About This Slot
Alpha Eagle is a Hacksaw Gaming slot released in September 2022. It is the second, after Buffalo Stack n Synch, to utilise their Stack n Synch feature where up to five reels can all synch with the same premium or wild symbol. Hacksaw Gaming’s profile has been growing over the last two years thanks to innovative, high variance game releases like Pug Life, Undead Fortune and Time Spinners.
Alpha Eagle is set amongst an epic backdrop of snowy, rocky mountains and has a nice synthy-backing track to keep you entertained whilst you try to land SnS symbols to synch as many reels as you can.
Boom or Bust? What Happened When We Played Alpha Eagle
I played Alpha Eagle at Casumo for real money at 10p per spin. This is what happened.
- Session Time: 50 minutes
- Bet Size: 10p
- Start Balance: £149.81
- End Balance: £99.29
- Net Win / Loss: –£50.52
- Biggest Single Win (excl. Free Spins): £1.66 (16x)
- Biggest Losing Streak: 20 spins without a win
- Free Spins Round Feature Triggers: One
- Biggest Free Spins Round Win: £1.28
- Eagle Link Triggers: One
- Biggest Eagle Link Win: £0.70
It was bust for me! Alpha Eagle showed itself to be a true high variance game. In 50 minutes I unlocked the free spins round just once and the Eagle Link bonus once resulting in wins of just 12x and 7x respectively.
However, the Stack n Synch feature was a regular occurrence and this at least keeps thing interesting. You want reel one to be one of the synched reels because all paylines start there and it gives you a better chance of scoring a win that way. I had all of reels 2 to 5 synched a few times but without a win because reel one didn’t match up. Despite the frustration the animations when the reels synch are pretty cool and there is a lot of anticipation as you wait to see what will land.
But the most dramatic stuff is left for the Eagle Link round. Despite only winning a pitiful 7x, the visuals and sounds at this point add new tension to the game. And this is where you best potential wins come in. With only 2 Golden Eagles on the reels my global multiplier only hit 2x, but you can see how this round could escalate hugely if more dropped and you formed more links. You also want to start the payout part of the round with as many golden eagles carried over from the collect phase to maximise your wins.
In summary, Alpha Eagle looks like a slot with massive potential but sadly one that didn’t reach the heights I was hoping in testing. Nevertheless, it’s a game I would come back to again.
Here is a highlights video from our testing including free spins and Eagle Links bonus rounds.
More About Alpha Eagle Slot
RTP, Variance and Top Payout
Like all Hacksaw Gaming slots, Alpha Eagle has four RTP settings – 96.26%, 94.31%, 92.25%, or 88.20%. Which one you play at will depend on the site you are playing on. At Casumo, where I played, the RTP is 94.31%. This is under average for the UK where most slots run at around 96%. You can find the RTP value by scrolling down the page in the information screen after you load up the game.
Like most Hacksaw slots, Alpha Eagle is a high variance game and will run with a very uneven win distribution but the potential to bust out some huge wins on a good day. Other high-risk slots by Hacksaw that you might want to try include Hand of Anubis and the recent, Rotten.
Spins start at 10p per play.
Symbols and Graphics
Alpha Eagle is a 5 reel and 4 row game with 20 fixed paylines. You need to hit three identical symbols in on a payline from left to right, starting on the far-left reel, to trigger a win.
Low pay symbols are the cards, 10 through to Ace. Five on a payline deliver wins of between 2x for 5 10s up to 3x for 5 Aces. High payers are the wildlife symbols including eagles, features, fish, eggs and owls. They are worth between 7.5x for five features on a line, to 25x for five eagles on a line. There is also a Wild that will substitute in for all others in the paytable and pays out 25x when five land in a line.
Look out as well for the two Stack n Synch symbols – an SnS and a Golden SnS, as well as the Free Spins represented by a FS. All of these will trigger special features.

Gameplay and Features
There are four features in Alpha Eagle. Here is how they work.
Stack n Synch – Synch Up to FOUR Reels
Hacksaw’s unique feature triggers when you land an SnS symbol ANYWHERE on the reels.
The reel on which the SnS landed gets copied onto 1, 2 or 3 other reels and synched stacks of identical symbols appear on each one. Stacks may be 2, 3 or 4 symbols high. Once synched, your re-spins start. Any symbols, including FS and Wilds can be stacked.
You can land more SnS symbols on the re-spin and synch more reels and tigger more re-spins each time.
Golden Stack n Synch – All FIVE reels Synch
It is possible to synch all five reels by landing the very rarely seen Golden Stack Symbol (golden SnS). Not only are you now looking at five synched reels, but you also only get premium or wilds in these stacks.
And finally, you also get a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 10x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 100x applied to your re-spin wins. That is HUGE!
Up to 20 Free Spins
You can only unlock the free spins round through Stack n Synch, not on normal base game spins. When you do, free spins are awarded for landing three or more FS scatters. One spin is awarded for every FS that lands, up to a maximum of 20 free spins.
The game is configured to give increased odds of hitting SnS or Golden SnS symbols during free spins round.
Two Part Eagle Link Feature With Collects and Payouts
Eagle Link is another bonus game in Alpha Eagle. This one requires you to land three Eagle Claws to trigger. In this game only Eagles, Golden Eagles and non-paying symbols will appear on the reels.
The collect phase is simple: you get 3 spins during which Eagles and Golden Eagles are sticky. On each spin where a least one lands then the counter re-sets to 3. Go 3 spins without an Eagle landing and the collect phase ends and you move to payout.
In the payout phase, links are created starting from the Golden Eagle symbols on the grid. They link to adjacent Eagle symbols which in turn link to other adjacent Eagle symbols to form chains. Any eagles on the grid that are NOT adjacent to linked eagles are removed before the payout is calculated.
There is also a Golden Eagle multiplier that is applied to your Eagle Link win. This multiplier is equivalent to the sum of Golden Eagles on the reels
More Games Like Alpha Eagle Slot
Buffalo Stack n Synch by Hacksaw Gaming – The most obvious slot for comparison here is Hacksaw’s first SnS slot, Buffalo. It has the same maths model – high variance, 5×4 reel set and 10,000x top win, but plays on just 10 paylines rather than 20. It has a similar wildlife theme but utilises an additional Stampede feature where stacks of Buffalos merge and take on a massive multiplier of up to 100x. It’s worth a spin if you enjoy Alpha Eagle.
Rotten by Hacksaw Gaming – If you enjoy high variance slots from Hacksaw but want something other than stack n synch then we recommend another recent release from them – Rotten. This horror slot proved itself to be super-volatile in testing and gave us a tough ride. However, the zombie theme and spooky graphics made for a compelling experience. And you can fill the entire screen with the highest paying scary Clown symbol in the Total Takeover round.
