Normally I would play 200 spins to test a game, but in chasing down the free spins round I kept going to 500 … and still didn’t trigger it. Push Gaming are notorious for producing high volatility games that behave like this but even so, you would at least expect 1 hit in 500 spins.

Meanwhile, the Turner Symbol landed just 22 times. On 13 of those occasions nothing happened as the disc grooves didn’t alight. So, from 22 tries, the Bouncing Mystery Feature triggered on just 9 occasions. Wins from that feature were not spectacular – the highest was a 37.5x, and others were between 1.7x and 8.2x.

In fact, the biggest win of all came from a base game spin where 10 of the super high value symbols landed on reels 1, 2 and 3.

It took over 35 minutes to complete 500 spins which is quick too, reflecting the high number of dead spins which produce no win or feature.

But, despite the scarcity of features this was still an entertaining slot. Push are the masters of keeping you engaged even when the reels aren’t landing for you, and the quality production, and tantalising prospect of what might happen when free spins do eventually trigger, kept me interested.

An A-Grade Slot Production From A High Class Studio

Land of Zenith bears all the hallmarks of a Push Gaming production. The artistic style will be recognisable to anyone who has played this studio’s games before, although the steam punk direction with its mix of Victorian and sci-fi ideas is something new. The action takes place in an airship flying high in the clouds amongst space-age style buildings, backed by a warm, orchestral soundtrack with an uplifting, optimistic feel about it. As with other Push slots like Big Bamboo, there is a zen-like quality to the production that is at odds with the super-high variance.

As well as having superb illustrative designs, the animations are as slick as ever, particularly the disc mechanism that unlocks the 2 features by spinning and whirring intermittently. In terms of theme and design, this is as compelling as anything Push Gaming have produced to date.

Land of Zenith has 6 reels and 4 rows and 30 paylines. Wins are triggered by landing 3 or more identical symbols from left to right on any payline.

One thing I immediately noticed when looking at the paytable here is that there is very good value, particularly at the top end. And in an unusual twist, there are four different levels of symbols – low, mid, high and super-high.

The low value symbols are the gem-like Moon, Planet, Star and Sun icons, valued at from 0.2x for 3 moons up to 10x for 6 suns. The mid value symbols are the Data Slates, Butterflies, Robot Owls, valued at from 1x for 3 data slates up to 35x for 6 owls. The high value symbols are the 3 characters, the Victorian man in bowler hat, the lady and the zenith captain in googles. These are valued at from 2x for 3 of the Victorian man up to 100x for 6 of the captain.

And right at the top, the super high value symbol is a character somewhat reminiscent of the Wizard of Oz, awarding 7.5x for 3, 25x for 4, 75x for 5 and a massive 200x for 6 on a payline.

In addition to these symbols you also have a Wild Crest that steps in to substitute for all regular symbols to form winning lines. Interestingly, these carry the same pay value as the super high value symbol, up to 200x for 6 on a line as well.

Land of Zenith has few features, and aside from the Wild symbol, its all about activating either Bouncing Mystery or Hypermode Free Spins. This can only be done through the ingenious Disc Mechanism.

Align Grooves in the Disc To Unlock Bonuses

You’ll notice the Disc Mechanism to the left of the reels. This consists of 3 concentric discs with grooves in them. When a Turner symbol lands on the reels, it triggers one of the concentric discs to spin one place clockwise or anti clockwise. Turners land on reels 2, 4 or 6 to turn either the outer, middle or inner disc clockwise or anti clockwise.

Aligning the grooves on all 3 discs triggers one of two bonus features.

The Bouncing Mystery Feature Leaves Mystery Symbols on the Reels

If you align three grooves after a normal spin, the Bouncing Mystery is unlocked. For this a glowing orb is launched onto the reels. It bounces around, hitting the edges. As it does it leaves Mystery Symbols in its wake and splits into further orbs causing more mystery symbols. Eventually the orbs all disappear.

In the background the reels are spinning and eventually they stop and all the mystery symbols created reveal ONE symbol before a win is paid out.

The Hypermode Free Spins Round

If the Disc Mechanism flashes gold before the grooves align, you get Hypermode Free Spins instead.

Now, instead of the standard free spins with a fixed number, instead you get a 20 second countdown where free spins keep playing til the clock gets to zero.

BUT the cool part is this … landing Wilds increases the speed of the spins AND adds 10 seconds back onto your total AND removes low value symbols from the reels. So you are getting more spins with and enhanced paytable.

And .. there is no limit to re-triggers so you can just keep going at faster rates with more time added!

The Final Verdict

Land of Zenith is a classic Push Gaming slot with superb production and an ingenious mechanism for unlocking its two features. The game’s volatility is challenging, but whilst it can be a tight play, this is offset by high values at the mid to top of the paytable which can produce good wins even without triggering a feature. Perhaps the best part is the free spins thanks to its unique configuration that suggests real thrills as the clock counts down and you wait for more wilds to land to re-set and keep the round going to hit that 21,003x top win.
