Razor Returns
By Push Gaming
Razor Returns is the much anticipated sequel to Razor Shark by Push Gaming and it does not fail to excite! Just like the original game, this slot has a super high max win, this time of 100,000x your stake. Combine this with perilously high volatility and this game feels like a dip in shark infested waters. The 5 reel, 5 row setup allows you to win on 40 paylines and the surprisingly friendly default RTP of 96.55% is honestly unexpected. The Razor Reveal feature has had a makeover too, introducing new ways to win prizes, including collector symbols, instant prizes and plenty more.

Theme and Design
So often famous slot games get a sequel, and so often the developers change very little. However, Push Gaming has flown in the face of all of this. The design stays true to the original, but adds a more menacing mechanical element to the design. Each of the sharks has had some kind of cyber-punk makeover, whilst floating mines bob perilously in the background. If the original game was a little foreboding, this one is even scarier.

The soundtrack is just as brilliant as its predecessor and the crisp, clean design the same quality too. This game hasn’t undergone a radical overhaul, but some time and attention has clearly been spent on developing it a flavour of its own.
RTP and Variance
Just like its predecessor Razor Shark, Razor Returns has sky high volatility, so it won’t suit those on small bankrolls. However, its default RTP of 96.16% is pretty generous, especially when you consider that substantial max win.
It’s also worth noting that the RTP of Razor Returns can change. It’s available with a lower RTP at some casinos, either 96.55%, 95.40%, 94.49%, 90.55%, 88.83% so check for a default of 96.16% before you start. MrQ is a good place to play as they advertise the RTP clearly and usually offer the highest rate. In the UK it is not possible to play with the Push Bet, which does also change the RTP.
Maximum Win
It’s hard to complain about a max win of 100,000x your bet. There are almost no other slots that offer those kind of returns outside of a progressive jackpot. The super high volatility means you could have to weather some prolonged dry spells, but with a tantalising top prize like that, it’s worth it for us.
Symbols and Paytable
This game is played on 5 reels and 5 rows and offers 40 paylines. To win, just match three or more symbols that sit adjacent to one another starting from the first reel.

There are 8 pay symbols as well as a wild and a scatter. The low value symbols are the compass, anchor, periscope and diving helmet which are worth 0.1x the bet for 3 symbols, up to 1x the bet for 5 symbols. The premium symbols are the different coloured sharks which range in value from 0.2x the bet for 3 symbols up to 7.5x for 5 symbols.
Features and Gameplay
As if the features in Razor Shark weren’t plentiful enough, Razor Returns adds a couple of brand new mechanics. Let’s take a look at everything that’s on offer.
Wilds Help Build Wins
The Wild in this slot is the great white shark. It can substitute for any of the pay symbols to complete a payline and make a win. It can also make wins of its own, with 5x wild symbols netting a 12.5x win.
Scatters Trigger Free Spins
The scatter symbol is the torpedo and its function is to trigger the free spins round. Just land 3 or more scatters to start the round. If you land more than 3 scatters then it gets even more interesting. 4 triggering scatters gives you a 5x multiplier to start the game, 5 triggering scatters starts the game with a 25x multiplier.
Mystery Stacks Reveal Powerful Symbols
The Mystery Stacks are seaweed symbols that each hide a mystery. 5-high stacks of these seaweed symbols will land (both in the base game and free spins). When they do, they all open to reveal either pay symbols (all matching), wild symbols, or Golden Shark symbols. If you get pay symbols then the wins are all paid out like normal. If you get wild symbols then these work as normal too. Golden Sharks trigger the Razor Reveal feature which we’ll cover below.
Once wins have been paid out, the mystery stack symbols move down one position, allowing the other symbols to spin like normal. This continues until the mystery stacks are no longer on the reels.

Razor Reveal
If you land Golden Sharks from your Mystery Stack symbols then these trigger the Razor Reveal feature. The sharks turn into spinning wheels that reveal either Instant Prize symbols, Multiplier symbols, Collector symbols, Converter symbols, Nudge Up symbols, or Scatters. Let’s take a look at what they each do:
- Instant Prize: These give you an instant win from 1x to 5,000x your bet. They require a collector symbol to collect the prize.
- Multiplier: Multipliers are applied to any Instant Prize or Collector symbols. They come as either 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x.
- Collector: This symbol collects all Instant Prize symbols and once finished turns into an Instant Prize itself. Once the instant prize symbols have been collected they spin again and any new wins are paid out.
- Converter: The converter spins all of the pay symbols that are currently on the reels. If a pay symbol lands then all pay symbols of that type are changed to the Golden Shark and the feature continues. When the feature ends, all symbols return to their original type.
- Nudge Up: These symbols nudge the Mystery Stacks up by one position. They can only land in the free spins feature.
Gamble Feature
When you trigger the free spins feature you can also opt to gamble for a higher prize. A wheel will appear with some segments displaying No Prize and the remainder displaying higher prizes than those from the scatter symbols. Spin the wheel and see what you get, but keep in mind if you land on No Prize you lose your feature.
Free Spins With Progressive Multipliers
When the free spins are triggered, reel 2 and reel 4 get filled with Mystery Stacks. They nudge down by one position each spin and in doing so fill up the win multiplier. It increases by 1 point for each nudge. The win multiplier is awarded to all wins at the end of each spin. It’s also possible for new Mystery Stacks to land, prolonging the free spins round until no more Mystery stacks are visible.
Final Verdict
It’s so easy for slot developers to just add in a new mechanic and call it a day when designing sequels. This would’ve been especially true for Push Gaming considering the runaway success of Razor Shark - but they didn’t. This slot stands on its own two feet, with some altered mechanics in the Razor Reveal round that keep things feeling fresh.
The huge max win and high volatility are copycats of the original, but that’s clearly what this series of games is always going to be known for. If you’ve got a smaller bankroll then some slightly smaller fish, like Big Bass Bonanza or Fishin’ Frenzy might be a wiser choice. However, if you’ve got a hankering for some colossal wins and the bankroll to back you up, then you’ll love this release.

- Stake Size: £0.1
- Start balance: £957.03
- End balance: £1,027.41
- Hit Rate: 32.8% (82 winning spins in 250)
- Biggest Win: 757.7x
- Bonus Round: 2
Razor Returns didn’t disappoint, eventually kicking out a 757.7x win in the second of 2 free spins round. But before we get there, a word on win rate. In 250 spins the rate felt significantly higher than I experienced playing the original Razor Shark which showed just 22.3%. That might be luck or it might be something in the game maths. But anyway, really this game, like all high volatility slots, is all about the big moments. Most wins are small, with low value in the table. And there’s a reason for that – the free spins round gives you the chance to build huge multipliers that can turn small wins into something much bigger, and it feels like much of the RTP is saved back for this. Because as long as you keep landing Mystery Stacks, then the feature continues, and the win multiplier grows with each nudge. In my case it got as high as 28x and I’d played 33 spins. You only need a few gold sharks revealing some good coin value when you hit that multiplier number to see some good wins in the 100s or more. And that’s just a small taste of what Razor Returns can offer bearing in mind the top win is quoted as 100,000x.

I should say that in one other free spins round I took away just 3.8x so it can go the other way of course. And whilst the win rate was high, there were still some long streaks with no wins. In other words, classic high volatility slot behaviour. But still a great game.
