Cash Box play out against the backdrop of a stage setting with purple spotlights with a low key jazz soundtrack to keep you company. It does crank up a notch in the free spins round when a guitar sound is added to the mix but generally it’s pretty smooth going. Meanwhile, the reel set center stage shows rows of lock boxes in a 5×3 formation. When they land the wheels on the front of some will turn and the boxes will open to reveal their symbols. The sounds of the reels rattling along is quite satisfying and though it’s not complex, just simple straight forward gambling fun, if that’s your thing, it works.

There are 5 reels and 3 rows in play at all times in Cash Box and after each spin, the boxes open to reveal their symbol. The game doesn’t use paylines but more like a scratch card requires you to simply reveal 3 or more matching symbols anywhere on the grid when the boxes open.

The Final Verdict

Cash Box is a very simple game with no frills. If you are looking for a feature-packed high variance slot with a twisted theme and narrative then you should look elsewhere. Instead, this is a classic gambling experience, much like an old skool one-armed bandit. Just spin those reels and wait for the boxes to open to reveal your prize. It will lure you in for a time and if you score a few wins it can be fun, but the thrill can also wear off pretty quickly. It felt like the game was missing something and could be improved with a higher maximum win and the addition of some multiplier action.

I was lucky enough to open up the free spins round where things become more entertaining, particularly with a re-trigger for an additional 10 spins. But without the sophisticated features of modern slots, the fun in games like this is short-lived.
