Theme and Design
Atmospheric Deep Sea Shenanigans With Undead Pirates!
Blue Fortune is set underwater with an eerie atmosphere. A sunken pirate ship is just visible through the murky water, and heinous sailors appear on the reels as the ghoulish undead returning to protect long-lost riches. The eyes of the crew have no pupils, which gives them a zombie-like quality and a long-tentacled octopus grabs at symbols throughout the game for added fear-factor. But whilst it could feel macabre hanging out with a group of zombie bandits at the bottom of the sea, the cartoon images and twinkling sound effects at least lighten the mood. Overall, a nice production from a studio known for their strong creative team.
RTP and Variance
Blue Fortune has a good RTP of 96.57% which is above average and promises a good return on your wagering. This is also one of Quickspin’s volatile releases so don’t expect it to be too forgiving – payouts are generally choppy, as I found out when I tested the game – but it has the potential to kick out some substantial ones in the bonus round if you are lucky enough to unlock it.

Respins with Locked Symbols
This is the headline act in the base game.
Whenever you hit a winning spin, the tentacles of an octopus appear to wrap around the winning symbols and lock them into place for a Respin. If you land more of the same symbols to complete or extend paylines on the respin then those lock in place too. This continue until either no more winning symbols land OR you fill the whole screen with the same symbol.
During testing of this game I noticed that the exciting part about this feature is that the wins are calculated after EVERY re-spin. So, your original win line effectively pays out after each re-spin to create a snowballing cumulative overall win!
10 Free Spins With Only Premium Symbols
To unlock the high-paying free spins round you’ll need to collect 3 Treasure Chest scatters with the word ‘BONUS” emblazoned across them. When they land you’ll see a meter at the side of the reels charge up. The meter will continue to fill whilst the same game round is in progress, including re-spins.
Collect 3 scatters and you get a nice 10 free plays where ONLY premium pirate symbols are on the reels. Before the round begins the screen changes and you are now above the water looking down on floating barrels and planks of wood.
Not only is the paytable much enhanced but you can also trigger Respins during the Free Spins. So your chances of landing big wins are much better.
Final Verdict
Blue Fortune is a basic slot that is carried by its nicely executed production and fun re-spins feature. Despite its high variance it still kicked out enough wins and re-spins to make it an engaging game to play, and overall I felt there was a nice balance between risk and reward, the re-spins showing up enough times to keep me invested in the action on screen. The max win feels very underwhelming but it’s still easy to see how you could trigger some impressive payouts in the free spins round where only premiums are in play. If you are lucky enough to get there of course! So, if pirate slots are your thing, I recommend you make some time to give this one a try.

This was a longer session than most slots give you for 200 spins. The reason for that is the extended sequence that is triggered whenever you land a win. Re-spins take a while to play out, particularly if you get on a few consecutive ones, so there was over 21 minutes of gameplay to enjoy. Which is good.
That included 28 wins (a 14% hit rate), each of which triggered at least one re-spin of course. The best of these was early on, where I came 3 places short of filling the screen with the purple skull, triggering a 17.9x payout. It's exciting when these runs happen and the music builds nicely at the same time. However, it was noticeably rare to land a re-spins sequence with one of the premium symbols, though to be fair that is expected.
I was unable to trigger the free spins round. I came close once with two scatters on the meter but never landed the third.
Overall, though my balance took a hit over the course of those 200 spins, the playing experience was good thanks to those extended re-spins and the quality of the production.
