Yggdrasil slots can be tough going when they are volatile and so it proved with RanaRavens WildEnergy. The best thing I can say about this session was the hit rate that came in at 29.6% which isn’t bad. However, the net balance (131.6 down) says otherwise which is an indicator of the low value of all those wins – 74 in 250 by the end of the session.

A 40.7x win in Ragnaravens WildEnergy — A 40.7x win in testing

The best moment was a 40.7x win brought on by a 5x multiplier when both Loki and Thor were on the reels as the same time. Ok, not bad. But for me, things just got too monotonous and overall the gameplay felt too samey throughout to keep me interested.

Epic Mountain Scenery of Fire and Ice in This Norse Game

Yggdrasil invoke the world of Norse mythology – a common slots theme – for this game which features two of the most prominent gods, Thor (hammer, lightning, thunder) and Loki (shape shifter, trickster) who appear in a dual world of fire and ice. Epic mountains and fairy tale castles form the backdrop but there is no narrative to follow. It’s just about taking in the atmosphere, with ethereal soundtrack and strangely colored ravens who swoop in from time to time.

The game area is 6 reels and 3 rows and it is a win way slot which means wins are paid for landing identical symbols on adjacent reels, in any row positions, from left to right, starting at the left most reel. That gives you 729 win ways in total (3x3x3x3x3x3).

But wait … Yggdrasil have double down on that number by making this a win both ways slot, so you can in fact also form win ways starting at the right most reel and working back the other way.

There are EIGHT pay symbols in the game. So, starting at the bottom of the table are the four low payers – king of mystical symbols in green, blue, red and orange. These are valued at up to 0.6x for 6 orange. The higher value symbols are the warrior items – spear, axe, shield and helmet. These are valued at up to 1.5x for 6 helmets.

Ravens Bring Multiplier Wilds

First up are the blue and gold raven wilds that land on reels 2 and 5. They drop with a multiplier figure attached and when they are part of a winning combination, then they trigger a re-spin. The multiplier is applied to any win that the raven wild forms part of AND the multiplier value increase with each successive win.

This feature continues, with the raven wild in place until no more wins are formed.

Warrior Countdown Wilds

Watch for the Norse gods – Thor and Loki – in blue and red that represent the ‘countdown’ wilds. They come with a number of 2, 3 of 4 attached. If they form part of a win then re-spins ensure with the wild locked in. Re-spins continue with each successive win until the number on the countdown wild reaches zero.

Wild Combo Wins

There is a combination feature too if you have 2 multiplier wilds in play when 1 or more countdown wilds land, then the countdown wild gets a multiplier boost at the same time.

RagnaRavens WildEnergy will appeal to those who like the Norse-themed slots for their epic atmosphere, and who have the patience to take on highly volatile games. But whilst there is no doubt that on its day RagnaRavens can go pop, when it doesn’t then it will feel like a real grind.
