Sugar Rush 1000 is a high variance cluster pays slot from Pragmatic Play. It is the sequel to Sugar Rush, coming with a high RTP at 97.5% and a super-boosted max win at 25,000x. The gameplay is much the same with Tumbling Wins and Progressive Multiplier Spots to boost payouts in the base game. But it’s the free spins round where things can go really epic. Multiplier Spots are persistent between spins, growing as high as 1,024x and the round can retrigger to give you up to 30 more plays.

I played 250 spins on Sugar Rush 1000 on Pragmatic Play’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened. This was a free-money session.

Sugar Rush does everything you want it to. It kicks along at a fast pace with a high enough hit rate – 26.4% in this session – to keep things interesting and regular sequences of 2 or 3 tumbles where you build up a few multipliers spots on the grid and occasionally land a win of upwards of 10x, or in my case on one lucky spin, 170.2x (see the screenshot) where I had an 8x and 16x multiplier in play. There were also 2 or 3 occasions where I went 8 or 10 spins with no wins, so it can be tight at times, but that was the exception, not the rule.

The free spins round promises a lot with persistent multiplier spots, but on this occasion it didn’t really deliver. It triggered just once in 250 spins. That’s not uncommon to be fair, but you expect a good reward when you wait that long. During the round I built up 16 multiplier spots, including one 16x, shown in the screenshot, but still only came away with a 31.1x win. Nevertheless, you can see the potential here from a lucky spin at the end of the round when all those multipliers are active.

Overall, this was a fun 250 spins and with its better max win and RTP numbers, I’d take this version over the original every time.

Another Sugar-Coated Wonderland To Dive Into

Pragmatic Play have not done much to adjust the look in Sugar Rush 1000 with the same ultra-high sugar content across the screen as you see in the original. It’s an onslaught of pinks, purples and reds and tons of jelly babies, gummy bears, icing and candy floss that will give you a sugar high just from looking at the game. If you enjoy your Sweet Bonanza and Sweet Alchemy slots then you’ll be happy with this one too.

The game plays out on a 7×7 grid. You’ll need to land clusters of 5 or more identical symbols in that connect horizontally or vertically in order to trigger a win. The exciting part about cluster pays of course is the chance of landing bigger and bigger clusters to set up huge payouts. In Sugar Rush 1000 the highest paying clusters are made up of 15 or more symbols.

There are 7 symbols in all. They are orange, purple and red gummy bears, a green star, a pink jelly bean, an orange heart, and a pink circle. They are valued at from 0.2x for 5 of the lowest paying gummy bears up to 150x for 15 or more of the top value pink circle.

There are no wilds in the game but there is a scatter symbol represented by the sweet dispenser. This does not have any pay value but does unlock the free spins. More on that in the next part of our review.

The max payout and RTP might have been given a boost but the gameplay follows the same format as we find in Sugar Rush with tumbles, multipliers and free spins to boost your wins.

Tumbling Wins

This familiar feature triggers after EVERY win in base game and bonus round. Winning symbols disappear from the grid, existing ones drop down into the spaces left behind, and new symbols drop down onto the grid from above to fill the remaining gaps. Where further wins are triggered, the process repeats, and so on, until no more clusters are formed.

Multipliers Spots

If you’ve played Sugar Rush you will know all about the multipliers. In a sequence of tumbles, the second time a symbol is removed from a spot on the grid because it forms part of a winning cluster, then a 2x multiplier is activated on that spot. Each time a symbol landing on that spot forms part of a cluster and disappears, the multiplier increases by 1x.

These multipliers can grow as high as 1,024x and are applied to any winning cluster that covers the spot. When more than one multiplier is involved in a win they are added together first before being applied to the total payout value.

Multipliers keep growing until the current sequence of tumbles ends, then the whole grid re-sets.

Free Spins With Peristent Multiplier Spots 

If you’re wondering how to get close to that 25,000x max win, then think about the free spins round. The gameplay is the same as the base game but with one significant difference – the multiplier spots described above are now persistent. That means, they do NOT re-set between spins, but just keep on growing every time a winning cluster covers the spot.

You’ll need to land 3 or more of those Sweet Dispenser Scatters to trigger the feature, with 10, 12, 15, 20 or 30 spins awarded for 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7 scatters landing on one spin. And it is possible to re-trigger the spins with the same number of scatters as well.

In short, if you land 30 free spins and start growing some nice multipliers across the grid then the potential here is huge.

The Final Verdict

Sugar Rush 1000 is a sequel that doesn’t mess too much with the formula of the game that inspired it, and in my opinion that is a good thing. The gameplay is superb, with a simple mix of tumbles and progressive multipliers to accelerate wins and provide the gamblers equivalent of the sugar-hit represented by all those sweets in the paytable. This, combined with a good hit rate, and those super-powered RTP and max win numbers, mean the original Sugar Rush will surely become redundant now. Top stuff!
