I played 100 spins on Mystery Mice to see what the game was like. On paper it doesn’t sound that great with just one feature in the form of the power wilds with countdowns on them. However, once it warmed up, it was pretty fun. The game ran with a nice win rate of 26% which is more than 1 in 4 spins producing a win. And the combination of those power wilds and tumbles means you can hit some really good runs if you get lucky.

For me that happened about mid-way through the session. Ideally, you need a bunch of wilds with high numbers in a cluster. The wilds stick with each tumble and new win clusters form. In this case, it got even better because after hitting a 30x win, 3 scatters landed to move the game into the free spins round. In this feature the wilds stick between spins which is superb of course and the final result was a 135.5x win. We can’t say this will happen every time you play but it is a little taste of what this simple slot can do when in the mood.

The background for the base game is a quiet London street at night time, illuminated by a buzzing streetlight. For the free spins round we move inside Mystery Mouse’s office that’s lined with books and paperwork. It’s definitely taken great inspiration from Sherlock Holmes, but the fact that all of the characters are mice makes this almost unbearably cute.

Tumbles After Every Win

Whenever a win is created the tumble feature begins. The winning symbols are removed from the reels and new symbols tumble into their place. Any new wins that are created are awarded and the tumble starts again until no new wins are made. 

Power Wilds Stick On The Reels

If a poster symbol pops up then this is a wild. Every wild has a clearance level attached to it, which ranges from 1 up to 10. Each time a wild makes a win its clearance level drops by 1. The good news is that as long as a wild has a clearance number, it stays on the grid for subsequent tumbles, dropping down to fill any spaces left by winning symbols. Once a wild’s number gets to zero it is removed in the next tumble.

Free Spins With Persistent Wilds

If you land 3 or more scatter symbols then the free spins round begins with 8 free spins. As well as this, each of the scatters that triggers the free spins round also pays 1x the bet. If you land 2 or more scatters in the round then you get an additional free spin.

The Final Verdict

Mystery Mice is irresistibly cute with flawless graphics and a seamless design. It feels very Sherlock Holmes, but has all the cute-appeal of a Disney movie. Graphics aside there are some fun mechanics at play here, particularly with the power wilds. The free spins round offers great extra value, thanks in no small part to the power up symbols.

The default RTP of 96.49% is strong, though the high volatility might put off some players on a tighter budget. It would’ve been nice to see a larger max win than the 5,000x on offer, but that’s a small gripe on what’s otherwise an entertaining game.
