I played 250 spins on Heroic Spins on Pragmatic Play’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.

Despite its volatility the wins came around regularly enough in this game with a 22.8% win rate which is just over 1 in 4 spins. The expanding wild, which is your only extra in the base game, was a regular feature, popping up around once in every 6 or 7 spins are often producing a win of some kind, usually very small.

But as always it’s all about hitting the free spins round and I managed that just once in 250 spins. The wheel spin to decide how many plays you get adds jeopardy. I got 10 spins with a 6x multiplier which isn’t bad. Plus the expanding wilds are guaranteed to have at least a 2x, sometimes 4x or 6x. The screen shot shows the best spin with a stack of 4x wild multipliers which produced a 30x win in total. That just a taster of what could happen in the bonus round.

In summary, if you like games with lots of multipliers, you’ll enjoy this one. There’s tons of potential and the maths didn’t feel too brutal with regular enough payouts to keep me interested whilst waiting for free spins to drop.

Roman Soldiers, Princesses and One-Eyed Monsters Star In This Quirky Slot

Heroic Spins has an Ancient Roman theme, invoked with 3-d cartoon graphics, and bizarrely also featuring strange one-eyed monsters, lizards and owls in the paytable. The hero himself looks to be the Roman solider standing to the right of the reels. And there is a princess of sorts who perhaps needs saving from the monster. Quite what the owl is for is anyone’s guess, but there is no narrative supplied so you can make up your own! The backdrop is a sun-drenched port with azure blue sea and skies and white stone buildings. It’s not a bad-looking game, if a little random in its design, reminiscent of the kind of things Fantasma or Peter and Sons might create.

There are 10 pay symbols in the table. The lower value ones are the card suits, diamonds, clubs, hearts and spades, and one other weird shape added to make up the numbers! These are valued at from 0.25x for 3 up to 1 for 5. The premium value symbols are the owl, the monster, the treasure chest, the dragon and the princess. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 owls up to 5x for 5 princesses.

There is also a wild, represented by a goat of some kind. It appears only on reels 2, 3 and 4 and substitutes for any pay symbol to complete a payline.

Gameplay is enhanced in Heroic Spins by a combination of free spins, wilds and multipliers. This is how it works.

Expanding Wilds and Multipliers

When a wild lands on the reels it will automatically expand to full reel height every time. And if two or more land on the same reel, when they expand they create a multiplier to be applied to all wilds on that reel. If 2 wilds are involved, that makes a 2x. If 3 are involved, that makes a 3x. And so on.

Any win that passes through any of the wilds on the reel has the multiplier value applied to it. And if more than one wild reel with multipliers is involved then the multipliers are multiplied together. So a 3x and a 2x would create a 6x multiplier.

Free Spins With Bigger Multipliers

The free spins round in this game takes things to the next level.

The round is triggered by landing 3 or more scatters represented by our hero in Roman soldier’s uniform. The number of spins you get is determined by the spin of a wheel. You may get 8, 10, 12, 15, 20, 25, 30 or 50.

The Final Verdict

Despite its unusual theme and mix of characters, Heroic Spins turned out to be an endearing slot to play. The big story here is that this game is built to go off in a big way. That combination of global win multiplier and wild multipliers in the free spins round is crazy. If you can land a few 6x wild stacks and start out with a big global multiplier then you are going to land yourself a huge payout.
