About This Slot

Back in June 2022 volatility specialists Hacksaw Gaming released Outlaws Inc, another high variance game, and one with a unique way of building and triggering high value global multipliers in both free spins and bonus rounds to drive big win sequences.  The game mixes a dark theme – outlaw biker gangs – with comic book cartoon gang members in the form of gurning animals. Fearsome pitbulls and cougars share the reel space with brick bats and knuckle dusters.

Like all Hacksaw Gaming slots, Outlaws Inc looks great but it’s a tough play, as we found out. The promise of progressive multipliers in the 100s and payouts up to 10,000x seemed a long way off but fans of this studio and style of game will no doubt love it.

Boom or Bust? What Happened When We Played Outlaws Inc

I ran Outlaws Inc for a 30-minute session and failed to get any real joy out of the game. For much of the time the wins and game felt sluggish, not helped by the slow and ponderous guitar-based backing track. There was one free spins trigger but it was a short-lived experience with a small win. And whilst we regularly hit Stars that added extra spins to our round, the Cougars and Orcs that build up the global multiplier were rarely seen, although one lucky point I did build up a 50x multiplier and you can certainly see the potential in the game there.

All in, a frustrating experience, but not uncommon for a high-risk Hacksaw game. On the positive side, the graphics and animations as you would expect were top class and its another great-looking game.

For demonstration purposes, we ran a Bonus Buy (not available in UK) on demo mode at the Hacksaw site. Here is how it looks. You can see that there is huge potential here if you hit a lucky run of multipliers and extra free spins, and watching those Star Boxes explode open and land more spins to your total is great entertainment as the round unfolds.

RTP, Variance and Top Payout

Hacksaw Gaming slots have a variable RTP from 96.23% down to 88.47%. At Casumo, where I played, the RTP was set to 94.17%. This is standard for Hacksaw in the UK, and yes, it is under average for slots. The variance is also typical of Hacksaw slots with a 4/5 rating which puts it at the high end. Hacksaw slots are generally very volatile. If you like that kind of maths then you should also try Rotten or Hand of Anubis by this developer.

The top payout is 10,000x – another standard for Hacksaw. They rarely stray from this number.

Spins start at 10p per play.

Symbols and Graphics

The reel set is here is a 5×5 with 26 active paylines in play at all times. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols across a payline from left to right, starting at the left-most reel.

The symbols are all representations of Outlaw violence. Low payers are the brick bats, knuckle dusters, knives and grenades. You can win from 1x up to 2x for five low payers on a line. The premiums are the gang members themselves, including cockerel, eagle, dog and pitbull. They pay out from 5x up to 20x for five on a line.

As standard in Hacksaw games, there is a Wild which substitutes for all other symbols AND triggers wins of 20x when five land on a line.

Look out as well for these special symbols – Cougars, Gorillas, Free Spins and Stars – which trigger the special features in the game described below.

What We Like

  Big global multipliers are achievable
  Fun, animal biker-gang theme
Typical high risk play with big top wins
  Global multiplier sticks between spins

What We Don't Like

Really slow to break down in test

Gameplay and Features

Outlaws Inc is all about multipliers and free spins. The way to score the big payouts is to build up a big global multiplier and a stack of free spins to play. Here is how that is done:

Cougars and Orcs Build Your Global Multiplier

Load up the reels and you’ll see a global multiplier displayed top left. This becomes active when you land Cougars and Orcs. Cougars increase the value by the number they display, and Orcs multiply the value by the number they display.

Cougars have multiplier values of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x, 75x and 100x. Whilst the Orcs have values of 2x, 3x, 4x or 5x.

Gorillas Activate the Multiplier

The job isn’t done until you land a Gorilla on the reels. Then your global multiplier becomes active and is applied to any wins from that spin. And … if more than one gorilla lands then the global multiplier will be applied more than once.

What About Free Spins? You Can Earn These in the Base Game With The Star

There are two types of free spins in Outlaws Inc, each triggered by the Star symbol.

Land ONE Star on a base game spin and you’ll and between 1 and 3 extra spins after the current one. The number of spins is shown in a Star Bar to the right of the reels. Importantly, your global multiplier persists throughout these spins.

Unlock the Bonus Game With Three or More Stars

If you land three or more Stars in the base game you will trigger the free spins with extra features. Here is what you get:

  • 3 Stars gets you 3 spins with the multiplier starting at 1x
  • 4 Stars gets you 4 spins with the multiplier starting at 5x
  • 5 Stars gets you 5 spins with the multiplier starting at 10x

Of course, your multiplier does not re-set between spins. And there are two more special symbols to look out for:

  • Star Boxes open to reveal Star Badges which add between 1 and 7 spins to your total OR Empty Stars which add between and 7 spaces to the Star Bar.
  • Smile Boxes open to reveal a Cougar, Orc or Gorilla.

This one is an easier play with a medium variance but lower top payout of 3,000x. There are Wilds, Splitter Wilds, Free Spins and 5x multipliers to boost your wins. Not as dark as Outlaws Inc, but more fun we think.

Our Verdict

Playing high variance slots is very often a frustrating experience, that is a given. What keeps you playing is the hope that you will unlock one of those big win moments, and also a degree of entertainment from what is happening on the reels when you’re not winning. Outlaws Inc certainly promises much and our bonus round video shows what can happen, but where this game falls a little short is in what happens during the lean times. With a dark background and slow backing track, runs of dry became tedious very quickly. And at the same time, the mix of humorous-looking cartoon characters and dark theme seems jarring.

Ultimately, this isn’t Hacksaw’s most lovable game, though its potential to push out big multiplier wins in the bonus round will still entice many to the reels.

A tough slot that promises a lot but will be very difficult to break down. A lighter soundtrack may have made it easier to enjoy during the dry spells.
