Theme and Design
A Premium-Level African Savannah Slot With Epic Visuals
Majestic Gold Megaways will feel familiar to anyone who played the original – not much has changed in the design and layout. Back in the savannah grasslands the scene is of an epic scale with a gorgeous golden sundown in the backdrop and what looks like an expanse of lake and marsh beneath. To be honest, you don’t get to take in much of the view because it
is obscured by the sizable Megaway reel set that takes centre stage. But overall this does feel like a premium quality African slot with rich graphics, slick reel animations and a very relaxing vibe coming from the serene soundtrack that could just put you at sunset on safari. Immersive stuff indeed!
RTP and Variance
Majestic Gold Megaways has a default RTP setting of 96.17%. That is about average for an online slot but it can increase to 96.85% with the Majestic Bet option.
Like most Megaways games, Majestic Gold is a high variance slot so expect volatility. It can blow hot and cold and certainly has the potential to kick out some huge wins when in the mood.
Maximum Win
The maximum payout from Majestic Gold is a very healthy 50,000x which means it competes with some of the highest paying slots out there. To hit close to that figure you will need to hit a good run of avalanche wins and accumulate a good progressive multiplier in the free spins round.
Symbols and Paytable
Majestic Gold Megaways uses the classic Megaways set up of 6 reels, each displaying between 2 and 7 rows, randomly changing on each spin. These are win ways games which means that they trigger a win when 3 or more identical symbols land on adjacent reels regardless of the row they land on.
That means, at 6 reels each displaying 7 rows of symbols you have 117,649 win ways (or Megaways) in play. The number of Megaways in play on each spin is displayed in the top left of the game screen for reference.
The paytable is made up of 10 symbols, 6 low and 4 high value. The low payers are the cards, 9 through to Ace. These are valued at between 0.1x for 3 9s up to 1.75x for 6 Aces. The premiums are the buffalo, rhino, elephant and lion. These are valued at from 0.25x for 3 buffalo up to 5x for 6 lions.
There is also a Wild that can substitute for any pay symbol to complete a win way. These only appear in a separate 1x4 reel that runs horizontally above reels 2 to 5 on the main set. This is another classic Megaways feature.
Features and Gameplay
iSoftBet haven’t messed with the Megaways formula which is a bit unadventurous in my opinion. There are just a couple of small add-ons to at least provide some differentiation between this and other games in the series.
Cascades Follow Every Win
Central to the gameplay is the Cascading Wins feature. After each win, all winning symbols are removed and new ones drop in to replace them. This can trigger more wins and more cascades. This process repeats until no more wins occur.
Mystery Symbols
These are represented by the moon. They can land on any spin and will all convert into the same pay symbol when they do.
Max Megaways
On any spin, at random, the Max Megaways feature can trigger. This simply guarantees that all reels will land at 7 symbols each to give you the 117,649 win ways.
Free Spins With Progressive Multipliers
You’ll need 4 or 5 scatters to trigger the Free Spins round with 10 or 15 Free Spins awarded.
Now, you start with a 1x multiplier that increases by 1x with each cascade and does not re-set between free spins.
There is a gamble option before the round starts in which you can gamble the number of Free Spins or the Multiplier. If you choose to gamble then you simply spin a wheel and if it lands on a green segment it will increase the number of Free Spins by 1, up to a max of 20 or increase the Multiplier by 1x up to a max of 10x.
The flipside to that is landing in a red segment that ends the round. So be careful.
Golden Lion Transforms Low Paying Symbols
I like this extra feature which is in fact quite powerful. Look out for the high paying gold lion symbols because these are collected in free spins. When you have 20 then you start upgrading animal symbols to the lion.
20 Lions upgrades the buffalo to lion. The next 20 upgrades the rhino to lion. Then the elephant to lion. And with each upgrades, 3 spins are added to your total too.
Gold Bet
If you don’t want to wait so long for the free spins round you can try using the Gold Bet which adds 50% on top of your regular bet. Then, the Free Spins round will be activated by 3 or 4 Scatters instead of the usual 4 or 5. So, 3 scatters gets you 10 spins, 4 gets you 15.
Final Verdict
Though the proliferation of Megaways slots has meant that the novelty has warn off somewhat occasionally you still find a version that has enough unique qualities to make it worth your time. And this is one of them. Production is superb and Majestic Gold builds well on the excellent audio visuals of the original. But it’s the add ons in the gameplay that make it for me. But a word of warning comes with my recommendation to try this game. It is a volatile beast and whilst there is certainly huge potential in the Golden Lion feature in free spins, those big wins will be a rare sighting indeed.
Testing Notes
I played 200 spins on Majestic Gold Megaways for real money at Bacana Play to test the game and this is what happened.
- Stake Size: £0.2
- Start balance: £3.17
- End balance: £19.78
- Biggest Win: 24.15x
- Free Spins: 1
- Session Time: 20 minutes 40 seconds
Despite being a high variance slot Majestic Gold Megaways offered plenty of action over the course of 200 spins. Every feature triggered at least once though the wins were relatively small – Max Megaways (24.15x win), Mystery Symbols (0.6x win), Free Spins (19.15x win).
The best feature by far is the free spins. In this case I didn’t risk gambling for a higher multiplier or more free spins – after waiting 165 spins for it, it didn’t seem worth the risk. During the round trying to collect enough lions to unlock the next level adds jeopardy but I fell just short by 2 and it looks like it would be a tough ask to get far with that, though its clearly where the best payouts come from.
In summary, despite falling short of triggering any big wins Majestic Gold Megaways provided plenty of entertainment and is a stylish and entertaining game.
