The Flintstones
By Blueprint Gaming
The Flintstones is a cartoon slot from Blueprint Gaming based on the popular TV show of the 1960s set in the prehistoric town of Bedrock with two families - Fred and Wilma Flintstone, and Barney and Betty Rubble. During the game Cash Collects are triggered by landing Fred symbols on reel 5. This also progresses a trail in which more powerful Cash Collect symbols are unlocked to boost your payouts. In the free spins round another trail becomes active with extra spins and multipliers. Top win is 10,000x and spins start at 10p.

Theme and Design
An Nostalgia Trip With Barney And Fred
You can’t really go wrong with a brand like this one can you? The tools are all there to design a brilliant slot – iconic characters, an upbeat narrative, recognisable catch phrases and top soundtrack. If you’re a fan of The Flintstones you’ll love it. It’s a real nostalgia trip. And even if you haven’t met them before, chances are you will enjoy it too.

RTP and Variance
The Flintstones has one fixed RTP of 95%. That is under the accepted ‘average RTP’ for online slots which is around 96%. However, keep in mind that this is a fixed RTP so you will always play at that rate wherever you play. Some games now have more than one RTP and it is not uncommon for UK slot site operators to run popular slots at 92% or less. So in that sense, 95% ain’t bad.
The volatility of The Flintstones slot is medium-high, so not as volatile as Blueprint’s most unpredictable games, but a tough cookie nonetheless.
Maximum Win
The top win here is 10,000x. You can win £10,000 with a £1 stake. That’s not bad, but Blueprint have produced many slots with much higher potential like Ted Megaways (50,000x) or The Goonies Return (also 50,000x).
Symbols and Paytable
The game format is simple with 5 reels, 3 rows and just 10 paylines. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols across a line from left to right starting at the left most reel.

There are 8 pay symbols in the table. The low value ones are the cards, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, valued at from 0.5x for 3 Jacks up to 7.5x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the characters – Betty, Wilma and Barney, and the Flintstones logo. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 Bettys up to 100x for 5 of the logos.
There is a wild too, represented by the Dinosaur. This has no pay value of its own by does substitute for all pay symbols to complete paylines. It only appears on reels 2, 3, 4 and 5.
Features and Gameplay
Blueprint like to pack their branded slots with plenty of features to please their fans and The Flintstones is no exception. There are cash collects, a progress trail with modifiers and the free spins round. Here is how it all works:
Random Yabba Dabba Doo! Modifiers
It had to be that didn’t it! This feature can trigger randomly at ANY time in the game to set up one of 2 modifiers.
In a Bonus Boost additional bonus symbols are added to the reels. Or, in Dino Wilds, extra Wilds are added to the reels.
Cash Collects and the Fred Symbol
If you were wondering where Fred Flintstone had go to, now you know. He drops onto reel 5 on some spins to activate the Cash Collect feature. This requires cash symbols – money bags displaying cash values – to drop onto reels 1 to 4 at the same time.
NOTE: If you land a Cashpot symbol at the same time as Fred, you’ll collect one of the jackpots displayed to the left of the reels: Mini (10x), Minor (25x), Major (100x) or Mega (2,000x).
As well as activating cash prizes, Fred symbols expand to full reel height and are collected and added to the trail that is displayed above the reels. At various points along the trail, different versions of the Fred symbol are unlocked, each with more powerful features until ALL are in play and can land at any point.
Lock and Collect (position 2 on the trail): each time a Lock and Collect Fred lands on reel 5 with money symbols on reels 1 to 4 those money symbols lock in place for a re spin. If more land, then the process repeats. And so on, until no more money symbols land. Then all values are collected and paid out.
Boost Collect (position 5 on the trail): each time a Boost Collect Fred lands with money symbols on reels 1 to 4 their values are boosted first before the collect is made.
Max Collect (position 9 on the trail): each time a Max Collect Fred lands with money symbols on reels 1 to 4 the value of the highest value money symbol is awarded to all other money symbols before the collect is made.
Super Collect (position 14 on the trail): each time a Super Collect Fred lands with money symbols on reels 1 to 4 the value of those money symbols is collected up to 5 times over.
IF you reach position 14 on the trail then the Super Spins Bonus symbol becomes active on reel 4.
NOTE: Fred symbols active in the base game are carried over into the free spins round too.
Free Spins With Multipliers
The scatter symbol in The Flintstones is a picture of Fred and Barney with the word Bonus written across it. You’ll need 3 or more of these to unlock the free spins round. They only land on reels 2, 3 and 4.
You start with 10 spins with Fred Cash Collects carried over from the base game but a new trail is now displayed above the reels. Landing Fred symbols triggers cash collects in the same way and progresses the trail, unlocking more spins and multipliers as you go:
- 3 Fred symbols: 5 more spins and a 2x multiplier applied to all cash collect wins
- 6 Fred symbols: 5 more spins and a 3x multiplier applied to all cash collect wins
- 9 Fred symbols: 5 more spins and a 5x multiplier applied to all cash collect wins
- 12 Fred symbols: 5 more spins and a 10x multiplier applied to all cash collect wins
Super Spins With GUARANTEED Freds!
If you complete the trail in the base game then you activate a Super Spins Bonus symbol on reel 4. This is your chance to enter the Super Spins Bonus round IF 2 standard scatters land at the same time as that Super Spins Bonus symbol.
You get 5 spins in this feature where it is GUARANTEED that one of the Freds will land on each spin. Each one can only land once, so once the 5 spins are up, each of the Freds will have appeared once.
Final Verdict
As I said earlier in this review, you can’t really go wrong with The Flintstones brand - it’s so upbeat and fun - and consequently this is a really entertaining slot. And as usual Blueprint have packed the game with features so there is always something going on, whether it’s a cash collect landing or a Yabba Dabba Do modifier appearing. There is also clearly room for this game to really pop at times with those Super Collects and that free spins round with multiplier trail. The caveat is that it is also a tough game to break and its variance is definitely on the high side of medium-high. So, if you decide to play, then tread carefully as you go!
Testing Notes
I played 250 spins on The Flintstones on Blueprint Gaming's test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 1,000
- End balance: 899.5
- Hit Rate: 18.4% (46 winning spins in 250)
- Biggest Win: 33x
- Free Spins Round: 0
The thing about trails like the one in The Flintstones is that they do a great job of keeping you playing as you try to unlock the next more powerful feature in the sequence. But it takes time. In 250 spins I eventually landed 12 Fred Collects. That unlocked 3 extra features including the Boost Collect which brought up my biggest win – a 33x where 5 money bags were boosted before being collected up. You can see that in the screenshot. That was a nice moment but it took close to 200 spins to get there! Along the way l saw lots of smaller wins but nothing spectacular. There were 3 random Yabba Dabba Do moments with extra wilds, but those maxed out at 5x. And I didn’t get a sniff of the bonus round.

In short, it wasn’t a fruitful session and enough to see that The Flintstones is a volatile play. The win rate was under 20% with just 46 winning spins too. So, the lesson is, set your stake low as you try to tease out those big moments. It may take some time!
