Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Splash follows the same format as pretty much all of the games in the Fishin’ Frenzy series. It’s a beloved cartoon style that many players never tire of, so perhaps there’s no need to really shake things up. With that said, literally nothing has changed about this theme from previous versions, even the payline indicators remain. If you’re looking for a series that shakes things up a bit more regularly then Big Bass Bonanza from Pragmatic Play is another great fishing series with slightly more varied designs.

RTP and Variance

Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Splash has an RTP of 95%, however, at some sites you’ll find the adjusted 93%. Make sure to check before you start spinning as this is a sizeable difference. It also has medium variance, meaning you’ll see a mixture of big and small wins. If a higher RTP is important to you then there are other options in the series, including the original Fishin Frenzy and Fishin’ Frenzy Megaways.

Symbols and Paytable

Played on 5 reels and 3 rows, Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Splash has 10 fixed paylines, indicated by the numbers on either side of the reels. You can hover over these numbers to see exactly where the paylines are. With the exception of the Pelican symbol which pays out with just two matching symbols, you’ll need at least three symbols to make a win.

There are 9 pay symbols in this game, as well as a scatter and a wild. The low value symbols are the cards: 10, J, K, Q, A. These pay from 5x to 10x the bet for 5 symbols. The premium symbols are the bait box, lifebuoy, fishing rod, blue fish, and the pelican. These pay anywhere from 20x to 200x your bet for 5x matching symbols.

The aforementioned blue fish come in seven different sizes - 2x, 5x, 10x, 50x, 150x, 200x, 250x or 500x. They pay out exactly the same in the base game, but their payout changes in accordance with the fish size during the free spins game. 

The scatter symbol triggers the free spins round when three are landed. The wild symbol only appears in the free spins game which we’ll cover in detail below.

Features and Gameplay

Fishin’ Frenzy The Big Splash introduces a brand new feature to this famous series, as well as relying on some old favourites. Let’s have a look at them all!

Scatter Symbol

The fishing boat symbol is the scatter symbol. It’s sole function is to begin the free spins round. You need to land 3, 4, or 5 scatters to start the free spins with 10, 15 or 20 free spins respectively. You cannot land the scatter symbol whilst in the free spins round. 

Pick a Fish

Just before the free spins round begins, you’ll enter the Pick a Fish feature where you must click on a fish which reveals the free spins upgrade that you win for the upcoming free spins round. The following upgrades are available:

• +Fish: more fish are added to the reels
• +Fisherman: more fishermen are added to the reels
• +Collect: the cash values can be collected multiple times
• +Games: you’re given extra free spins
• Re-Spin: all non-cash and non-fisherman symbols spin again. They keep spinning until the win isn’t improved further.
• Cash Tag: A cash tag is added to one of the premium symbols

Free Spins

One of the attributes that makes Fishin’ Frenzy so popular is the clever cash collect mechanic in the free spins round, and it shows up again in this version. 

Firstly, once the free spins round is triggered, the fisherman becomes active. As a Wild symbols he substitutes for any pay symbol to complete a win AND pays out at 0.5x, 5x, 20x or 200x for 2, 3, 4 or 5 on a line. But most importantly, if you land a fisherman wild on the reels at the same time as fish symbols, then it collects all of the fish (along with their cash values). The fish are worth between 2x and 50x your bet. 

And now there is an enhancement to free spins in the form of the trail that appears above the reels. Each time you land a fisherman, it is collected and one more position on the trail lights up. If you collect 2, 6, or 8 fishermen then you get awarded another pick from the Pick a Fish feature. If you collect 4, 8, or 12 fishermen then you get 10 free spins each time, AND a multiplier of 2x, 3x or 4x respectively. 

The trail feature with its progressive multiplier is a powerful addition to the Fishin' Frenzy free spins round and good reason to have a spin on this slot - it means you can seriously boost your wins if you get far enough along.
