About This Slot
Following on from their zombie-themed slot, Rotten, Hacksaw Gaming are back in the horror genre with Bloodthirst. This is a simpler game than Rotten, or indeed other high variance slots from Hacksaw like the epic Hand of Anubis. Instead, Bloodthirst is a simple affair in which your goal is to land expander monster symbols and hopefully fill the entire screen with one type – a Monster Takeover powering 10,000x wins!

Theme and Design
Bloodthirst takes inspiration from many classic horror narratives – the setting looks like a Transylvanian mountain side draped in mist, thick forest and a towering castle in the background, all lit up by the moon. Dramatic orchestral music provides the score. The monsters on the reels are a frightening-looking bunch of vampires, ghouls, werewolves and demons and they really come to life when they appeared fully expanded in short animations.
There is nothing too original in the theme or designs, but the atmosphere is good and Bloodthirst holds its own against other popular horror slots.

RTP, Variance and Top Payout
In the UK, casinos offer Bloodthirst at an RTP of 94.23%. We verified this at Casumo, a trusted and licensed UK site and you can see this in the screenshot below. Hacksaw is one of those developers whose slots have variable RTP settings. Which you play at will depend on the country you are in. Every Hacksaw game we play at the UK always plays at around 94% mark.

Bloodthirst RTP verified at Casumo
In keeping with its dark and deadly theme, Bloodthirst is a highly volatile game. So expect some grinding sessions with little return alternating with high payout bursts of energy – it could go either way, though more often the former. The top win is 10,000x, standard for high-risk slots from Hacksaw. You’ll find similar in games like Hand of Anubis and Itero.
Symbols and Graphics
Bloodthirst plays out on a 5 reel and 4 row grid with just 10 active paylines in play at all times. You need 3 or more matching symbols on the reels from left to right across a line to trigger a win.
Low paying symbols come in the form of cards, 10 through to Ace, carved into granite tiles. They are ALL worth the same, from 0.1x for three of a kind up to 1x for five of a kind. The premiums are the demon vampires in blue, red, yellow and green. The green and yellow are valued at 1.5x for three up to 6x for five. The blue and red are valued at 2x for three up to 10x for five.
There is also a Wild which substitutes for all other symbols to complete winlines and also pays out for five on a line – 20x.
There is also a Free Spins scatter which unlocks one of the two free spins rounds if 3 or 4 land at the same time on the reels.

Gameplay and Features
Monster Reels and Monster Takeovers
When you start to play Bloodthirst you will come to see that success in this game is built on the Monster Reels feature in both base games and Free Spins rounds and you will be looking for stacks of 4 premium monsters landing at the same time. When this happens, after pay outs from the current spin are paid, the stacks expand to form a Monster Reel and pay out AGAIN as follows:
- Green ghoul monsters pay out 5x
- Yellow vampire monsters pay out 10x
- Red werewolf monsters pay out 15x
- Blue demon monsters pay out 20x
It is possible to land five of these Monster Reels at the same time. When this happens, no payline or Monster Reel prize are paid but instead a Monster Takeover payout is triggered:
- Green ghoul takeover pays out 100x
- Yellow vampire takeover pays out 250x
- Red werewolf takeover pays out 1000x
- Blue demon takeover pays out 2500x
Bloodthirst and Immortal Free Spins
The basic Free Spins round, triggered by landing three FS symbols, is Bloodthirst. You get 10 spins and it’s no different to the base game but the odds of hitting Monster Reels are enhanced.
The Immortals Free Spins round is a bit more interesting.
You’ll need FOUR FS symbols to trigger this one. Again, you have 10 spins. At the start of the round, ONE monster is chosen as the special one for your spins and ONLY they can expand and form a Monster Reel. However, each time they land on a reel, not only do they create a Monster Reel but they also activate that reel. On EVERY spin thereafter, that reel will turn into a Monster Reel and give you a GUARANTEED win.
There is also an UPGRADE symbol – a potion bottle. This will upgrade the special monster to the next one up in the paytable – green becomes yellow, yellow becomes red, red becomes blue. This goes for the indicators above each reel too.
Boom or Bust? What Happened When We Played Bloodthirst
In a 30-minute session played with real money bets at Casumo, Bloodthirst gave us a real taste of what it can offer. The base game is very straight forward but there were enough Monster Reels to keep things interesting whilst waiting for Free Spins to trigger. Monster Reels were mainly ghouls and vampires, then the occasional werewolf, but never a 20x demon.
We unlocked free spins three times – twice with 3 FS symbols to give us the Bloodthirst bonus round and once with 4 FS symbols to unlock Immortal bonus round. The latter was the best, giving us a 133x win in total, and it’s easy to see how landing werewolves of demons in stacks early on could create a big result. As soon as you have one or two in play, with GUARANTEED wins on each spin, the payouts start stacking up. It’s a bit disappointing not to have the opportunity to re-trigger or add more spins, but it’s a fun bonus round nonethess.

Our Verdict
Bloodthirst is another ferocious slot from Hacksaw with a high volatility. But the game’s simple format and feature list make it a easier play that slots like Hand of Anubis for example. There is no complex interaction of multipliers and free spins to confound the player here, instead, full focus is on landing 4 high stacks of the high paying monsters on any spin in base game and bonus round. If you get that far, of course Bloodthirst has the potential to kick out sizable wins in thrilling sequences.
