Escape To The Beach At Sunset In This Great-Looking Slot
This is a great game to relax with and dream about your summer holidays. Perhaps inspired by the 80s film starring Tom Cruise – the logo certainly matches that in the movie - the setting is a Caribbean island somewhere at sunset, the waves lapping against the shore and a suitably chilled soundtrack with pipes and drums providing backing. The reel set is framed by bamboo and palm trees sway to the sides. And the cocktails on the reels look pretty tasty too. Overall, the laid back vibes are very nice though at odds with the high volatility in Strawberry Cocktail.
RTP and Variance
Strawberry Cocktail has an optimum RTP setting of 96% but as anyone familiar with this studio will tell you, that isn’t the end of it. They also developer versions with lower RTPs – in this case 95% and 94%. Whilst there is not much to choose between these, its always better to play at the optimum RTP. That is why I recommend choosing MrQ casino run by Lindar Media. In my experience they always run Pragmatic Play slots at optimum level. The max payout is 16,000x which is a really good number for a Pragmatic Play slot. Although they have produced some very high max win games in the past, they usually settle for around 5,000x to 10,000x so I’m impressed with this figure.
Symbols and Paytable
The game configuration in Strawberry Cocktail is nice and easy. There are 5 reels, each displaying 3 rows, with 10 paylines. You’ll need to land 3 or more identical symbols across the reels form left to right, starting at the left-most reel, to trigger a win.
Pay symbols have very impressive value at the top end. The low payers are the card suits, diamonds, hearts, clubs and spades. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 diamonds up to 15x for 5 spades. The premiums are the 3 drinks, green and yellow cocktails, and the strawberry cocktail. These are valued at from 2x for 3 green cocktails up to a crazy 1,000x for 5 strawberry cocktails.
The Wild symbol appears on every reel in this game and will substitute for any other pay symbol to complete a payline as well as paying out the same values as the Strawberry Cocktail symbol at 20x, 100x or 1,000x for 3, 4 or 5 on a payline.
Features and Gameplay
Aside from the Wilds there is only one other feature in this game, triggered by the Bonus symbol which is represented by the game’s logo. This can appear anywhere on the reels.
Match Symbols Across A Board Game and Mini Reel
You need 3, 4 or 5 Bonus symbols to land and the action moves to a new mini reel with 3 reels and 1 row, surrounded by a game board with 26 spaces. When the game starts, the mini reel spins and reveals 3 pay symbols (same symbols as the base game), at the same time one symbol is revealed on one space in the board. You need to match the symbol on the board with at least one of those on the reel to trigger a prize.
Symbol values are as follows:
- Diamond: Match 1 symbol for a 2x prize
- Club: Match 1 symbol for a 3x prize
- Heart: Match 1 symbol for a 5x prize
- Spade: Match 1 symbol for a 10x prize
- Green Cocktail: Match 1 symbol for a 20x prize
- Yellow Cocktail: Match 1 symbol for a 30x prize
- Strawberry Cocktail: Match 1 symbol for a 50x prize
When the symbol on the board matches 2 symbols on the mini reel these values are multiplied by 3x. When there are 3 matches, it is multiplied by 10x.
Progressive Win Multiplier
This bonus feature also comes with a progressive win multiplier which starts at 1x and double for every 4 spins.
Round Ends When An Exit Sign Is Revealed
The round only comes to an end when the symbol revealed is an Exit sign. The number of Exit signs on the board depends on how many Bonus symbols triggered the game. With 5 Bonus symbols there is just 1 Exit sign, with 4 Bonus symbols there are 3 Exit signs, and with 3 Bonus symbols there are 4 Exit signs.
Final Verdict
Strawberry Cocktail looks like a straight-forward 5x3 slot with a nice backdrop and laid back soundtrack, but once you start playing it soon reveals itself to be a dangerous high risk game with a very powerful bonus feature. There is no getting around the fact that the base game is hard work, but it’s worth it once you break into the mini reels-board game phase. It’s an interesting bonus feature because there are multiple triggers for each win – the outer board, the mini reel and the multiplier. A good run could see things escalate very quickly and that’s what we love about these games. To conclude, with original features and plenty of potential, this is another very good game from Pragmatic.
Testing Notes
I played 300 spins on Strawberry Cocktail on Pragmatic Play’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.

This test session revealed some interesting things about Strawberry Cocktail. Firstly, it appears to operate on a very low hit rate – just 14.6% over 300 spins for me. That is lower than average, and at times it felt lower as 10 or more spins went by without any wins on several occasions. When they did drop however, the wins weren’t bad, rarely less than stake value, with a 24x and a 17.5x amongst them.
The flipside to the low hit rate was 3 bonus rounds, one in every 100 spins. That feels more generous than many Pragmatic slots and suggests that the payouts in Strawberry Cocktail are weighted very much towards that bonus feature. This is not uncommon for a high variance slot, but it felt even more pronounced in this instance. Similar in fact, to Big Bass Floats My Boat, which had a 12% hit rate and 5 free spins rounds in just 200 test spins.
As far as overall RTP goes, this was also a very lucky session. I ended up £173.95 up, with wins of 131x, 153.5x and 73x in those Bonus rounds. It’s a feature pure high-risk gamblers will love. It looks great and there is plenty of jeopardy as the game progresses because the more spins you take, the higher the multiplier grows. And of course, if you match 2 or 3 symbols on the mini reels with the one on the outer game board, you have an extra multiplier in play (3x or 10x) which adds further intrigue to each spin.
To conclude, Strawberry Cocktail has the characteristics of a classic high variance game, but with an even lower hit rate than usual. I would play this with low stakes and all my focus on triggering that Bonus round because that’s where the big money is. If you pick up a lucky win in the base game, better still, but don’t hold your breathe.
