Theme and Design
It's Holiday Time For Your Favourite Fisherman
Bigger Bass Bonanza takes us away from the peaceful setting of the first game in the series to what looks more like a holiday resort at sunset, with twinkling night life lights visible on the shore, and waving palm trees too. Our hero, the friendly fisherman, is decked out in his Hawaiian shirt and shades, with a funky backing track adding to the holiday vibes. Other than that, its business as usual on the reels with the same submerged grid and fishing symbols in the paytable.
RTP and Variance
Bigger Bass Bonanza has THREE RTP rates – 96.71%, 95.67% and 94.62%. That top rate of 96.71% is very good, but some sites will run the games at the lower rates. I recommend playing at MrQ from Lindar Media who always chose the optimum RTP settings for Big Bass slots. But wherever you play you can find out which rate you are playing at by hitting the ‘I’ button under the reels then scrolling through the pages until you see ‘Game Rules’. Scroll down until you see Return to Player.
Like all other Big Bass slots this is a high variance game, so expect a volatile win distribution. It can be a tease before kicking out a stunning win sequence when you least expect it!
Maximum Win
The maximum win in Bigger Bass Bonanza is 4,000x, which is close to double what you find in the original (2,100x). These days those numbers don’t look so hot, but it you want to play another Big Bass game with greater potential you could try Day at the Races or Hold and Spinner, both of which max out at 10,000x.
Symbols and Paytable
In keeping with the ‘bigger’ title, this Big Bass games has a slightly extended configuration with 5-reels and now 4 rows each, giving you 12 lines to win on, rather than 10. Wins are triggered in the usual way by landing 3 or more identical symbols on a line from left to right starting at the left most reel.
There are 10 pay symbols. The low value ones are the cards, 10 through to Ace, valued at 0.5x for 3 10s up to 10x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the shoal of bass, the tackle box, the fly, the rod and reel and the boat. These are valued at from 1x for 3 shoals of bass up to 200x for 5 boats.
There is also a wild, represented by the friendly bearded bass fisherman, who only crops up in the free spins round where he will substitute for any pay symbols to complete a win.
Features and Gameplay
Like other Big Bass slots it really is ALL about hitting that free spins round. You’ll need to land 3 or more scatter symbols to get there. The scatter is represented by the leaping bass and spins are awarded as follows:
- 3 scatters: 10 free spins
- 4 scatters: 15 free spins
- 5 scatters: 20 free spins
Now, watch out for the bass symbols which carry money values of 2x, 5x, 10x, 15x, 20x, 25x, 50x or 4,000x. In order to unlock those prizes, wild symbols must land at the same time.
But that’s not all because each wild that lands is collected in a meter, and with every 4th wild that is collected, 10 more spins are added to your total and a win multiplier increases to 2x, then 3x, then 10x. Once 12 wilds have been collected, the round cannot extend further.
And, again as with other Big Bass games, there is a second chance feature too, so that if you land a wild but no fish, they may be randomly added at the end of your spin to trigger a cash collect payout.
Final Verdict
Pragmatic Play topped up the max win, added a few paylines and sent our man off on holidays for the second in the Big Bass series. At the time that was enough to keep us happy, but things have moved on a bit since then with more features and many different backdrops. So why would you go back in time and play this version? I guess the simpler gameplay is one reason, and those jolly holiday vibes of course!
