I played 250 spins on Sultan Spins on Relax Gaming’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.

This was an unusual session. The hit rate was quite low – under 20% and just 43 wins in 250 spins – but after an uneventful 160 spins in the space of 20 spins the free spins round dropped 3 times. That’s just high variance slots play for you. Ultimately the wins weren’t huge – 9.6x, 5.4x and 25.1x in fact – but it’s a fun feature and the level-ups add jeopardy to the experience. I unlocked the second level on my first go, bringing in the 2x multiplier and 7 more spins. But that was as far as I got. You can see that in this screenshot.

The biggest payout of all was a 30x from a base game spin with a bunch of gold trainers – shown below. It brings up a nice animation of the sultan waving wads of cash.

Other highlights including a few Wild stacks that show up when gemstones transform into wilds, a nice surprise that can trigger some good wins. But as for those local progressives – they didn’t trigger once. I didn’t even get a jackpot spin.

So, altogether a mixed bag, but what appears to be a simple game on paper turned out to be more entertaining than I first thought with plenty of action and nice visuals.

Gleaming Bling-Heavy Gulf-State Vibe In This Game

Sultan Spins is rocking the stereotype of Gulf State wealth, a picture you’d expect to find if you chose to holiday in Dubai or Quatar. Tall, elegant building strut their stuff in front of a shimmering shoreline, whilst a gold-plated reel set sits center stage, stacked with bling-y symbols of wealth all made of gold, like speedboats and 4x4s. The hero character is a grinning dude in headdress with goatee and shades (made of gold, of course!). The design style is typical Relax Gaming so it’s clean and sharp. It’s a simple slot with a simple production style, and if you like thinking about landing a big wad and heading out to Dubai for your hols, here is a good place to start.

The gameplay in Sultan Spins is simple. It’s all about small, local progressive jackpots and free spins with level-ups and multipliers. Here is how it works.

Local Progressive Jackpots

Above each reel is a jackpot ticker, displayed under a colored gemstone. From left to right they are silver (starts at 5x, must be won by 25x), green (starts at 50x, must be won by 50x), red (starts at 1,000x, must be won by 250x), purple (starts at 250x, must be won by 1,250x),  and blue (starts at 10x, must be won by 5,000x). Landing a matching-colored gemstone symbol on the reel under a jackpot ticker increases its value by the stake amount.

Once a ticker has updated then the gemstone symbol transforms into either a wild or a pay symbol, OR it triggers a Jackpot Spin.

The jackpot spin plays out on a mini reel set and once the prize has been re-set then the jackpot reverts to its starting value. 

Free Spins With Level Ups and Multipliers 

The free spins round is unlocked by landing the Tiger bonus symbol. These land on any reel and you’ll need 3 or more on one spin to unlock the round. That gets you 7 spins with a 1x multiplier. The Final Verdict

One of the interesting things about Relax Gaming is their ability to produce lots of games of quite different natures. Sultan Spins certainly has nothing like the sophistication levels of Dead Man’s Trail gameplay, or the brutal variance of a Money Train game, but despite being simpler than other Relax slots it is still an interesting play with plenty of potential for big moments. The best stuff will probably happen in the free spins round if you can get on a run with a few levels up to bring in those multipliers. But whilst the local progressive are an interesting side-act, I suspect you will be waiting a while to unlock one of those. Overall, a good game with quality production style and some interesting, if simple, gameplay.
