Snake Arena Dream Drop is an early release in the Dream Drop Jackpot series from Relax Gaming, following hot on the heels of Temple Tumble 2 Dream Drop in June 2022. Like Temple Tumble 2, Snake Arena Dream Drop takes an original game format from Relax, tweaks the gameplay slightly and bolts on the popular progressive jackpots giving players the chance to win the Mega prize which is seeded at over £1,000,000.

Snake Arena Dream Drop is live at all slots sites with Relax Gaming games.

What Our Reviewer Says ...

"Another top class game from Relax mixing entertainment, sophisticated gameplay and big JP potential!"

Overall Score: 7.6

Theme & Design

Our Score 8

Snake Arena is inspired by the Snake mobile phone game that was popular on the old Nokia phones back in the 2000s.

Relax set the scene with an intro video in which Knights in a castle are drinking and partying. In their revelry they unleash a giant snake chained in the corner – why it’s there, who knows? Maybe some the trophy from a hunt? Anyway, during the game, the snake busts out and chases the knights around the 5×5 game grid. As it does, it grows in size, bringing expanded wilds into play and triggering wins. And any time, at random, the Dream Drop Jackpot feature may trigger.  Meanwhile, the artwork for the game is in 3-d, looking down at the castle from above with the game screen in the middle. It’s a simple mix of retro and modern with more than a hint of the video game culture that inspired it.

RTP and Variance

Our Score 8

What is RTP?

RTP (Return to Player) refers to the amount a game will pay out in cash prizes expressed as a percentage of all the money wagered on that game. For example, a 96% RTP means a game will pay out £96 for every £100 wagered. This is an average number and will vary from one session to the next.  Read more here.

What is Variance?

Variance refers to how far a game will deviate from its RTP over time. High variance games deviate a lot and produce uneven win distributions and unexpected windfalls. Low variance games provide a more stable and even distribution of wins. Read more here.

Snake Arena Dream Drop has an RTP of 94% which is typical for the Dream Drop series. It is slightly lower than the average slot RTP but needs to be so as 12% of every bet contributes to the jackpot pool.

This is high volatility game, again in line with all other Dream Drop Jackpot games from Relax Gaming.

Maximum Win

Our Score 7

What Is Maximum Win?

Maximum win refers to the maximum amount a player can win from one spin. It is expressed as a multiple of the stake. For example, where the maximum win is 100,000x, from a £1 stake, the maximum win would be £100,000.

The maximum win outside of the jackpot is just 2,758x which is much lower than all other Dream Drop Jackpot games. Most have a maximum win of 10,000x, although Templar Tumble 2 is notable for its 20,000x non-progressive top payout.

Symbols and Paytable

Our Score 7

Snake Arena 2, like the original, is played out on a 5 reel and 5 row grid. There are 30 fixed paylines in play at all times and wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols across a payline from left to right.

Snake Arena Dream Drop Paytable
Snake Arena Dream Drop Paytable

There are 8 standard pay symbols. The low payers are the four coins – silver, blue, bronze and gold. They pay out 0.2x, 0.7x and 2x for 3, 4 or 5 on a payline. Premiums are the beer mug, ham joint, emerald ring and crown. They pay out up to 20x for five on a payline for the crown.

The Knight and The Snake (all of its body and head) are the Wilds. These will sub in for any other symbol to form a win. By landing BOTH of these symbols on one spin, you will also trigger the Free Spins round.

Features and Gameplay

Our Score 8

The narrative of this game is woven nicely into the features. The snake is always chasing down the knight and if he catches him, will trigger modifiers. Here is how it works:

Wild Chase

This feature is randomly triggered in the base game. The snake and the knight will appear at the top and bottom end of the reel sets. If they appear at either end of the same reel, the snake will dart out, turning the reel wild.

This continues until either ALL reels are turned wild OR the two characters appear at the ends of different reels on THREE consecutive occasions.

Free Spins – With Wild Snakes and Knights

If you land the Snake Head AND the Knight on one spin, the free spins round is triggered.

For every spin, the Knight drops into one random position on the grid. When the spin is completed and all wins paid out, then the snake will move around the grid towards the Knight, eat him, and in doing so, grow one cell bigger. This replicates the mobile phone game.

Extra free spins are given out for each time the snake eats the Knight.

And … the Snake AND the Knight count as wilds for every spin.

The round ends when the Snake runs out of space OR fills the entirety of reels 2 to 5. At this point you would trigger a 1,000x payout.

Dream Drop Jackpots

This version of Snake Arena includes the Dream Drop Jackpots from Relax Gaming. The execution is slightly different from other versions.

First, Dream Drop Jackpot Spins are awarded at random during the game. A new reel set is used and only DD symbols and stone blocks land. You get one spin. If FIVE DD symbols land, you’ll enter the Dream Drop Jackpot stage where you are GUARANTEED to win one of the FIVE jackpots available.

Rather than a reel set, the jackpot win is determined by a prize wheel instead. Each segment represents a jackpot. The seed amounts are as follows:

  • Rapid:£1
  • Midi:£5
  • Maxi:£100
  • Major:£25,000
  • Mega:£1,000,000 *

*The seed value for the Mega Jackpot started at £500,000. It increases by £500,000 after every second win. This will continue until it reaches a maximum of £10,000,000.

The Final Verdict

Snake Arena was another clever creative concept from Relax Gaming the first time round and its worthy of a re-boot for the popular Dream Drop series. The features here remain as compelling. The Wild Chase can unlock some nice wins, particularly if you can turn 3 or more reels Wild. But the better payouts come from the Free Spins round which is really just a variation on expanding wilds. Here the expanding snake slithering over the reels and eating the knights is fun to watch and adds a level of jeopardy as you get closer to filling the full reel set and unlocking that 1,000x prize.

As far as numbers go, the top win of 2,758x is disappointingly low, as is the 94% RTP, and if you are not interested in playing for a progressive – and not everyone is – then I would recommend hitting up the original instead which at least gives a higher return of 96.25% with pretty much the same gameplay.

But if you are interested in chasing down the big money, then Snake Arena Dream Drop is a great place to do it, offering a good mix of humour, retro-styling and unusual gameplay alongside your multi-million GBP prizes!
