t have any extra features, but it doesn’t feel like it needs them. It rattles along at a good pace with great sound effects. And the excitement of the tumble wins mixed with expanding rows is enough to keep you busy. Mostly, you’ll get 1 or 2 tumbles before you hit a dead end and start again. But on 3 occasions I unlocked the full reel area, earning a 3×3 wild as I did which helped trigger some nice payouts. That got me a 12.95x win on the first go and a 15.05x win on the third go. The second time brought up my only Truck Raider Bonus round.

I chose not to gamble for more Expanders before the round started as I didn’t want to risk losing the round. So I went straight in. Success here clearly depends on which special symbols you land. I landed 2 Expanders and 1 2x Booster. Not a lot, but still enough to score a 58.55x win. Things would get really interesting if you landed Turbo Zappers or Boosters which persistently do their thing but it wasn’t to be this time round.

Overall, the balance took a beating – from 5,000 down to 4,873 in 250 spins. However, the gameplay is exciting, and with plenty of tumbles the base game never got boring. And it’s easy to see how this game could really pop on a good day.

In the Cash Truck series Quickspin have followed a dystopian future theme with a Mad Max vibe, not uncommon in online slots. We’ve gone from desert setting to urban in the first 2, and now to a mountain road with dark forest either side, a giant castle in the distance and a huge robot to the left. It’s a night-time setting with the Cash Truck itself taking center stage, rattling along a rocky road. You are directly behind the vehicle, chasing it down with bars of gold visible in the gaps between the reels and rows. It’s as dramatic and atmospheric as you would expect if you’ve played any other Cash Truck slot. Top stuff.

Cash Truck 3 plays out on a 5-reel grid with 7 rows on each. At the start of each base game spin only 4 rows are in play. Landing a winning combinations opens up THREE new positions on the inactive reels, and this process repeats with each win triggered by the Tumble feature too.

The pay mechanic is a win ways one. That means, wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols on adjacent reels, regardless of the row they are on, from left to right starting at the left most reel. That creates 16,807 win ways per spin (7x7x7x7x7x7)

There are 11 symbols in the paytable. The low value ones are the card suits, diamonds, hearts, spades and clubs.  These are all valued at from 0.15x for 3 up to 0.25x for 5 on a win way. Medium value symbols are the knife, grenade and gun, the shock trooper, and the two characters – Kowalski and Doctor Kriegsmann. These are valued at from 0.25x for 3 knives up to 2x for 5 Doctor Kriegsmanns. The highest value premium symbol is Maximillian ‘Max’ Turbo, valued at 1x, 2x or 5x for 3, 4 or 5 on a win way.

The game also has a Wild symbol which substitutes for any other to complete a win way. The wild has no pay value but it does come in a super-sized 3×3 as well as the standard 1×1.

As with all Cash Truck games the objective is to hit that thrilling Hold and Win round. Getting there isn’t easy, but the base game ticks along at a good pace with Tumbling Wins and the expanding grid mechanic helping to keep thing interesting.

Tumbling Wins

The tumbling wins mechanic is present in Cash Truck 3. After each win, winning symbols are removed from the reels and new ones drop in to replace them. If new wins are created then the process repeats. With each win, 3 more spots on the inactive rows are opened up.

When no more wins are created, then the payout is made and the reels re-set with only 4 rows active.

Super-Sized Wild

The 3×3 super-sized wild comes into play when ALL positions on the reels are active. Then, the wild is placed in the center of the grid.

Truck Raider Bonus Game

The Truck Raider Bonus Game is the main event. You need to land 3 or more of the BONUS scatter symbols to trigger this feature. However, if you land just 2 BONUS scatters then all is not lost.

There is a Second Chance feature.

Second Chance To Trigger The Bonus Game

This triggers when after all tumbles are finished, 2 scatters are visible on the grid and provided the super-sized wild has not been triggered. Now, all symbols except your 2 BONUS scatters are removed from the grid and new ones drop in to fill the spaces. This MAY land you another 1 or more scatters to trigger Truck Raider.

Gamble For Extra Expander Symbols

If you landed more than 3 scatters to trigger the round then for each extra scatter you get 1 extra Expander symbol in play. These randomly unlock extra positions from the locked area on the grid.

You can also gamble for more Expander symbols before the round starts. This is only available if you have LESS than 3 Expanders at the start of the round. The gamble is the spin of a wheel. Win, and you get an extra Expander. Lose, and you forfeit the round entirely. So choose carefully.

Bonus Game Rules

Truck Raider is a classic Hold and Win. You have 3 spins to begin, played on a new grid with only special symbols, cash values and blanks. Each time special symbols land on a spin then the number of spins re-sets to 3.  The round ends when no spins are left.

These are the special symbols:

  • Grabber – adds value of all other symbols on the unlocked reel area to its own on landing.
  • Turbo Grabber – adds value of all other symbols on the unlocked reel area to its own on landing as well as when any other symbol lands for the remainder of the round.
  • Doubler – doubles its value each time the counter re-sets to 3 spins.
  • Zapper – doubles the value of all adjacent symbols, and symbols adjacent to those on landing.
  • Turbo Zapper – doubles the value of all adjacent symbols, and symbols adjacent to those on landing, and continues to do so as new symbols land adjacent to the cluster.
  • Booster – adds its value to all symbols on the unlocked reel area on landing.
  • Turbo Booster – adds its value to all symbols on the unlocked reel area on landing and to any other symbol that lands for the remainder of the round.
  • Upgrader – upgrades adjacent symbols when it lands. Cash to Grabber or Booster. Grabber, Zapper or Booster to Turbo.
  • Expander – unlocks 3 random positions on the locked area of the reels.

The Final Verdict

Like movie franchises, the success of a slots series is dependent on both a consistent thread throughout, and elements of originality with each new release. In my opinion, Quickspin have achieved both with Cash Truck 3. Whilst the premise for this slot remains the same, with the introduction of the 3×3 Wild, new Zapper symbols, and the Turbo version of each special symbol in the Hold and Win, we now have a new ‘persistent’ symbol element in the bonus round which can seriously boost your wins and take the game to another level. On top of that we have a significantly improved max win at 40,000x and a compelling new backdrop. In short, this latest version should appeal to both dedicated fans and newcomers to the Cash Truck franchise.
