Big Bass Halloween
By Pragmatic Play
Big Bass Halloween is a seasonal version of the classic fishing slot from Pragmatic Play. The fisherman hero has turned psychopath (!) and we’re out casting for bass at night, but the gameplay remains the same. Hit the free spins round to start unlocking cash prizes when money fish symbols and wilds land at the same time. Collect 4 or more wilds to fill the meter and extend the round by 10 spins whilst growing your multiplier to up to 10x. Max win is 2,100x and spins start at 10p.
This addition to the Big Bass series was released in October 2023.

Theme and Design
One Of The Cheeriest Slots Takes A Dark Twist
Fans of the Big Bass series will know by now that Pragmatic like a good seasonal version as with Christmas Big Bass, or to mash the theme up with another, as with Secrets of the Golden Lake. But this version is perhaps one of the funniest, not least because it’s hard to imagine our friendly bearded fisherman as a hook-wielding psycho. And yet, there he is, complete with mad eyes and bloody poncho! Meanwhile the usual cheery backdrop has been swapped for the gloom of a dark night on the lake, lightning strikes and black clouds over head. The production is fun, but you’ll probably only appreciate it if you’ve played the original Big Bass game.
RTP and Variance
This comedy-horror version of the Big Bass slot comes with the standard 3 RTP rates – 96.04%, 95.09% and 94.09%. Which you play at will be at the discretion of your slot site operator who choose from the three rates when they make the game live. Obviously it’s better to play at the highest RTP where possible. I recommend MrQ from Lindar Media who consistently run slots at max RTP settings.
But wherever you play you can check the RTP for yourself by hitting the ‘I’ button under the reels then scrolling through the info screens until you see Game Rules. Scroll down that page to see Return to Player.
The variance in this game is 4/5 so it’s a volatile slot. All Big Bass games come in at 4/5 or 5/5 on Pragmatic Play’s variance ratings so expect an uneven win distribution but every now and then the free spins round can go off with plenty of cash collects, re-triggers and multipliers.
Maximum Win
The max payout is set to 2,100x which by today’s standards is not huge. It’s the same potential as we find in other Big Bass slots including the original. If you want better potential from Pragmatic Play then check out our list of their highest max win slots.
Symbols and Paytable
The slot format is 5 reels, 3 rows and 10 paylines and the paytable doesn’t spring any surprises. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols on a line from left to right starting at the left most reel.
There are 10 symbols in the table. They are the 5 cards – 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, valued at from 0.5x for 3 10s up to 10x for 5 Aces – and the 5 premiums – shoal of blood-soaked bass, tackle box with bloody handprint, raven, butchers hook and life ring, valued at from 1x for 3 fish up to 200x for 5 life rings.
There is a wild too, represented by our crazed-psycho fisherman. He appears during free spins to substitute for any pay symbol to complete a win line but does NOT have a pay value of his own.
Features and Gameplay
Features and gameplay are exactly as you find them in the original Big Bass Bonanza slot. It’s all about that free spins round and cash collects.
You’ll need 3 or more of the bass scatters to trigger the feature as follows:
- 3 scatters: 10 free spins
- 4 scatters: 15 free spins
- 5 scatters: 20 free spins
During the game, the fish symbols come with money values of 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 2,000x. For these to activate you need to land a fisherman wild at the same time during the free spins.
Additionally, every wild that lands is collected in a meter above the reels. And every 4th wild collected extends the round by 10 spins and progresses a global win multiplier to 2x for 4 wilds, 3x for 8 wilds, and finally 10x for 12 wilds. Once 12 have been collected, the meter is full and the round cannot be extended further.
And finally, there is one additional near miss feature. So, if you land ONE wild during free spins but fail to land any fish symbols on the same spin, randomly the game might decide to drop some fish onto random positions on the reels to trigger some wins. Nice!
Final Verdict
Seeing as its only in season for one day of the year, Pragmatic Play didn’t want to bother too much with adjusting the gameplay for Big Bass Halloween. And who can blame them? The original Big Bass Bonanza with its simple cash collect feature is still hugely popular and the production here is entertaining enough to carry the game anyway. That low max win could be problematic but in a slot series this big, it hardly seems to matter anyway.
