About This Slot
Pragmatic Play is a game developer who has recently been chanelling the spirit of the more traditional slot themes with games like Clover Gold (Irish Luck) and Gates of Valhalla (Norse Gods) so it’s no surprise to find them delving into Ancient Egyptian history and more specifically, the mythology of Queen Cleopatra for their latest release. This is of course a very well-worn path to glory for any slot provider and requires a significant degree of originality in features and gameplay to raise it above the competition. So, we ask, have Pragmatic got what it takes?
Well, load up Eye of Cleopatra and you’ll find a slot that has found at least an original way to unlock what are generic features – namely Wilds and Free Spins. A clever Random Wild Patterns ‘Eye’ feature which is also integrated with four different free spins bonus round options.
It all takes place on a graphically striking five reel and four row reelset with 40 active paylines in play at all times and blue skies and temples in the background. Keep reading to find out in more detail how to play and win at Eye of Cleopatra.
This slot is due for release at our recommended UK slot sites from April 18th 2022.
RTP, Variance and Top Payout
Like many of Pragmatic Play’s best slots, Eye of Cleopatra plays out on a high variance maths model, so wins may be infrequent, but the pay frequency can suddenly change and a short burst of wins can follow long spells with little or no return. Note that this makes the slot a risky game and those who prefer more even win distributions may want to look elsewhere.
The Return to Player (RTP) is set at 96.5% which is a little above average for an online slot whilst the top payout is set at 4,000x. This isn’t bad though it is very small in comparison to recent hits from high variance specialist like No Limit City or Big Time Gaming. It’s worth noting though that the probability of hitting that max win is just 1 in 238,095 which is significantly better than the odds of hitting the jackpot in a game like Tombstone RIP for example.
Symbols and Graphics
Eye of Cleopatra has a rich design with sandy backdrops, sandstone temple pillars, swaying palm trees and pale blue skies. It’s an escapist scene for sure and sets the tone for game that takes you out of yourself as you spin the reels.
Wins are triggered here by landing a minimum of three of the same icons on paylines across adjacent reels, starting from the leftmost reels to those on the right. The lower paying icons are represented by the cards A through to Jack and pay out between 0.25x and 1x for up to five on a line. Various Egyptian-themed icons represent the premium sybmols including Snakes, Cats, Birds, Pharaohs and the Queen herself who pays out the most at 10x for five on a payline.
Look out as well for the Wild which subs in for all other icons to form winlines, except for the scatter, and the Scatter itself that is needed to trigger wins. Five Wilds will also pay 10x when they land on a payline.

Gameplay and Features
Eye of Cleopatra is not packed with features but the Wilds and Free Spins are quite compelling and an Ante Bet feature is useful to increase your odds of triggering the bonus round if you are feeling impatient. Here is how they work:
- The RANDOM WILD PATTERN comes first. Watch out for the EYE configuration to the right of the reels which is the key to setting off Wild patters on the reels. The eye is surrounded by EIGHT blue lights.
- Any number of the lights may turn on at any time. At this point, think of the eye in the middle as any wild on the reels and the position of the blue lights as positions on the reels adjacent to the wilds. ALL symbols in equivalent positions to the blue lights NOW TURN WILD.
- The FREE SPINS ROUND also integrates random wilds. You get to choose which option you want to take here and you’ll need 3, 4 or 5 SCATTERS to land to trigger.
- The first is 10, 20 or 30 Free Spins with 4 LIGHT PATTERNS
- The second is 8, 16 or 24 Free Spins with 6 LIGHT PATTERNS
- The third is 6, 12 or 18 Free Spins with 8 LIGHT PATTERNS
- A fourth option is a random configuration from all of the above.
NOTE: in each case the number of free spins is dependent on 3, 4 or 5 scatters.
Finally, there is also an Ante Bet option with which a 25% increase in your stake size gives you twice the chance of triggering free spins.
While the ancient Egyptian theme is not uncommon, Pragmatic Play’s Eye of Cleopatra slot has enough of its own style to make it worth a spin. The Random Wild Pattern is a cool way to unleash lots of extra wilds onto the reels in one action and can certainly turn a low-paying spin into something much more valuable. It also does this in a unique and compelling way. The fact that this is spun into the free spins round too also makes the bonus round more intriguing. We suggest you have a play around with the different configurations of free spins and blue lights to work out what is best for you. Something like 24 spins with six light patterns seems like a good middle ground.
Having said all that there are certain aspects of this game that some high risk fans might find underwhelming. It has none of the complicated features of a big No Limit City release, and its 4,000x top payout is lower than most rivals these days. But keep in mind the better odds of hitting that win which might swing things for you.
Overall, we recommend a few spins on this game – at the very least the sharp and arresting visuals and the soothing soundtrack are enough to take you in and the original wild feature adds jeopardy to what would otherwise be very generic gameplay.
Good luck and have fun!
