Theme & Design

Our Score 8

Razor Ways has a dark ocean backdrop with murky waters and kelp plants growing towards the top of the screen. The reels themselves are inside what appears to be a shark cage, but don’t panic, there are plenty of (high paying) sharks that can still get inside. The sharks themselves seem altogether more ‘mechanical’ than in previous games too, adding to the sense of foreboding.

RTP and Variance

Our Score 8

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next.  Read more here.

What is Variance?

Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.

Razor Ways has a solid default RTP of 96.36%. However, you need to watch out because there are three further RTP rates for operators to choose from: 94.32%, 88.21%, and 85.26%. When playing with the default RTP you’re doing well, with an above average figure, but the others really are too low.

The slot combines a pretty decent RTP with medium to high volatility, a slight step down from the previous two instalments Razor Shark and Razor Returns.

Maximum Win

Our Score 9

What Is Maximum Win?

Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.

Razor Ways has a maximum win of 25,000x your bet, which is pretty great considering the slot doesn’t have sky high volatility and does have a player friendly RTP. This max win isn’t as high as its predecessors, but if you’re on a less generous budget and can’t face the swings of Razor Shark then this makes Razor Ways a much more appealing choice.

Symbols and Paytable

Our Score 8

Razor Ways is played on 6 reels and 3 rows (expanding up to 6 rows) and uses winways rather than fixed paylines. Wins are made by landing three or more identical symbols on adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reel.

There are a total of 11 pay symbols, plus 6 further symbols that we’ll discuss in more detail below. The low value symbols are blue, green, purple, and orange ocean plants, which pay up to 0.5x the bet for six of a kind. The premium symbols include a green compass, purple flippers, diving helmet, blue shark, green shark, purple shark, and golden shark, with payouts ranging from 1x to 5x the bet for six.

Features and Gameplay

Our Score 9

Razor Ways is positively packed with features, so the fact that the Nudge and Reveal feature has been removed from previous games doesn’t really matter. Let’s take a look at all of the different mechanics and how they work.

Cascading Wins

Every time you make a win the cascade feature begins. The winning symbols are removed from the reels and new ones drop down into their place. If these new symbols also make a win then they are removed and the cascade continues until no new wins are made.

Wild Symbol

The Wild Symbol is a shark with gold teeth and can substitute for all symbols except the Scatter, Mystery, and Instant Prize Symbols to help make wins.

Expanding Rows

The game begins with 6 reels and 3 rows but expands by 1 row every time a cascade happens or an instant prize symbols lands. The maximum number of rows is 6. When the spin is over it resets back to 3 rows again.

Mystery Symbol

The green seaweed is a mystery symbol and can appear anywhere on the reels at any point during the base game and free spins. It can reveal regular pay symbols, wilds, expanding wilds, converter into wilds, or golden sharks.

Expanding Wild Symbol

If you land a golden octopus then this is an expanding wild. Whenever it appears all positions it covers become wilds and the game grid expands by 1. It can appear when a mystery symbol reveals itself.

If this symbol appears with a multiplier (2x, 3x, or 5x) it applies to every win it is part of. If it appears during the free spins round then it unlocks all rows and covers the entire reel.

Converter into Wild Symbols

If a W symbol lands on the reels (or gets revealed by a mystery symbol) this is a converter into wild symbol. It chooses one normal pay symbol and converts all of that symbol to wilds. Up to two converter into wild symbols can land at once.

Razor Reveal Feature

If you land Mystery symbols on at least 3 consecutive reels at any point in the game then they will turn into Golden Shark symbols and the Razor Reveal feature will begin. Once wins have been made, the cascade feature begins until no more Mystery symbols cascade.

Each golden shark symbol can award one of the following:

  • Instant Prize: between 1x and 5,000x the bet is awarded. It is sticky, remaining on the reels until the feature is over.
  • Multiplier: it’s value is applied to all instant prize and collector symbols before being removed. Can have a value of 2x, 3x, 5x, or 10x the bet.
  • Collector: collects all instant prize symbols, removing them from the reels, but remaining sticky itself for the whole feature.
  • Converter: converts a single symbol type into Golden Shark symbols.
  • Scatter: only lands in base game. Three or more triggers the free spins round.

Free Spins

If you land 3 or more scatter symbols in the base game, or in Razor Reveal then the free spins round begins. The number of scatters you land depends on how the game starts:

  • 3 Scatter Symbols: total multiplier of 1x and 6 reel, 3 row grid.
  • 4 Scatter Symbols: total multiplier of 3x and 6 reel, 4 row grid.
  • 5 Scatter Symbols: total multiplier of 5x and 6 reel, 5 row grid.
  • 6 Scatter Symbols: total multiplier of 10x and 6 reel, 6 row grid.

At any point during the feature the Glowing mystery symbol can appear. If this happens the total multiplier level meter fills up. If you collect 5 you get to the next level. The levels are as follows:

  • Level 1: total multiplier of 1x and 6 reel, 3 row grid.
  • Level 2: 4 additional free spins, total multiplier of 3x and 6 reel, 4 row grid.
  • Level 3: 3 additional free spins, total multiplier of 5x and 6 reel, 5 row grid.
  • Level 4: 2 additional free spins, total multiplier of 10x and 6 reel, 6 row grid.

Push Bet

If you want to increase the chance of landing certain symbols then you can choose the push bet option. Below are the options available:

  • More Scatters: increases the chance of triggerinng free spins, costs 140% of the current bet.
  • More Mystery Symbols: guarantees 2x mystery symbols in every spin in the base game, costs 300% of the current bet.
  • More Scatters & Mystery Symbols: combines both of the above options and costs 400% of the current bet.

The Final Verdict

Yet again, Push Gaming haven’t shied away from changing things up for the third instalment in the Razor Shark series. Removing the Nudge and Reveal feature was a bold move, but considering the plethora of other features, it’s hardly missed. The reintroduction of the Razor Reveal feature was a stroke of genius, helping to cement this game as having some of the best mechanics out there.

The move from paylines to win ways is a welcome change too, that makes things feel easier, even if perhaps they aren’t. The slightly lower top payout of 25,000x the bet might be a consideration for some jackpot chasers, but the friendlier medium/high volatility could earn this slot a new crowd of fans. Overall, Razor Ways is a brilliant third addition to this series.

Useful Tips When Playing Razor Ways

Remember, online slots are games of chance, there is NO strategy that can improve your odds of winning. However, reading our review and following these tips will help you get the most out of your time playing this slot game.

1. It’s All About The Mystery Symbols

Look for those seaweed symbols that reveal bonus features including those all important Golden Sharks.

2. Watch The RTP Where You Play

Some slot sites in the UK run this game at less than 90% which seriously cuts into your winnings. Avoid them!

3. Use Push Bet With Care

The opportunity to increase your bet to give yourself more chance of triggering features is a good one but remember its not a guarantee and it will run your balance down faster.

4. Play At Our Recommended Slot Sites

We have chosen the sites on this page because they all scored high in our reviews and they are licensed by the UK Gambling Commission. That makes them fair and safe places to play slots.
