Eye of Cleopatra is a high variance, 5 reel slot with an Ancient Egyptian theme and 40 active paylines from Pragmatic Play. There is one simple feature in the gameplay. A magical ‘Eye’ that sits to the right of the reel with 8 lights around it. When they light up, the pattern is transposed to the reel set with Wilds appearing where the lights would be. It’s an intriguing and unusual concept. There is also a free spins round where 3, 4 or 5 scatters earns you 24 free spins with as many 8 lights guaranteed on each spin. Eye of Cleopatra is a nice looking game but it doesn’t really break any new ground with it’s design style. The Ancient Egypt slot is one of the most well-worn paths in game development and Pragmatic Play do not look like they set out to do anything new. The backdrop is a standard temple and palm tree scene, with the reel set dominating the screen with the usual mix of Pharaoh’s, Queen Cleopatra, scarabs and hieroglyphs. What is intriguing is the Eye of Cleopatra shape to the right of the reels which lights up and gifts Wilds into the game. It’s a cool feature and the visual execution at least brings something different to the visuals. We will explain more about that in the features part of this slot review.

Eye of Cleopatra has a traditional set up of 5 reels and 4 rows. This game has 40 active paylines on each spin and wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols across a line from left to right.

Symbol values are not particularly big in the paytable and hitting big wins will required the help of random wilds triggered by the main feature.

The lower paying icons are represented by the cards A through to Jack and pay out between 0.25x and 1x for up to five on a line. Various Egyptian-themed icons represent the premium symbols including Snakes, Cats, Birds, Pharaohs and the Queen herself who pays out the most at 10x for five on a payline. Note the Queen also comes at full reel height which can be useful too.

Look out as well for the Wild which subs in for all other icons to form winlines, except for the scatter, and the Scatter itself that is needed to trigger wins. Five Wilds will also pay 10x when they land on a payline.

Whilst I found Eye of Cleopatra to be lacking in features, the one it does have is quite ingenious and kept me glued to the reels whilst I watched for good patterns of Wilds to land on the grid.

Random Wild Pattern Triggered by The ‘Eye’

The Random Wild features throughout base game and bonus round. To the right of the reels sits a magic ‘Eye’ around which 8 little lights appear. With each spin, any number of lights may randomly turn on.

The pattern created when they do is transposed to the reels where the eye in the middle is any wild and the position of the blue lights around it are positions on the reels adjacent to the wild.

The free spins round here has a cool configuration and you will enjoy it if you like being given options on how to play it. I do, so this made it more interesting for me. The options are like this:

The Final Verdict

While the ancient Egyptian theme is not uncommon, Pragmatic Play’s Eye of Cleopatra slot has enough of its own style to make it worth a spin. The Random Wild Pattern is a cool way to unleash lots of extra wilds onto the reels in one action and can certainly turn a low-paying spin into something much more valuable. It also does this in a unique and compelling way. The fact that this is spun into the free spins round too also makes the bonus round more intriguing. We suggest you have a play around with the different configurations of free spins and blue lights to work out what is best for you. Something like 24 spins with six light patterns seems like a good middle ground.

Having said all that there are certain aspects of this game that some high risk fans might find underwhelming. It has none of the complicated features of a big No Limit City release, and its 4,000x top payout is lower than most rivals these days. But keep in mind the better odds of hitting that win which might swing things for you.

Overall, we recommend a few spins on this game – at the very least the sharp and arresting visuals and the soothing soundtrack are enough to take you in and the original wild feature adds jeopardy to what would otherwise be very generic gameplay.
