If you like the pure gambling experience with one simple feature, rinse and repeat, with super high variance and a totally candy land theme then you’re in the right place. It’s all about getting lucky with consecutive wins and watching your multiplier grow with each one (plus an extra wild on the grid each time too).

Jellyicious DoubleMax Big Win — A 40.3x win from a 32x multiplier

My biggest win of 40.3x came with a 32x multiplier (that’s 5 wins in a row). Not surprisingly most times the multiplier doesn’t get higher than 2x. But that’s all part of the fun. And needless to say in 100 spins I didn’t crack the free spins round. I expect it would take much, much longer.

Yggdrasil are famous for their impressive graphics, so I perhaps had an unfair expectation of them before starting up this slot. However, Jellycious DoubleMax falls a little flat in terms of a candyland filled with wonder and fantasy. Sure, it’s pink, the symbols are all on-theme and neatly illustrated, the castle in the background is pink too. It ticks the boxes, but it doesn’t go much further than that.

For a smaller or newer developer, it would score well. It looks like a candy-themed slot game, it’s crisp and clean, but from Yggdrasil, I can’t help but feel like we deserve something a little more exciting.

Perhaps the biggest category where Jellycious DoubleMax falls down is this one. Its default RTP is 94% though there is also a 90.05% version as if 94% wasn’t bad enough. As well as this, the volatility is rated as not just high, but super high. So, any hopes of ticking through your bankroll slowly are gone. This slot has big swings, and a pretty poor RTP to match. Sure, the top prize is more than worth shooting for, but for those on a smaller bankroll, this combination stings a little.

Playing slots with the DoubleMax mechanic is always exciting, but Jellycious has a couple of other interesting features too. Let’s take a look at how they work.

Dropdown Wins & Multiplier

Every time you form a win, those symbols are removed from the reels and in the empty positions left behind one wild symbol is placed. Then, the remaining spaces are filled by other symbols. If a win is made then the dropdown mechanic kicks in again until no new wins are made. Every win doubles the win multiplier (applied to all wins). It begins at 1x and increases accordingly on every new spin in the main game. Once no more wins are formed, it returns to 1x.

Note: In the free spins round, wilds can only be added to the first three reels.

If you land 3, 4, or 5 scatters then you start the free spins round with 7, 9, or 11 spins respectively. The free spins will only start once the drop down sequence has finished. The Final Verdict

It’s great to see Yggdrasil releasing another slot with the brilliant DoubleMax mechanic. If you manage to reach a few turns on the free spins round then you’ll quickly see why it’s so powerful. Doubling the win multiplier every time very swiftly leads to big wins. The Drop Down wins work well too, offering a bit more bang for your buck.

However, that RTP is sub-par and the super high volatility should put off players on a bit of a tighter budget. This, coupled with the slightly lacklustre theme means that Jellycious DoubleMax is a pretty average slot. It’s fun, it’s fair, it’s clean, crisp, and modern, with a big max win, but compared to the other giants that are churning out top notch slots, it can’t quite compete.
