This short 200 spin session was a window into just how volatile Napoleon Megaways will be. Be ready, because a win rate of under 10% is very rare. It may have just been a bad run or the engine may yet be tweaked before the game goes live, but it felt tight as can be. It felt more so because there aren’t really many features to break up the spins. Its just about those expanding wilds and waiting for the free spins round to trigger. The expanding wilds showed up regularly – I counted 48 over 200 spins which is roughly one in four spins. But of course they often didn’t bring up a win.

The free spins round triggered once, producing what might normally be a reasonable 35.4x win but after burning down the balance so fast I was hoping for more. I landed 3 wilds during the round to upgrade 3 premium symbols but still nothing spectacular happened.

The takeaway is that this is a game for the high variance purists. Blueprint Gaming have done their best to re-create the drama of the Napoleonic battleground here with an epic orchestral soundtrack, intermittent canon fire, smoke drifting across the backdrop and slick illustrations of pistols, soldiers and warships. It’s not a had effort if a little simplistic by the standards of modern slots.

The scatter symbol, represented by the crown with word BONUS written through it is required to unlock the free spins round. You need 3 or more to land at once. That gets you 12 spins and a 2x, 20x, 50x or 100x payout for 3, 4, 5 or 6 anywhere on the reels.

Now the Napoleon Wild symbol has added power. Each time it lands it will cause the lowest value of the picture symbols to upgrade to the next one up. So the drum will become the pistols the first time a wild lands, the pistols become the canon the second time a wild lands, and so on until all picture symbols have become the soldier, worth 20x for 6 on a line.

Of course, this significantly increases your chances of scoring big wins.
