Hand of Midas 2
By Pragmatic Play
Hand of Midas 2 is an Ancient Greek slot based on the legend of King Midas, built by Pragmatic Play. There are multiplier wilds of up to 10x in the base game. But it’s the free spins round that promises the best returns. Here, all multiplier wilds are sticky and the round can be extended unlimited times by landing 2 more scatters again and again. Multipliers are collected as a progressive total and applied to all wins throughout the feature.
The max payout is 8,000x and spins start at 20p.

Theme and Design
Richly Illustrated With Plenty of Atmosphere
Pragmatic Play are invoking the legend of Midas again, the king who wanted everything he touched to turn to gold. There are strong similarities in gameplay between this version and the original Hand of Midas and that is reflected in the design too. We are in the same underwater setting, with a crumbling stone temple providing the framework to the reels. A giant hand sits to the right of the screen, holding a multiplier value that will be applied to all wins. It’s all backed by an epic soundtrack.

RTP and Variance
Hand of Midas has 3 RTP rates – 96.07%, 95.06% or 94.06%. It is at your casino operator’s discretion to choose which setting to run the game on. To be honest, there is little to choose between those but it’s always better to play at the highest rate when possible. Wherever you play you can check the RTP on the game info screen by hitting the ‘I’ button under the reels and scrolling through til you see the volatility rating screen. Scroll down and RTP is below that.
My advice would be to play at MrQ from Lindar Media where RTP rates are consistently at the optimum level.
Just like the original Hand of Midas the volatility in this game is high, so don’t expect an easy ride. The win distribution will be uneven and you should set your stake to absorb those tough runs whilst waiting for the big wins to drop.
Maximum Win
For this sequel the max win has been cranked up a little bit to 8,000x from 5,000x. That’s still not huge, but its more in line with what we expect from Pragmatic Play’s high variance slots. If you want better potential from the same slot provider then check out our list of their highest max win games.
Symbols and Paytable
This is a simple game with 5 reels, 3 rows and 20 paylines. You’ll need to land 3 or more identical symbols from left to right across a line, starting at the left most reel, to trigger a win.

There are no less than 11 symbols in the table. The low value ones are the cards - 10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace, valued at from 0.1x for 3 10s up to 2.5x for 5 Aces. The premiums are the pictures – cup, fruit bowl, treasure chest, gold lady, and the two king symbols. These are valued at from 0.5x for 3 cups up to 20x for 5 kings.
There is also a wild that appear only on reels 2, 3 and 4. It substitutes for any pay symbol to complete a payline but it has NO pay value of its own.
Features and Gameplay
If you’ve played the first Hand of Midas game then you will be on familiar ground here. It’s all about multiplier wilds and free spins. Here is how it works.
Multiplier Wilds Of Up To 10x
When wilds land they MAY carry a multiplier of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x to be applied to the TOTAL win from a spin. Where more than one wild multiplier is included in a win, then the two values are ADDED together before the win calculation is made.
Just like in the first game, the total multiplier value for the current spin is displayed in a giant hand to the right of the reels.

Free Spins With Sticky Wild Multipliers
The main event is the free spins round which is triggered by landing 3 or more gold hand scatters on reels 1, 3 and 5. As well as triggering free spins that will get you a win of 2x.
Before the round starts a series of mini reels appears on the screen – one reel for each scatter that triggered the round. Each reel can display values of 1, 2 of 3 after they spin. The total number from all reels is added up and that is your number of free spins.
Now, as in the base game wilds that land MAY have multiplier values of 2x, 3x, 5x or 10x. These values are collected and displayed in the hand to the right of the reels. BUT … the difference now is that those multiplier wilds are STICKY so they remain on the reels to trigger more wins, each of which has the multiplier value applied to them.
And … if you land 2 or more scatters on reels 1 and 5 during free spins, the round is extended. For each scatter another mini reel appears and spins to reveal a value of 1, 2 or 3. All values are added and that number of spins is added to the total for the round.
You can keep extending the round with no limits.
Final Verdict
This game has lots going for it if you are a high variance fan. Those combinations of progressive multipliers from sticky wilds with unlimited free spins can be incredibly powerful and bring up huge wins provided you have the bankroll and patience for the chase.
And there are enough tweaks to the configuration to make it worth a try for fans of the original too. For example, the max win is higher – though still short of where you might want it to be – and the multipliers now go up as high as 10x rather than just 3x. So, despite the poor returns in our test session I will definitely be coming back to this one to have another crack at the big time.
Testing Notes
I played 250 spins on Hand of Midas 2 on Pragmatic Play’s test server prior to release to test the game. This is what happened.
- Stake Size: 1
- Start balance: 100,000
- End balance: 99,859.85
- Hit Rate: 23.2% (58 winning spins in 250)
- Biggest Win: 12x
- Free Spins Round: 0
This played like a truly volatile slot, tight as hell for 250 spins and no sign of the free spins round. There were plenty of small wild multiplier wins, all in the 1x to 10x range, with just one 13.5x from a 9x multiplier (a 1x, 5x and 3x) shown in this screenshot. But nothing of any significance. As a result the balance took a battering, despite a 23.2% win rate. In spite of all that, the atmosphere, driven by the sound and visuals, is really good. There is plenty of drama when multipliers are fired like arrows into the giant Midas hand at the start of a payout and overall it’s a fun play. It just wasn’t a lucky day for me.
